Adopting a Friend's Baby

Judge Mathis

The plaintiff used to be friends with the defendant. When the defendant became pregnant, the plaintiff intended to adopt the child. However, the defendant backed out of the agreement after the plaintiff had already hired an attorney, so she's suing. The defendant admits she agreed to the adoption, but the father didn't.

How do you know that's the real reason, she could've just had second thoughts and so could the father. That doesn't make her or her wrong. @@Mooe-cb6bvyou’re absolutely correct. The plaintiff said this first, and the defendant stated numerous of times she helped her ; however I’m not sure how the defendant should owe her anything when she played her part and role. She signed her rights ; the father did not. There is nothing she did wrong just as judge Mathis said ; to even assume she should have to come out of pocket and refund her friend back. Also ; with a friend like this who needs enemies. Typically your friend should want to be there for you anyway…. These ppl are not listening closely enough. The plaintiff deliberately started the insults the moment the case was ruled in the defendants favor. The plaintiff should’ve been more educated with the law. @theoracle2760 5 месяцев назад
The defendant is clearly not someone who makes sound judgements. Just because she was about to give her the child doesn't mean she was stable. One major clue is she was already talking about relying on her mother, who is clearly already up in age, for help. It sounds like it was the father who started talking some sense and made the mother realize her friend was probably just not the best candidate and probably not much more stable than she was. Adoption is a rigorous process. The plaintiff probably would've never been approved by a real agency.

She was a very nice person and a good mom to her other kids she just was going through some things. I knew she wouldn't be okay with that mentally. Crazy that most of the comments are talking about the friend was wrong, but hardly no one finds it alarming that the plaintiff is TRYING to conceive and now adopt only 2 years removed from high school? And she's basically trying her hardest to become a single mom with no husband/father in the picture at around 20-21 years of age. And her mother cosigning this is insane! The dismissiveness of how important a father is in this culture is astounding. Ironically, I think that's also what ultimately lost her this case. She didn't think she had to consider what the father of the child had to say about the matter and it cost her.

The lawyer should refund the money! There was no adoption.

Her friend was being a friend BUT the Father of the child said no, so don't be mad at her. It just is what it is. It would've been right for The Defendent to re-pay her any monies she might of paid towards the baby because they did agree she was to adopt her son. Thats the sole reason sge was shelling out the funds. The Defendent did kind of spit in her friends face. Took the her friends monies paid towards the adoption, made her do that work for not and The Plantiff ended up empty handed. The Defendent admitted that. Thats messed up. The Judge could've atleast refunded her her attorneys fees. But The Defendent is laying in the bed she made, so they Judge just considered it a wash.

Legally you have the right to change your mind anytime tho for adoption. It sucks but it happens all the time and the adoptee parent can’t really sue it happens

With every adoption there is a risk the birth parent has the right at any time to withdrawal for whatever reason i believe until 14 days after birth. She should of known

I disagree … the plaintiff lost money because the defendant didn’t follow through. She should’ve gotten something 😢

Skyler moved to fast, she should have waited till both parents agreed, knowing her boyfriend dont get alone with the father. I wonder why she wanted that baby so badly. she still young, still have time to have her own baby

The plaintiff is the type of friend that will go above & beyond to help her friend. The defendant will need her again & if the plaintiff is smart she'll cut all ties. The defendant's Mom is too ignorant to know she should be quiet. Your daughter was about to give away her baby that she was having with a man that was willing to give his baby up for adoption to your family member.....who by the way......BACKED OUT Plaintiff please get as far away from these people as possible.

The audacity of the plaintiff and the mother to say the defendant is unstable when her daughter is the definition of unstable and irresponsible birth control.

Said she wasn't fit so needed someone to adopt but at the end was calling her ex friend names. She could afford an attorney. She wanted the baby back cause she thought would give her the relationship with dude they didn't have before
