@@kaycollarfeild usually yes, their clothes smell. Haven't you ever sat next to someone and they smelled of cigarette smoke? Obviously if you only have a cigarette when you have a glass of wine sometimes in the evening and then shower in the morning you won't smell but habitual smokers do.
@@d-meth oh I see what you mean! I smoke naked so I guess it dont stick to my clothes but my curtains probably have a smell to them 😂 I grew up around it a lot so I dont tend to really smell it unless its concentrated
Most medical facilities would fall apart without nurses. They really do hold everything together (& I say that as a consultant - I know my place in the pecking order at work... 😂).
Something I like about the medical field is that experience matters more than titles. You can't know everything and often times the person with that one vital piece of information isn't a doctor.
@@georgina-aoh for sure! blame the algorithm for my reply a year later, but my nana was a nurse practicioner and she always said the doctors write prescriptions and the nurses do the work!
@@pixelatednova7176 I wouldn't argue with that! 😂 I like to think I do a little more than that, but it's definitely a fair description of about 85% of my profession, sadly...
That being said, a two year old made the news a few years ago because they were addicted to smoking, it was such a big international blow up that the government got embarrassed and paid for him to go through smoking cessation treatment. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_te6dLVeqa8.html
For kids, the history should include if parents or other guardians smoke, right? I remember my mom was always asked about that when she took us to the pediatrician.
@@yayciencia I think the question should be whether those people smoke indoors. Very few people smoke indoors nowadays. Which is great, less stinky walls, furniture and second hand smoke.
@@yayciencia nah, they ask if anyone else in the house smokes and whether they do it around you or inside of the house. they only ask about second hand smoke. i didn’t start getting asked if i drank or smoked until 13 i think.
I work with animals and I definitely ask them questions as if I'm expecting an answer in English. I also try to reason with them when they're not cooperating.
This I relate to so much! I’ll have a very angry and hormonal cow charging me while huffing and I’m like,”hey lady it’s not MY fault that you needed the tummy meds in that tube I ran into your stomach. Get angry at the big guy in charge.” 🤷♀️😂😂

I'm a Pediatrics resident who moonlighted for a month between training. I'd get awkward interviewing adult patients. Give me a crying, screaming infant anytime. 😅😅😅
I had a pediatric doctor that had to fire me whenever I was 23. It was a very emotional goodbye. This woman saved My Life many of times. She was like my dear you have to have an adult doctor. I was like no I don't I mean you're an adult you can figure it out. She said so are you I said I don't feel like it. I live on my own and I pay my bills but. I'm not ready to get rid of my pediatrician. Hahahahaaaaaaaaaa 😂 I'm va XX reactive and been hospitalized twice. No joke this woman really saved my life. Her name was Dr Rojas. One of the best doctors out there still to this day. No One compares to her. Absolutely no one.
His heart rate comment gave me a flashback to the time I took my toddler to the ER I came back from filling out paperwork to find her hooked up to a heart monitor I commented that the blip blips looked (to me) just like the blips you see on TV doctor shows The response was “yes, but the rate should be about twice as fast” Apparently a toddler with a heart rate of 75 isn’t a good thing
The day after I gave birth there was a huge blizzard and the peds docs weren’t able to make it to the hospital. The ortho physicians who were already at the hospital had to give a checkup to my baby, and it was so funny to see “ummmm, I think his color looks good?” 😂
APGAR score. Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity and Respiration. Each category can range in score from 0 (completely unhealthy) to 2 (completely healthy). Doctors rate people on a 0-10 scale at birth, y'all!
Personally, I really disliked moving from pediatrics to adult. Everyone is so much more terse and in a hurry. There are no more whimsical band-aids. All the other patients are just old and smell funny while waiting in the lobby. And the worst part? No juice box. Yeah. Okay. So I'm an adult. That doesn't mean I can't appreciate a juice box.
Funny thing every military hospital i got a shot at has had the whimsical band aids as there is nothing like having the doc put a my sponge Bob band aids on you well in uniform
I have a friend who's a pediatrician long story cut short he was giving the covid vaccines in the hospital ( adults of course) he went to this middle aged women and asked her what her favourite colour is while giving the injection in a tone you'd use for children ( really really small children)Yeah the lady looked at him weird and went like I'm a full grown adult. The poor guy stood there all embarrassed the whole day.
I'm twenty and still get to see pediatrics for my chronic health conditions and tbh I love when they ask small questions like that while they give shots or even just getting vitals. Some still offer stickers and hey after getting poked and prodded I earned that sticker of SpongeBob! It sucks once your "adult" aged they pull back on the helpful stress relieving interactions. I had to go to adult er once and I ended up one of those patients the used in training because I didn't understand what I agreed to since I was alone and really ill and now I dread the day I age out of my normal docs.
