Good to see a video that addresses the older ballcock style. I get that it can be tricky to adjust, the Fluidmaster is easier, etc. But as long as there are still replacement parts -- cap, diaphragm, etc. -- the ballcock can last a while.

Wow, random 11 year old vlog. I must say I enjoyed this. Unfortunately, in England UK, we have the ballcock the the rest is different (not a plumber). No screw like you have over there, which would make life do much easier. Instead, I have to bend the metal bar to achieve the same outcome, but it means the washer is failing, so it's only a temporary reprieve. I'm not losing this glitch in the matrix, so I'm subscribing. Thank you for uploading this vlog all those years ago. New Subscriber from Stafford England UK 🇬🇧

Thank you for your easy to follow video. I have this old school assembly in my tank. Same toilet too. Can I replace the flush valve that doesnt have this type of ball float connected? You mentioned it in the video. My question is can I just install myself the universal flush valve without this type of same ball float or does the tank need to be adjusted somehow to use a different setup?

Instead of that little red knob at the top, mine has a metal screw, similar to the nearby screws. I need to lower the water level and don’t want to break anything. Should I use a screwdriver and gently try to adjust it anyway?

do you turn clockwiase or anticlockwise
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 6 лет назад
That depends on what you need to do. Turn it clockwise to tighten the screw against the valve and it lowers the ball. Hence, lowering the water level in the tank. Turn it counterclockwise for the opposite. Thanks for watching, and I am glad to help. Don't forget to stop by our website www.greatwhiteninja.com

I just replaced the ballcock because water was spewing out from around it. But how in the world do I get the water level under the top of the overflow tube?? I’ve adjusted the red plastic screw and can’t get the floater to get where it needs to be. I’m all out of ideas.
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 5 лет назад
On some ballcocks, you can bend the metal shaft. But most of the time this will just cause the float to spin up. There is a small amount of adjustment to the old traditional ballcocks, and you might not be able to adjust it to how you need to. Honestly, I never install a new one. I always install this instead. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KLvoFsE3NP0.html
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 5 лет назад
I can't believe that I forgot this. Some ballcocks have a tightening screw at the top where the metal shaft goes in that will allow you to move it down a little, on these ones you could bend the shaft a little. For the rest of them, you can screw the ball itself up and down to make it longer or shorter. Sorry, it has been a while since I have actually worked on one of these old units.
@diabuckner
@diabuckner 5 лет назад
Thank you so much! I bent the shaft a little bit and adjusted the little gold screw. that seemed to fix it:)

Where in the video did you show how to adjust a ballcock? Even though I don't have a red button, if I knew which way to turn what I have to raise the ballcock, even that would have helped. That's what I was looking for.
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 3 года назад
Adjusting the red screw is what you adjust. Your adjustment screw might not be red, but you should have one. Do you not?
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 3 года назад
I see, I really forgot what I put in this video because it is like 6 years old. If you screw that adjustment screw to the right it should lower the ballcock arm and lower the amount of water in the tank. The opposite happens if you turn the screw to the left.

Just with what you have given me, it sounds like the fill valve is just completely off. Is the screw so tight that it is pushing the plunger down?
@pagliaccio27
@pagliaccio27 2 года назад
It's unfortunate that you didn't make a demonstration. I was waiting to see what it would looked like if you screwed the red screw because when I was screwing or unscrewing, I was a afraid that the screw "loose" would let the water out or even suddenly splatter out.
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 2 года назад
I do a better job of explaining this old ballcock in my newer video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7BPDBBVzSWk.html which pops up in the first few seconds of this video. Though I don't actually adjust the screw, mostly because our water is so hard here that I don't want something to get stuck on this old fill valve. I am not sure what you are describing when you talk about fearing the screw. Were you worried that water would shoot out from under the screw? Because if you were, that does not happen unless something broke apart.

Water closet not filling up to the level it should, it stops approximately inch & a half lower than the water mark left on the closet wall. It is the older model with ball. I cannot change because the water inlet valve outside is turning free or bad. I want the the closet to fill up automatically, should I turn the top screw counter clockwise? Thanks
@AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 4 года назад
Yes, turning the screw counter clockwise should raise the water level. If you did want to change out the fill valve, but your shut off is not working properly, then you could turn the water off to the entire house and make the change. @AroundTheHome1
@AroundTheHome1 6 лет назад
I'm sorry, but I am not understanding your question. Any ballcock that I have used has a simple adjustment screw that directly pushes the valve off when the ball rises. If yours is older and has ceased in being able to do this, adjusting the valve will not be enough. Then it is time to replace that fill valve with something better. Question. I have same toilet as in this video. My problem is that when I flush only about half the water from the tank goes down and then the flapper shuts. If I hold the flush handle down for 8 seconds the tank will completely empty and I get a good flush. QUESTION: I have to exact same set up as you do and I'm trying to get my water level just right. Can you please tell me what that screw to the right of the fill valve screw is?
