Exactly. It's like Foden can only play with Haaland, De Bruyne, Silva and dem around him. He should have been subbed off after 50mins for Gordon or Palmer.

No chance with Southgate. He is far too slow to react to what is happening on the pitch. He stands there watching the team get dominated, with his fingers crossed that the inevitable doesn't happen. Whats the point of having so much talent on the bench if he isnt going to use it? A top mnager with a pair of balls would have dragged Foden and Kane off after an hour. They were both non existent.

Southgate against top 10 at the time of the match was played is as follows. P26 W7 D9 L 10 ( 2 of those draws were penalties. Which was 1 loss and 1 win. So the figures could be 27-8-7-11. Not the greatest but I'm going to try that with every top 20 or so nation. I expect only 4-5 might have a positive result from that. So position 6-8 th in the world would be what we should expect and it would compare ok to any time in the last 50 years.

If you make % look bad you could say Venables only got 1 win in 8 match's against the top 10. Sounds terrible. But his full record was P8 W1 D6 L1 (with penalties that could be 2 less draws and a win and a loss, hence P8-W2-D4-L2 so 50% which is OK.

You could say the exact same thing after almost every game we’ve ever played under Southgate. The exact same thing. We play the same, dont learn lessons, limp over the line against lesser teams, and we’ll inevitably be dumped out in the QF/SF stages when we come up against stronger teams.

I think Hoddle and Venables had a better approach. Hoddle was at the wrong time possibly. Howe may be better.

@@pauladdae3130 I do remember Hoddle always going for 2 holding midfielders in Ince and Batty. He only started playing Beckham and Owen when he had to, starting them in the 3rd game 1998 WC. Romania well outplaying England in the 2nd match defeat.

@@pauladdae3130 When England played under Ramsey, Mercer, Greenwood, Robson, Hoddle, and Venables I could at least look forward to an exciting game and to feel that the players did us proud, even if they lost. But from Eriksen onwards, England have lacked passion and have been dull to watch.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how playing Foden LW denied us the second goal. His tendency to drift inside and into Kane's space, is perfectly summed up when Walker crosses it and he literally bumps into Kane. A proper LW and that would of been a goal as they'd likely been by the far post. 2-nil and we'd be talking about a completely different game.

sick of the talk of palying bellingham deeper so suit foden. We should be playing our best player in his best position and if foden cant do it we have eze and gordon. Also Saka was better than foden some absoloutley delusional fans out there. We are obssesed with big names. Kane goes missing in so many games. Yes he will statistically score a lot of goals over a season but this has to be tempered with the fact you are playing with 10 men half the time when he is on the field..... He doesn't close down or use much energy, he can't take defenders on and he isn't a massive handful physically. So over rated.

I think the problem with England midfield set up is they do not have central midfielders like Rodri or Toni Kroos who can control the tempo. Replace Rice with Rodri and you can play Foden thru the middle in his natural position and Bellingham can still make runs thru the middle. Rice is a good DM but he is limited and that’s why Arnold is playing next to him

You can have the best most expensive guitar in the world but you have to know how to play it. This man Southgate never learns. Negative mindset, negative tactics, that id understand if he was in charge of Carlton Palmer era England. These players are used to high tempo, high line, high press and his ego can't accept it. True. Kane and Foden should have come off after 50 minutes. Bring on Toney and Gordon. Foden gave the ball away far too much, he doesn't play like that for City. Still seeing some delayed reactions from Southgate in regards to subs. Southgate makes defensive substitutions which invite pressure. France, Portugal, Germany and Spain would batter England if that approach is adopted.

None of this is rocket science, we ALL knew that we wouldn't win anything under this fraud of a coach. What track record gave him the opportunity to "coach" the best players in a generation ?. His saving grace for the FA is he's an FA man, a blazer, nice guy but hopeless tactician. We are bereft of ideas when we are under the pump, we flounder, we are flat track bullies. We will never win anything until we have a ruthless operator who would have hooked Foden at half time and implemented plan B

One word.....Southgate! Why do the FA appoint a man who as a player and manager won nothing, never played for a major team or manage anyone of note. He doesn't know how to set his array of talent up and get the best out of them. We should've ask Pep or Klopp to take over just for the Euros.
