The three admirals, Kizaru, Aokiji and Akainu, are all named after colors and animals, respectively Yellow Monkey, Blue Pheasant and, as you've already figured out, Red Dog.

Zaru can still stand for Monkey in Japanese. The Kana just takes a different form depending on whatever syllables take place before it. It's not a "trick", it's proper Japanese. It's like Genkidama (spirit bomb) in DBZ. Tama means "ball". Dama also means "ball". It's spelled with a D because it's attached to Genki which means "good" or "healthy"

You got it right, Water Seven is inspired by Venice, as Oda confirmed. One of the problem this fictional city has, the Acqua Laguna, is actually inspired as well (even tho obviously exagerated) by same problems that the italian city is facing, that is a raising of the sea level that risk to make it completely disappear in the next decades (there were attempts to block this through a project to isolate the Venice laguna from the adriatic called MOSE but was shut down after corruption scandals)

Aokiji (Blue Pheasant) is his alias or title name in the Navy. His real name is Kuzan. And he is 47 years old here. And yes he has a Logia Type Devil Fruit. And one of the strongest Logia of course.
