Great review, Mike. I love the look and feel of the shoe and it’s a good improvement on the Pro 2 (which was my favorite distance shoe). However, took it for a 33 km run last week and came home with a blister on my left heel that totally surprised me. Going to look at my lacing and see if it was just a one-off issue. Otherwise, highly recommend for comfort and great response on long runs at or around marathon pace. And the colorway is killer too!
That stitching at the achilles on the collar is in a bad place but it sounds like your blister issue was lower on your foot. I didn't have any problems lower.
$360 AUD -_-. It's a fantastic shoe, and the wider base helps make the shoe a lot more stable at slower paces. The toe-off spring is so much fun when you pick up the pace.
I loved the Adios Pro2 for shorter fast distances. I still use them for interval workouts, but wasn’t as keen for Half/Marathon compared to VapourFly’s or AlphaFly’s. However, this new version could be the one. Will be interested in your longer run feedback 🏃♂️👍
I got a pair for $100 at the Adidas outlet. These are way above my ability, and are absurdly bouncy. I love them. Im out there running 11s in a Ferrari of a shoe 😆
I see they have a pair for $125 I'm thinking of getting NB Rebel v4 bit man for$125 should I just snag them for my half marathon in December. My first marathon in February
I found the bottom two eyelets for the laces have hard circular “discs” that pushes against the top of my feet and cause quite a bit of discomfort. Not sure if this happens to anyone else or just my thick feet?
The Prime X has the same design and at first I had to use physio tape and socks that weren't too thin. For me it's a step backward compared to Pro 2. On the bright side, the upper tends to become more flexible with time and this become less of an issue. I don't even notice it anymore in my Prime X (though I do have some light red pressure points on the top of my feet after a long run).
I reverse the laces so they pull up thru the eyelets instead of downwards thru the eyelets..that lifts the upper off the toes..I do it in all my shoes cos the laces then slide thru the eyelets smoother and get a better lockdown..
Loving the Adios Pro 3. Tried the Adios Pro 2 just because it was available at 50% off. I liked it and used it for Sprints and Intervals. Started using it for longer runs and it delivered. The problems I had with the 2 was it was a bit on the narrow side (forefoot and heel) and one of the carbon rods broke. Got the Adios Pro 3 (because of the good experience with the 2 and again at a discounted price) (+) Feels more stable. Feels wider on both the forefoot and heel (but still not at the level of the MetaSpeed Sky/Edge) (+) Really feel the extra cushioning compared to the 2 (especially at the heel) (+) There's more "rocker" feel compared to the 2 (and especially the VF 2) (+) Breathable upper - definitely good for racing (-) Not liking the lacing system. I this it can be further improved. Will be trying it during a Sprint Triathlon race instead of the Alpha Fly and hopefully the positive things I've seen holds in a race as well.
@@trinichinee6426 Asics MetaSpeed Sky. Can't get any wider and stability across those shoes. Feels like my entire foot is supported by the shoe. AF 1/2 needs some getting used to becuase of the high stack. Adios Pro runs narrower and you can really feel the side to side slide wehn cornering at fast paces. You won't have any of those in the Metaspeed Sky.
Do you want to bring a 100mile video to them? How long they last is what matters the most for me, especially at this price range. As much as I loved the AlphaFly 1st gen (my last shoes with that price tag) - they simply were horrible in terms of durability. Didnt last 250km, so basically one marathon session.
Awesome review Mike! I'm racing (plodding around) my first marathon in October and I'm not sure I want to spend the money on this. I'm doing all my training in the SL20.2 and wondered what your thoughts would be about using the Adios 6/7 or the Boston 10/11 for a slow, first-time marathon shoe?
Ben, Adios 6/7 would be not enough shoe for the first time. Boston is an option for sure as well as Novablast 3 which Mike just named the shoe of the year.
Never been this early for a video. I was looking forward to this review. I guess I'll be getting a pair in my size when it comes time to upgrade. Does this run small?
Looking forwards to a showdown between all the super shoes that suck up all your earth credits (Shoutout to Ed) Non shoe related question, how many hours in the sun does it take for that killer tan!?
Interestingly enough, I have the Spring Green colourway on the Adios 2, and off the top of my head, it weighs in around 230 in a UK 8/US 8.5, and that was with a fresh battery in the Salter scale. I'd like to think it's lighter than that. Is it possible that there have been unannounced modifications to future iterations of the same shoe, is that a genuine theme in the running shoe industry? Eager to hear your people's comments, as my shoe, which is smaller by half a size, seems to weigh significantly more than the equivelant half size up. How does that work! Edit: Just realised that these are the shoe weights stated by adidas. Either Salter manufacture unreliable scales, or adidas is lying.