I'm in my 20s and the doc treated me like a kid, telling me it's just take a sec and distracting me and I...really appreciated it?? It's been years since I got a shot and while I didn't care much as a kid, I was nervous about it as an adult XD
At the very beginning of Covid, when resources needed to be found anywhere, pediatricians were also seeing adult patients in my country for a short while and i remember there were some memes "what do you mean dosage is not in mg/kg???", "where are their parents???" xD Also i remember a few years ago i went back to adult hospital care after working for months in pediatrics, and when i had to administer metamizole to a patient i asked my coworker nurse "wait, the whole vial??”
These videos explain a lot. Now I see why doctors respond with answers that make me think they may have a drinking problem...it's just not their area but they are trying
When he looks at the nurse for affirmation and the way the nurse nods in response. This is GOLD. Brings back memories when I went to the hospital, can relate.
I had a doctor grab a large size adult blood pressure cuff with the intention of putting it on my 6lb newborn...yeah that was an awkward exchange of glances...
Ya know I wondered that too...until she had to leave the room to "consult the pediatrician" on several other basic things (like baby acne, how to check the spot on the head, and didn't know how to check the hips). She was very nervous the whole time. We ended up switching to a pediatrician. She was a general family practitioner but I think she had only seen adults before.
@@BirdieMamaBoutique Yeah usually all doctors learn how to treat children too but when it comes to kids they're often worried about doing something wrong. She probably learned how to check their hips but didn't feel confident enough to do it without consulting the pediatrician.
My favorite is when the residents finish their peds rotation and come over to adult land. Doc this guys 6 foot, 300 pounds and puking his guts up. 1mg of ondanstron is NOT going to work. No 100mg of tylenol is also not appropriate
I had such a shock when I went to paediatrics to help out for a shift from maternity. I was so surprised when a kid in a cot sat up and asked me for a drink! They were still 'baby' sized and they were talking to me! Not full sentences, but I understood!
My oldest refused to speak until she was ready at 13 months and my younger 2 wouldn't stop babbling by the time they were 15 months old because I talked to them and expected answers lol
I really appreciate doctors but I totally have had one of theses moments. I was trying to get them to change a medicine because it was so much (20 ml for one dose... it was torture) he was just vomiting it up. The very nice doctor was like “it’s cherry, kids love cherry”... my 3 week old baby doesn’t give a flip if it’s cherry!!!
My first neurologist was an adult's neurologist. Once I had a seizure and my parents called them and he literally asked if I, a thirteen year old child, from a pair of overprotective parents with a religious background, had gotten pregnant. also, every time that I went for a checkup, he ended up with "remember to not smoke". He was absolutely serious.
@@jatnarivas8741 I don't think you got what i said. He knew i was from a religious background and with overprotective parents. Thats why it would've made no sense for me to smoke. And i wasnt even a teen yet, just a little religious scared preteen.
You would be amazed what some kids get up to with overprotective and heavily religious parents. That doesn’t prevent everyone from smoking, drinking, doing other drugs, or having sex.
@@eelwithheelsif you get a period you can get pregnant regardless of how overprotective or religious your parents are... And unless you're chaperoned whenever leaving the house - you can definitely get cigarettes ... and pregnant. It's cute that you're this naive still but you might want to start being exposed to the real world or you're going to get eaten alive kiddo...
@@eelwithheels the religious background and overprotective parents don't change those questions. Being religious doesn't stop someone from doing those things.
I feel you, because I have the opposite. Currently a teacher's assistant/para in a middle school setting, studying for elementary ed. I was doing my internship and a kid came over to me to tell me her tooth was loose and I, someone who usually knows what to do in any situation, was just so caught off guard I was like "ummm... Can you ask your teacher because I don't know what the procedure is for that at this school..."
