Buying absolutely is owning in this case though. The problem is that you're buying *more* than you were led to believe, with an early termination fee you didn't know existed. Like, I'm all for piracy, and I don't consider piracy stealing, but that phrase is just not what's going on here.

@@jayden9287 Well you have a point there. It slipped my mind that adobe uses a subscription model. I made the assumption that the first commenter was referring to what this video is about, but I guess they were taking issue with adobe in general. Which is fair. I think legally speaking, you don't buy the software, you buy a license to use it and you get to own that. It just comes with a giant legalese list of terms and conditions explaining everything the license permits you to do and everything you're not allowed to do with the license, (like sell it to someone else) and it has an expiration date. That doesn't really fit the colloquial use of the word "ownership", but I think that's how it works.

@@rebeccawest3608 I did that with planet fitness during the pandemic. I missed one payment, so they charged me a late fee (of double the montly cost), which lead to a spiral of months of this. In the end they wanted a few hundred that I didn't have. I just cancelled the card on file, never heard from them again and never will go back. Also they were still charging people during the pandemic even when they weren't open.

I went through the exact same thing but I avoided paying it by switching to a cheaper plan and then immediately canceling it for free

Remember updates don't just contain new features, they contain updated code that can help protect you. It's the invisible features but they are still important. Just because the interface doesn't change, doesn't mean that nothing is happening. Also pumping whites the subscription model is because you're also paying for certain services including the cloud which by having access to you do need a subscription in order to access that as the cloud is not free. According to data it says that Adobe will update its software about two or three times per month so yes it does actually happen so frequently that it does justify it. Just because you're not seeing stuff doesn't mean it's not happening.

@blizzardwizard8318 1. If the program was locally hosted instead of being run on CC, security updates wouldn't be necessary to update frequently. In other words, if you could buy individual instances of each program and store them on your device alone, those security features that you're talking about? those become less essential 2. Also that 2nd Paragraph is circular logic. "You need to have a subscription because it uses the Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem, which you are ^^^encouraged^^^ to use" So basically, you gotta pay $24 per month if you just want PS and LR because you also get storage on their cloud 3. I get wanting to justify spending money on Adobe products, but i dropped that ages ago GIMP works just as good, is free, gets major updates and the small bug fixes, all while letting you host your instance on your computer. There isn't a cloud service you're pressured into, you just draw and move on After High School, when i had to pay for my own Adobe subscription instead of leeching off the school's, i got to learn what a fucking money sink Adobe products actually were

Gym memberships are notoriously bad at canceling. Some of them require you to send a letter to their corporate within 30 days of your term ending. If they don't get it, oops, ya bonehead, You got another year of gym membership!

Not really they just sell a yearly lisence and it expires 365 days later. You either pay in full or in instances every month. It is their software so they have the right. The only problem is they expect every user has a degree in law.