Update 6 months later: upper laces tongue and lockdown are bad but ride/midsole are awesome/noble; few days ago i stepped into EP3 and they felt cheap and tiny after AP3
Thank you for review cousin Ko 🤜🏾🤛🏻. If you still have the AP2s with only racing miles(less than 30), would you jump to the AP3s now since it’s a better shoe and use the AP2s as a long distance trainer?
Me and the Adios 2 never got along well, which is why I just use them as my speed workout shoes. Btw, did you add a new set of light to your studio? Things look so much brighter.
Thank you, would have overlook this one without your review. Unless I missed it, you make no comments/ review about the fit. Your usual size?, Narrower, wider,? Comfort? Pressure points?. Cheersl
The midsole geometry aspect that has one landing closer to midfoot sounds very much like the Asics Edge+ when compared to the Sky+, but of course with a whole lot more stack height to begin with on the Adios Pro3, as well as a slightly lower drop. But that is what works so smoothly for me as a midfoot striker (sometimes heel when tired-like most people).
How do you compare this Adizero Pro 3 with Nike Vaporfly Next% 2? I’m still struggling which one I should wear for my London marathon which is 3 weeks out. I tried both shoes and both of them is comfortable. Pro 3 can helped me hit a faster pace when I tried it on for a half marathon time trial. However. I have experienced a tiny scratch from the upper part over the bone of my baby toe on the right side. A bit frustrated. Feel like Nike Vaporfly Next 2 is the safe choice…
I'm having the exact same dilemma for Berlin marathon (next week!). I was lucky enough to get a free pair of the Adizero Pro 3 to wear as part of a study so I should wear them for the marathon but I'm worried about the potential for blisters as the upper really doesn't fit that well. I read somewhere that changing the lacing so that you start from bottom up rather than top down (which is the standard way the shoes come) might help to get a better lock down. Good luck for London!
@@joannamartignoni Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I tried Adizero Pro 3 again for a threshold run last Tuesday, which was about 10K long. I loosened the lace on the right side a bit to see do the upper part will give me any little scratchy feel. No discomfort anymore. However, I still want to play safe and will wear Vaporfly for London. Good luck for Berlin. I’m keen on learning how you are doing for your race.
Hey Dude, what was your marathon pace for this run when you tested this shoe, and what was your threshold pace during this run too? Great videos my friend. Keep up the good work!
I firmly believe that the relevant metric is effort when describing how a shoe feels. If I’m wrong on that, then anything a professional sponsored runner could ever tell you about a shoe is useless (unless you’re also a professional runner). But for what it’s worth, marathon effort for me these days equates generally to about 6:45/mi on rolling tarmac in 66F and 97% humidity with a cross wind. Threshold effort is about 6:15/mi. Full data available on my strava.
Hello I've just discovered your channel, and the reviews are crazy awesome. Curious to know if you can recommend a complimentary daily trainer for the Adois Pro 3, as you have for others. If time permits I listen in our Podcasts
I got a small blister on my right big toe bone base. I think it’s from the eyelet of the shoe. Bummer because they felt like perfect fit when i first put them on. Now I have to hold back on a few workouts. Trying to stay optimistic about it though
Ouch on that price, I can get it for $150 here in China. Tried a pair at the mall a couple of days ago, amazing. Didn't realize they were so different from daily trainers like my Boston 12s.
Very excited for this shoe! Raced and PRd my marathon in the Pro 2..twice, and did my first 50k in them. Definitely going to pick these up! Great review!
I too like it better than the AAP2 and I ran Boston in the 2nd one. Only issue for me was the stitching at the achilles on the collar. My socks prevented any hot spots but I can see it being a problem for some.
I also found the 3 is much more comfortable than the 2 at longer distances..as you say the landing area is better and not as harsh as before..it's smoother rolling and when you get into a rhythm you can feel the effort and speed come together and you really feel like you're flying..V2 was fast but also beat you up in a race..I'm not a fan of the upper, especially the lack of any heel structure or actually no structure anywhere but the breathability is good..will try it on a fast, smooth 10k next weekend..beware the outsole is really "tacky" and don't get lazy about lifting your feet on a rough road surface..most outsoles can slide a little,if you scuff your feet, but this one has too much traction and you might get some road rash..easy to see why many elites are winning and setting records..
Just got these and ran a 32K long run past weekend. For my foot with slight bunion problem, the top eyelet would stab into my big toe joint after about 10K. More people need to be warned about this!! I have seen many commenters suggesting KT tape over the joint or skipping the lacing on the top set of eyelets all together. Another issue is their laces. Listened to a lot of redditors and swapped out my Brooks shoe laces onto the adios pro 3, much better lockdown.
