Bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is common, found more frequently in males than females, and in some cases hereditary. Bicuspid aortic valve can be diagnosed on physical evaluations, cardiac testing, or through family screening. Disorders associated with bicuspid aortic valve are aortic stenosis, abnormal or enlarged aorta, and infection. Management of BAV includes specialized care to look for associated problems, a healthy lifestyle, and surgical valve and/or aorta replacement.
