When you’re walking down the sidewalk with your dog and another dog and person are walking towards you, the default behavior for your dog should be to ignore the other dog and person and remain focused on you. You don’t want your dog thinking they should greet or engage with every dog and person they see.
In this exercise, we practice the skill of walking past other dogs without engaging. Once your dog is good at ignoring other dogs you can start teaching them to occasionally greet other dogs or people, but only after you give them permission. Practice this exercise enough and walking down the street with your dog will be easy and carefree!
