Adult swim airs content that is primarily focused at stoner type losers that have nothing better to do than stay up all night (Myself included). These bumpers not only help to scare off kids (believe me, it works), but to also set an eerie vibe for those who are high at the time as an attempt to make their viewing experience weirder and more dreamlike. Adult Swim is truly a master at psychology which is what makes it arguably one of the only good cable networks.
I feel like they were purposefully trying to scare kids in order for them to chnage the channel. But man it does bring back memories seeing those weird and creepy bumpers
I miss they still did stuff like this, it was so much fun watching them. I wanna see shit like this again (with the added benefit of being able to be high)
For me, it was the smiling man. The face of a old man in the middle with a red background that smiled, then they stretched his smile wider very slowly with a very creepy sound in the background. Used to scare me as a kid. Can’t find it anywhere though. And is not “Face Lift”.
It's hard to overstate how much of a revelation this kind of stuff was to appear on television. It's one thing to seek this stuff out on youtube and watch it. It's another thing to have a new classic bump appear on TV, not knowing you'd be thinking about it decades later, not knowing you'd have long incorporated the original song from the bump in your music collection.
Hit right on the nail, recognizing their weird bumps of 10+ years ago still feels like yesterday. I can attest to those bumps shaping a big part of my music taste too everything on AS used to be on point
@@rubybu1lds The alarm your town could set off during a broadcast to warn about unsafe weather conditions or other various hazards. Sounds like a robotic banshee
There is one adult swim bump that scarred me as a kid. I only vaguely remember a guy with his head stuck in a rusty slimy machine that turned his head shape into a square, and I believe it also imprinted [AS] on his face as well. It was really gross and disturbing, and I haven’t seen it since
It’s kinda sad a lot of these got lost in time due too them changing them so often. That could have been the only time that bump was ever shown I wanna see it
@@PonkleWonkle oh my god that’s it. I’m 22, almost 23, years old now and I have remembered that commercial for about 12 years now. Instant trauma lmao.
That is why they are a thing. It’s to make sure that no little kids are watching so they put semi scary things in the middle of the shows so the kids would stop watching. Pretty smart if you ask me.
God I love how atmospheric they are, especially the one with the bike and the city shots. They are really creepy yet very comforting at the same time. It's really hard to explain? Like a fever dream at 3 AM or something, like how the channel is meant to be watched. It's the only time I think I've ever been comforted by something so creepy, it just feels alright. Like the channel gets you somehow through it's odd vibes and white text. It's weird.
Most of us here grew up watching these as children. Our little children brains developing, eating this content. No wonder we're all mentally ill. I enjoy.
I just found out one of the songs used in the bumps!! For the bumper with the two people on the bike, the song is the Odd Nosdam mix of Boards Of Canada's Dayvan Cowboy!
i saw this one adult swim bumper and i can’t remember it. i was half asleep and it had almost a green screen colored background with a glitch to it, and it made some really loud like demonic sound and had a screamer and i panicked and shut off my tv. never watched it alone again 😭
I can’t think of Madness Combat these days without thinking of that awesome VS. Tricky mod for Friday Night Funkin’. (I still haven’t beaten that thing on hard mode yet)
I remember i watch a bump were lady was laughing and black stuff came out of her mouth creepiest thing i saw at midnight in adultswim. Got scared straight, but stayed so i could watch futurama.
Happened to me once but it was a reddish screen with demonic sounding chants, people dancing, worst part was it was super fucking loud and it woke me up to some demonic video
I wanna watch Adult Swim so bad at some point in my life. Maybe I'll put it on this Halloween to scare the hell outta myself, haha. EDIT: 2:01 Alrighty, that certainly wasn't something I needed to see at 12:50 A.M. right before bed. . . . Love it, though.
Do it before its too late, cause Adult Swim has been slowly losing its charm since 2010 lol. And its nowhere near as much of a scare risk as it used to be either, occasionally they still come up with some weird shit but its a lot less common now
Bumpworthy.com used to be the place to go for the song sources, but the sites been kinda buggy and out of date lately. You can also check out Sithlord999 and Rymoka on RU-vid (hopefully they're still around) they had a lot of full song versions back in the day and probably still have them. Also they're indeed called bumps, they're meant to fill in extra time before and after commerical breaks between the show and ad breaks. Most channels do something like "you're watching NBC, coming up next week___" but Adult Swim had a different vibe especially back in the early 2000s-2010 era. Check out the AcTN tilt shift bumps, those were always my fave. :)
@@Krankhafter thank you this helps a lot, if there is also more to the source of these ( or just people who have uploaded these ) id love to hear more. I find the bumps very interesting and most of the songs very good
@@mannxj130 He’s referring to the guys riding the bicycle in the second bumper. They look like humanoid versions of the grunts seen in the popular NewGrounds animation series: Madness Combat, a series of flash animations made by an animator named Krinkels which stars a heroic assassin named Hank J. Wimbleton as he battles his way through an evil organization that’s trying to take over Nevada. The series recently resurged in popularity thanks to a mod for a popular NewGrounds game called Friday Night Funkin’. The mod in question is called “Vs. Tricky”, and it pits you against one of the major villains from Madness Combat: Tricky The Clown, in a 1 on 1 rap battle.
