Today I'm taking a look at the Adidas SolarBoost. It's my first time running at an Adidas daily trainer. And while it's a neutral shoe that is going to work well for a lot of runners in a lot of different situations, I find that I like it more for easier runs or longer runs. There are some guide rails along each side of the foot and an ample heel cup that keep the foot right where Adidas intends. I think this will be most enjoyable for those of you out there who don't need a stability shoe but might want a little bit more structure or support than bootie or socklike uppers might provide.
Also, because of those guide rails, I think this shoe will do quite well at the gym where you might be mixing it up between the treadmill, weights, and/or a group fitness class.
Overall, I felt like the shoe provided a nice amount of guidance without getting too assertive. I could feel what it was trying to do, but I didn't feel like it was fighting me. I took this shoe out for a recovery run (I might have been going a little fast for this to be a true recovery run though), and I enjoyed the cushion both in the midsole and around the heel, ankle, and top of the foot.
The only real complaint I have about the shoe is that there is a lot of boost, but I can't really feel it. The cushioning feels good, and I do feel cushioning in the midsole. It's just not that signature Boost sensation that I was hoping for. And if I did get more of that Boost feeling, I'd probably forgive that it does feel a tiny bit heavy.

The charity runner for the week is Scott Boatwright, who will be raising money for Rising New York Road Runners by running the Chicago Marathon. I've donated $70 to his fundraising efforts and hope you'll consider joining me.