Hey Mike. Awesome initial review. I hope that unlike the Pro 2 no issues are experienced. Hopefully you will race Chicago in these if nothing else peaks your interest. Adidas nailed this colourway. 😎👌
Is anyone else getting heal rubbing? I want to use the Adios Pro 3 for the NYC marathon. I'm effortlessly able to hit the paces on my workouts. However, I got a heal blister on my workout today. So frustrating.
Nice review, been starting to follow your channel recently for the past few months. Just out of curiosity, I'm looking at this shoe along with Metaspeed Edge+ and Altra Vanish Carbon to try out my first carbon plated/ rod shoe experience. In your opinion, should they be in the same line comparing with each other? And the ultimate question would be, which of these 3 would you go for?
This shoe is one of the best carbon racers ive tried, i feel like the foam doesnt collapse like the vp3 and for heavier runners you get great energy return. Easy to get a flow going
Hello mate! Can you make comparesion between adidas adios pro vs adios pro 3.. im still using the adios pro and love the bounce and respond from it.. but milage already low and i like to try the pro 3 but im afraid the respond and bounce are not the same. Thank you
Hi Ko. I’m about to get this, but still confuse about sizing. I usually wear US 8.5 in vaporfly and Us 8 in Rocket x. I never tried any adidas shoe before. Should I take a half size down? Because i heard that Adios Pro 3 has a longer tad.
Its quite interesting how you changed your footstrike in the last years. Its very forward forefoot now. For me it looks very unnatural, maybe it works for some people.
I know this is a year old Kofuzi, but how did they hold up and are they worth getting? I have a marathon in April. I’m a big Takumi Sen 8 fan and use them for 5k’s up to half’s. TIA
on this particular pair, a carbon rod broke. it's the first time that's happened in 3 adios pros, 3 prime x's, 3 takumi sens, and 2 Bostons. I have subsequently picked up another pair of adios pro 3, and so far so good. adios pro 3 is one of my favorite marathon racers
I snatched a pair at a very good price but I'm also a runner that has some pronation issues. Are these stable? Are the Endorphin Pro 3 better/softer/more versatile as I've heard?
What are your thoughts on the arch of these shoes? the 2 is a fantastic shoe but for people with low arches (or flat feet) the shoe started to poke into the foot after some miles resulting in blisters on 10mile / half marathon races.
I found that only asics metaspeed sky/edge are tolerant with runners with flat feet, came here right after the first fm with adios pro 3, my feet hurts so much, and blisters are unreal, seems like adidas and nike super shoes are not for me since i have flat feet
I've been running in the Pro 2, got them super cheap and I love them, but they leave my legs sore for a few days. I'll be in Chicago as well, what Corrall are you in?
Do you think there would be less energy return for a runner that is smaller in stature with these shoes or super shoes w/high stacks in general? Have been debating whether to run nxt marathon w/Takumi Sen 8, pony up for the pro 3, or stick to the alphaflys.. alphaflys are what actually got me thinking if for a shorter/lighter runner, higher stack heights and more absorbant mid-foams may be less optimal. Personal anecdote - am on the smaller side and lost about 10 lbs after having lyme disease/covid in 2021 resulting in minimal running, and definitely notice a more dampened return in energy when running in the alphaflies since. I know the weight varies for different shoe sizes, but does that also go for the density of the foam?
I think you also need to consider power. I may be 20 or 30 pounds heavier than an elite woman, but their marathon pace is about a minute per mile faster than mine. What they put in to the shoe is very different than what I can do. And it has very little to do with weight
That's fair.. probably a reason Jepchirchir wears the Pro3s lol. I do think though in an apples to apples comparison of the Adios Pro 3 and TS8, the thicker slab of LSPro in the Pro3 will attenuate the force generated by the same power exertion somewhat more than w/the TS8. My understanding was that this is preferred in longer distances as to reduce wear/tear. Gonna take the TS8 out this weekend for a longer effort and see how it feels. Love the review btw! Amazing content as always
Adidas should offer the ablity to custom order shoes like Nike. Odd Adidas hasn't done this. So people can option out the heel flap for a "loop pull tab". Dont know about the missing chunk of midsold under the pinky toe...some say they notice it at first when they begin their run....Don't know how much of a thing that is or not. Seems to em the Pro 2 midsole made more sense. Good thing you can still buy the Pro 2....$20.00 Cdn less than the 3. Is the 3 better??
Interestingly Adidas did used to allow you to customise shoes back in the Adios 3 days (I’ve got a couple of pairs). It didn’t go as far as pull tabs, but you could select the colour of the shoe, the stripes, the tongues the laces etc and have some text printed in them. They weren’t ridiculously expensive either. Don’t know why they stopped but I guess it wasn’t profitable enough to be worth the effort for them
I have run 120km in pro3 and 50km in alphafly; both are fantastic in very different ways, much like when you drive a Lamborghini and Ferrari, or sleep with 2 beauties from 2 continents; you do climax but the process cannot be more different.
