Installing SDR program to receive ADS-B to see aircraft information.
Download program from here:
github.com/Mal...
unzip master.zip
cd dump1090-master
make
cp dump1090 /usr/bin/
cp view1090 /usr/bin/
dump1090 --interactive
You can also set it up as a server with:
dump1090 --interactive --net --net-beast --net-ro-port 30005
Then start a client:
view1090 --net-bo-ipaddr {server IP}
Antenna is Diamond D3000N from www.strictlyham.com.au

although you can receive 1090 MHz signals just fine with a wideband discone antenna, you may find you will get far superior reception using an antenna tuned specifically for 1090. i built an 8 element colinear coaxial (coco) antenna with RG6 and doubled my reception. enjoying your videos. great work.

I use that antenna for everything though... mainly local FM radio to tell you the truth :)

I have one too for scanning mainly. I did use it for ads-b to test until I wanted to further my reach.

any link to the schematic for that specific antenna ? I tried 2-3 myself but i dont see double reception VS discone antenna

Thanks for the video. Very timely as I just purchased a HackRF for some SDR experiments. Whats the brand of the discone antenna you are using. I am interested because of the broad coverage (25mhz-3ghz) it claims. Thanks in advance. Greg N5KAB

I just bought a Raspberry pi to run Pi24 for FlightRadar24 but could I run raspbian like you and upload data to FlightRadar24, Flightaware and also use the same antenna to receive the radio transmissions from the pilots and upload that to LiveATC.net? Or would I need 2 pi's?

Hi, i am going to install ADS-B 1090MHZ antenna in my top of roof above 30 feet from ground level. Is there any problem with lightning strike. Is there anyone's antenna affected by lightning. Please help me with that. Thank you

Sure. They're both just receiving, so you can just split the antenna and feed it into two receivers.

Correction: discone antenna receive vertical signals not horizontal.

As I showed with my hands, I was saying that being an omni, it picks up signals in all directions on the horizonat plane. You are hinting at polarisation, which I'm not going to get into in this video.

If I said azimuth plane, that may have suited you more.

ADS-B is a vertical polarised signal.

Geert Pirens Never said it wasn't vertically polarised. Direction of radiation, and polarisation are two different things. I hope you haven't gone and confused anyone now from what I was simply saying is the direction in which an omni receives.
