Early in the game, AP had his way with us, but as the game wore on, Ray started to make his presence felt. The only reason why the Vikings won this game was because Stephen Hauschka missed a game-winner at the buzzer. The period between Stover and Tucker, when it came to Raven kickers, was very hit-or-miss. Hauschka and Cundiff were both reliable and were prone to blow it at the same time. You never knew how it would go.
Vikings should have gone to the Super Bowl this year. Saints got away with so many fouls in the nfc championship game. Late hits galore on Farve. It was bounty gate, but they didn't get in trouble till later
@rodrigosoriano7832 I'd say this : LT has been the best overall running back this century when we talking about all skills included..but just straight running the ball? AP is the closest to Bo Jackson and Jim Brown we'll ever see
Vikings wasted AP's talent with shitty qb choices. christian ponder? brooks bollinger? beat to hell favre? tired mcnabb? plus a dozen more duds. Mismanagement on an epic scale.
@@xProxable Yeah but they wouldn't have been able to stack the box with 8 or 9 guys every play and his career would have lasted longer. 2009 was the only year Peterson had a good QB next to him to keep the defense honest.
@@cfaniel1010 we all know AP never had an outstanding o line. Watch the tape: AP avoided negative yards by running to the point of attack at a speed and strength never seen before.
@@LuisMercadoorglol, you guys acting like the defence doesnt have to respect Favre. These comments are silly These comments hold true for other seasons but certainly not when he had a HOF QB under center Hutchinson was legit asf. I dont remember the Vikings having terrible olines either
@@donsolos a hof QB at the end of his career throwing to whom exactly? Are we rewriting history? Are we forgetting Peterson was the HB who faced most stacked boxes in the entire 21st century? And Hutch was great indeed. Who else? I did say he never had an outstanding o line. One great player doesn’t make up for the rest of the o line.
theres no statue of AP in MN. , Ray and Unitas have staues in baltimore as you walk in the stadium. Ray single handedly was the reason we won the 2000 super bowl, without his leadership , it wasnt happening. he played defense, which is bonkers and won the superbowl mvp
2:28. This is what set Ray Lewis apart. He was great at getting off the block and tackling the back before they could break away. This was executed perfectly. A second late and Peterson was through the gap and in the open field.
I would say the last of the legendary backs. There were definately RB1's after him, but I agree 100% that AP was the last of that special gamebreaking breed.
@@howardmighty6764 Nope, didn't say that. I was replying to @edwinbowles2 saying Peterson is the last special gamebreaking running backs. Henry def fits in that category in my opinion.
I assume that this was an interesting matchup of Running Back Adrian Peterson Vs Linebacker Ray Lewis with the two Purple Teams against each other of the Baltimore Ravens and Minnesota Vikings.
19 rushes for 138 yard. dude averaged 7 yards a carry. get rid of that one run and he had 18 rushes for about 80 yards which is 4.4 yards a carry. he even had 20 receiving yards. no td's but he hurt them the entire game. AP definitely wins
AP couldve score on that 2nd goal-line attempt if he would've just followed his blockers. Also Ray Lewis called that last big run, "its coming back side" and bam backside jump cut and AD was gone
He called an earlier play too and made the stop. This was late enough in his career where he wasn't the same sideline to sideline player. You could see it in a lot of these plays he didn't get downhill the same way he use to
“He said he doesn’t care about yards and that he’d trade them for wins and touchdowns any day.” Also “We asked him if he knew the last time he saw us, and he said ‘296’”
Ray got sealed out of that play so bad, he looked like he was still a freshman at the U. Reed to his credit corralled a runaway train which most FS ain’t doing
Ap is the best! Say what you want about whoever you want! Some great names, but AP stands alone. His ability to make you miss or just blatantly run through you was second to none! Hardest runner to ever do it!
Time is 2:07. No linebacker in the NFL today takes on an offensive lineman, stops the lineman in his tracks, sheds the block, and tackles the ball carrier dead in his tracks.
AP got the better of Ray Lewis on that last play. The play was a run off the right tackle. AP started that way and Lewis committed himself to that side. But then AP, seeing there was no hole, cut left leaving Lewis out of the play.
Not really though. Watch it again. Ray literally said and pointed, "It's coming backside". And Adrian went exactly where Ray said. Ray shouldn't be playing a gap that doesn't belong to him.
