Parts on order for the Knucklehead Topend oiler, so, lets attack this clutch control on the Shovelhead roadbike. It's taking more effort to operate than I would prefer.

Hi Mike and Mike, thanks for another great video! Unfortunately this year's Toy Run where I am in Adelaide, South Australia, had to be cancelled on the weekend due to severe storms. The toys were still collected and will be distributed, but the actual ride part couldn't go ahead. 😢 Anyway, I'd like to wish you both a wonderful festive season! Ride safe & keep the shiny side up. Cheers from Oz! 👍👍🇦🇺 🍻

Again Professor Mike, you are my favorite HD master mechanic. PHD in tutorials. Thank you for passing this information on to the younger generations to come. Keeping history alive. That being said when you have time could you post a video on the rear juice drums. Tons of stuff on mechanical but nothing on rebuild or adjustment. I know it’s super simple, but I know people would love to see it in your catalog. The shovels are the new pans and the twins are the shovels and so on. I don’t prefer anything that doesn’t run in a carb like the old guys used to say about swing arms. lol. But to each their own. This stuff is just getting rare so if you could help the entire community as usual. Thank you brother. Much love. Ride safe and Merry Christmas. I’m from IL but I sure would love the chance to see you out on the road. God bless.

The heads are STD. They were made with 3 stud exhaust ports. So Rob and Nathan at Turner" Customs in Yucaipa Ca. made my exhaust system (my design and their talent) and we only used 4 sets of old pipes to do it. We'll keep running as long as we can.

@@pacificmike9501 Got a crazy question, do I need a different mainshaft to convert a '79-80 belt final drive trans to old school chain? Encountering resistance. Switching flattop to ratchet turning non-trival. Should I sell it and buy a 70's ratchet lid 4-speed instead?
@pacificmike9501
@pacificmike9501 7 месяцев назад
That final belt drive trans is probably worth some serious money. Yes, I'd much rather have a ratchet lid trans. You can change what you have to chain sprocket, with spacers. Just remember that it has the longest mainshaft of any of the fourspeeds.
@SP2X1353
@SP2X1353 7 месяцев назад
@@pacificmike9501The 1974 ratchet top in it now had the back primary ears broken off in a wreck, prettied it up with a grinder but the mainshaft support just hangs out there on top, couldn't do for a decent belt guard. Rebuilt it in '78 as mainshaft was bent too, still works great. Picked up the sidewinder top at a swap meet cheap around '82 with no research I stupidly thought the case was the same and I could swap tops and final gear, Finally retired and lining up some old projects I just never got around to. Thanks man.
@SP2X1353
@SP2X1353 7 месяцев назад
Oh the '74 trans is an FX with the tiny speedo. there is no shaft in it to connect the gear box to the big clock. Have not known how fast I'm going for 40 years but on the plus side she still has zero miles.

Good morning Mike… 1990 EVO softail… 80,000 + miles … runs great , but shifts a little stiff , and I can’t find neutral without shutting the engine off … I’ve replaced the clutch cable and lever, and made the proper adjustment according to the service manual… the clutch isn’t slipping and there is clearly a engagement / disengaged to the clutch assembly and seams good to me … any thoughts and advice on typical possible solutions would be much appreciated… thank you …

Ah, 'adjustments' - there to please the very soul of any good design, so the jacket fits their shoulders & their trousers hang just fine. Whether over-centre mousetraps, or push rod floated springs, their angle of free-dangle, will amount to many things. For ease of use, or wrist abuse, the answer's in your hands, so 'back off a quarter turn & a blonde one', & put your hand in happy land. Hey Mike, off topic question that I’m hoping you might point me in the right direction. I have a buddy in San Diego who is a retired Marine. His best friend, another retired Marine, is in poor health and is pretty much confined to a wheelchair. They both love to ride, but due to his friends restrictions, he is unable to any more. My friend, Jon, had the idea of a side car that would be able to fit the chair into and get the guy back into the wind and ride with him once again. It got me remembering the few you put out about the sidecar you had on your bike for a short period of time to take your dog on rides. Do you know, or maybe someone else reading this know, is there a manufacturer that sells such a set up? I don’t believe a regular sidecar is an option and I really don’t know the requirements for securing a wheelchair in a sidecar, especially in Southern California. If you or anyone might have a lead I can pass on, please let me know.
@pacificmike9501
@pacificmike9501 7 месяцев назад
I remember years ago, there was a bike with a sidecar in Ventura (That's where I saw ir) that had a sidecar chassis and a flat surface. The wheelchair rolled up into the sidecar. It was just a sidecar chassis with the body removed. I would contact the Vet's clubs in the San Diego area. There are some wonderful Veteran's Motorcycle clubs.

Hey Mike, thanks for answering these questions! I have a 66' FL that is stock. I had two quarts of oil in my primary when I took the cover off. Does this mean my pick up is clogged or that oil is leaking in from somewhere else? Thanks!
@pacificmike9501
@pacificmike9501 2 месяца назад
Well, I don'tt know what's been done to the bike. If it's been sitting quite a while, it could have wetsumped and filled the lower end which then leaked it from the "motor seal" into the primary. Hard to say. Need more facts from what lead up to this happening.

@@pacificmike9501 Bike sat for a couple years. I put good gas in it, fired it up. I pulled the clutch in and kicked it in to gear and it killed because the clutch wasn't disengaging, which prompted my tearing in to it. I didn't really determine exactly what the cause was but cleaned everything up, put a new pushrod in it and it works great now. I just want to make sure I don't need to address the oil issue in the primary before I reassemble. Your best guess is all imagined you could do without knowing everything. Thanks again!!

Have fun. A 66 stock Shovelhead is a real prize. Yep, sat two years and naturally "wet sumped." Keep an eye on things. Run it. Make sure while it's running that the oil is returning to the tank. Pull the cap on top of the oil tank. Remove the filter and watch the oil returning. Again. Enjoy.
