I really related to Alex when he said he ‘knew’ something wasn’t right with his previous diagnoses as I was diagnosed 12 years ago as having ‘cyclothymia’ & I felt it never ‘fit’ with me completely. ADHD made perfect sense to explain all my symptoms & behaviours so getting diagnosed with ADHD has been such a relief to finally know what’s been ‘wrong’ with me my whole life.

I am a 31yo currently awaiting assessment for ADHD and for months now I have been looking for a podcast or channel that speaks to me in ways I can engage with and understand. I've found it here 100%. Not just the knowledge you guys have but the way you deliver it in a way that us undiagnosed, confused folks can understand is such a help. Thank you guys, I hope you realise the good you are doing

Alex, 1:04: "It isn't a deficit of attention, firstly, it's an inability to focus our attention, we have as much focus as anybody." James, 1:05: ...distracted by his phone. I just discovered you guys and at episode 13 on Spotify. Looking at all the greyscale in your facial fur and creeping hairlines, and my own lack of aging, I'm still going to assume we fall in the same age group. So it's very nice to listen to men sharing their experiences with and dealing with ADHD in their 30/40...50's? It's such a nice feeling to connect to your postcasts while being just over yonder, beyond the canal. So thank you!

Massively appreciate your honesty and information. I am 44 currently waiting for a diagnosis assessment with Psychiatry UK . I have been diagnosed with many psychiatric diagnoses including personality disorder . I’ve been addicted to alcohol and drugs , been clean for 15yrs now. I’ve done lots of psychotherapy and my life is relatively stable now , but I can’t seem to progress with employment , been sacked , left jobs , had failed self employment. Definitely think I have I have undiagnosed adhd . I’m at the stage of considering my next employment, so think medication will help .

Wow. I'm a 42 year old Dyslexic that always just blamed the Dyslexia (and being a bit Sh**) for all the unnecessary friction and disorganisation in my life. I cant believe it, the more I hear about ADHD/ADD symptoms the more boxes I tick. I think I have been searching all my life.

@@theadhdadults I wanted to ask a question but ran out of time: What's your view on Aspartame and the effect on adhd/asd? I've noticed radically different behaviour when drinking aspartame-containing drinks, now avoid them and stick to either full-fat sugar one or stevia sweetener
@theadhdadults
@theadhdadults Год назад
@@sorearm there has been a systematic review of the current evidence which didn’t support aspartame elimination as being effective but there are other ‘healthier’ options like stevia, xylitol or isomaltulose which might in general be better than aspartame

That would be amazing if we could just do a saliva swab for dx. I am an orphan and it was difficult getting the external evidence for support needed with my late dx. It helped me that my daughter had already been diagnosed.

I’m loving listening to each of the topics you talk about because I resonate with all of them! Honestly it’s like a light bulb moment. It can be so overwhelming over thinking sometimes but it’s so reassuring to hear other people who think the same as you. I’m not sure if you both have been genetically tested as I used a website as I was using it to make my family tree and found that I had the MTHFR gene and I started taking supplements and it’s made such a major difference. I think it was only £50 and iso worth it
@theadhdadults
@theadhdadults 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing! ADHD is usually polygenic, meaning a combination of gene mutations contribute to ADHD risk. The most common are dopamine transporters. Neither of us have specifically looked for any genetic markers but I did a commercial gene test and none of my polymorphisms were identified as being ADHD related

Want to shout out for older women whose perimenopausal/menopausal symptoms can either look very much like ADHD or can finally bring it to light after decades of onerous and horribly successful masking. This complicates the whole process of diagnosis further, not to mention medication, because HRT may need to be titrated alongside or instead of ADHD medication. It’s a “chicken and egg” situation and v difficult to know what to attend to first.

This is me! Though when I looked back throughout my childhood and life, there were clues. Now figuring out my 76 year old mom has it as well. It’s just crazy. Edit: It was my 34 year old daughter that was diagnosed first. Women are so ignored. We all experienced bad PMDD as well.

Hi, I love you guys! My 26 year old son has got a huge amount out of listening to your podcasts, in fact they're the highlight of his week. He's currently seeking a diagnosis and recommended that I watch your series to help me understand more about his particular challenges. I'm considering paying for his diagnosis and wondered if you have an update on who has the best waiting times?

I was diagnosed at 53 after my neighbour suggested I may have it. Took 18 months to get an appointment and was diagnosed after 1 consultation. My family have no interest in my condition and choose to ignore the fact my ADHD affects my behaviours and thought processes. My own family have disowned me