I watched this this game live back in '09. And it was one of the best football games I've ever seen, it was back and forth right up to the end. And there was so much star power on both teams.
Adrian Peterson faced off against Ray Lewis during an NFL game. Their physical matchup showcased the clash of talent and determination on the gridiron field. They are both future Hall of Famers at that.🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
you better recognize that this was adrian vs old ray. there’s a reason why certain players don’t have a highlight reel against a young ray. greenhorns. y’all wanna know why? i can tell you wanna know. i’ll tell you why. BECAUSE THEY DON’T HAVE A FUCKING HIGHLIGHT REEL AGAINST A YOUNG RAY THAT’S WHY. greenhorns.
AP might be the best back of all time. Think about the level of athletes on the field, and the old school hard-nose style of football that was yet to be penalized outve existence. He accomplished all of it against guys like Ray Lewis, Ed reed, Brian Dawkins, Patrick Willis, Luke Kuechly, Urlacher, Clay Matthew’s, James Harrison, Kam Chancellor, Khalil Mack, Troy polamula, etc…I could go on for days about how tough these defenses were combined with how relaxed the rules were in comparison to todays game. The best, and hardest, of both worlds and he ended up becoming a top 10 RB of all time.
The nfl was SO GOOD back then before the rule changes. Balanced both run/pass and offensively/defensively. Now it’s bland. Shotgun, 3WR, 1TE, 1RB. Backyard football. Defenders cannot do anything. This was peak nfl. It’s hardly watchable now.
Look at how massively that referee interfered with that first run play. I’ve said this for years, that ref camped by the linebackers is responsible for hundreds of losses for teams along the years. That is truly some amateur hour 💩 HOW DOES THIS NOT GET CALLED OUT MORE
How demoralizing must it have been in the 4th qtr to look across and see AP, after +25 touches, still bouncing around like it was the 1st qtr? His physical conditioning was ABSURD!
Ravens Ray Lewis was overrated simply you saw that when he played NFC North teams who had great running backs and quarterbacks. Brian Urlacher was better overall and played well no matter who they played. And I watch this and other good games live. The Ravens would not have been relevant in the NFC North they and Pittsburgh Steelers play them every 3 to 4 years, and most times, the NFC North had major players hurt when they (Ravens or Steelers) did defeat them.
Zechariah 7:10 And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
Just a very explosive runner. And a very hard runner. Now thats what you call a power back. A back who knows im going through the A gap and im going in top speed see if you can stop me. Most backs today seem to suffer from identity crises. They run through the a gap hard but then slow down to try to find another hole but by then its too late and they got stopped for a 1 yard gain. Or they look at the A gap and bounce out left and try to round the corner like an explosive back but already have the whole defence on them. AP never struggled with that. He knew im going in an im going in very hard and very fast. bruise that defence up all night. As for the shifty backs like barry sanders he also knew his identity. Im running but you cant catch me
Peterson had some memorable performances during this season but statistically it wasn't even his best. That was just the kind of RB he was. Hopefully he'll get his gold jacket soon!
I remember watching this game in my living room and Steve haushka or however you pronounce his name missed the game winning field goal I couldn’t believe it !!! GG though but Ravens should have won this game!!!
I used to think Ray won, maybe on scoreboard, but AP was one man taking on whole defense including Reed and other killers. AP won the ground game against Ray.
Back when football was still football. I was a halfback from 2nd grade through two seasons of college ball, AP was always my biggest inspiration. Every time he touched the ball it was with a head full of steam. GOAT
All those big hulking LBs of that time couldn't compete today. Too slow. Lewis, suggs, Urlacher and so on. Too big and slow. Blessed they played when they did.
I remember watching this game with my dad and uncle they called it the game where 2 gladiators met and went to war and back then I didn’t understand I was 11 damn I like this I wanna do that. This was one of the first NFL games I seen that wasn’t a Super Bowl too
This man gave nfl teams nightmares especially the Chicago bears! Remember the first game he had against the bears he straight up cooked us and cooked ever since. Both entertaining and was a nightmare too lol
I agree, what I've never understood about Peterson is how he went from a scat in college to an all time beast in the NFL, and make no mistake he was a motha fuckin BEAST in the NFL. College lots of times he got tackled and it looked right for his size and effort, NFL from day 1 fight like a beast until the whistle said stop.