@@boringperson-zb8vy[sorry for randomly rambling a lot 😅] my mom's a pretty heavy smoker, I don't what she said about before pregnancy (if she did tell me), but she (and I'm pretty sure her friend, and some other family members) did say that she didn't smoke until after I was born ....2nd hand smoke is still bad enough for me to not want to smoke tho..like it's improved, but before, I swear she had like at least one cigarette everytime she went somewhere [go across the street/driving], and at least once after a meal [and sometimes it's so awkward when we're eating out alone and she just decides to leave to take a smoke, and Idk whether I should eat more quickly or more slowly while staring at her through the window], and probably whenever she had a break when working/doing anything. She kinda quit for a while;; she went to vapours for a longer while;; I think she definitely smokes a lot less (for starters her and her room doesn't smell like smoke if I just randomly decide to open the door) Idk if it actually helped but I was always like "your mom literally says you smoke too much, I'm not the only one who says this" (I used the 'respect/obey your parents' card a lot especially if she brought it up;; but srsly, you can't tell me " *I* listen to my parents all the time" when you're literally not doing that and expect me to listen)
@@boringperson-zb8vy a person dear to me almost did. Pre eclampsia/Eclampsia. She had been to doctor the week before and BP etc was done. We saw her one day and she had a little swelling. Next day-BAM’ It came on so fast! It was only caught by her school nurse b/c of the swelling and serious fatigue. She went to a local hospital and they started her on steroids and mag. They wanted fly air -lift her on to a tertiary care place...but it was sleeting so they took her on the ground They were able to get it down enough so she could have my God Daughter two days later (they got it under control so they could jumpstart the baby’s lungs). The little one is 5 years old and tough now, though! Perfectly happy! She got lucky. Had she majored in something else...and had another job...the outcome could have been so much different.
@@boringperson-zb8vy yeah, and I have multiple friends who are adamant that "smoking withdrawal is worse for the baby than to smoke less" and it makes me ANGRY. They are incapable of stopping their "habit" (as they also refuse to call it what it is, a severe addiction) and therefore let the baby suffer and justify it with some delusion in their heads... I just hope they don't get babies as long as they don't smarten up a bit and rearrange their smoking priorities.
Ever since I became an adult I stopped getting lollipops as a reward for going to the doctors. I’m 23 now and I still would love a lollipop 🍭. I just buy them myself now, but my dentist isn’t happy with me so I have to give them to my nieces. 😭
Smoking patients literally it goes like this half of the time: Me (looking at patient with obvious signs of being a smoker): "so how much would you say you smoke a day" Patient ( looking at me with a puppy face:" oh I don't smoke Me(starting to question my sense of smell and eyesight):" oh ok Patient ( with a proud look on his face): "yeah I stoped two weeks ago" Me( not worrying so much anymore about going insane, but now even more worried about the patient, looking this bad even after 2 weeks, still keeping up a smile): oh congrats that's great. Now let's do that check up shall we"
As a young Navy Corpsman I suddenly found myself in peds for 2 very long, very confusing days while they went to training. Give me a GSW or blunt force trauma any day over peds.
I remember when my doctor asked if I did drugs, drank, or smoked. I said "my mother would beat me if I did" and the doctor said "don't worry, you'd be suprised how many kids say yes to that question"
🤣 Sometimes when I take my kids for medical treatment I have to wonder, have these drs/dentists even MET a child before? Surely at least a few memories remain of having been a child??? It's either treating them like an inanimate object and just grabbing and poking with no explanation, or it's baby talk, "YOU are a big girl! Yes you are!" Which is not great, as the first one is scary for my children and the second is insulting. Of course, there are also the good ones. Friendly explanation and a tiny bit of conversation works wonders.
Yeah, though unfortunately some pediatricians don't understand that 5 year olds and 15 year olds, despite both being children, are very different. I had a very condescending pediatrician who talked to all patients like they are 5. Which is real fun when you are 15. Unfortunately my parents loved her "because she listens really well". Yeah, to you, not to the patient.
"You're about half my size, so I'm gonna give you half the adult dose... Or the full adult dose for half the number of days?" Why not make it simpler? Take three times the adult dose, but only take it once.
It’s fascinating watching this after watching Dr. Glaucomaflecken and his videos on pediatrics. And like WOW, Pediatrics is ROUGH! they don’t get nearly enough praise or recognition for how hard that field is, and pediatric doctors/nurses/everyone is always so insanely nice and kind and funny. Golden retrievers of the medicine world.
"And he doesn't smoke, right?" Well, you could ask. I saw a video of a Toddler who would smoke a pack a day. It was in a different country. But, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened here too.
I LOVE that you ALWAYS make the nurse the one who has to school the Doctors. My grandma would've loved your videos As she was a nurse. Back when nurses had to wear all white and a" good nurse" always had sharp needles in her kit , and kept her needles and glass syringes STERILE for her patients! ( she was fascinated when disposable 1 time use needles came into the hospitals) Thanks for fun content! Much ♥️& 🌴🌺Aloha🌺🌴
There's a certain office around here that is known for confusion. The joke is that if you go there the first question they will ask you is "are you pregnant?" regardless of your gender.

I once took my nephew (3 at the time) to a on call doctor for an emergency. The kid was fine, he just needed some antibiotics. The doctor wasnt a pediatrician, but he fully realised that and made kind of a gag out of it (his two assistants were both er nurses and they had a pharmacist). He talked to my nephew as if he were an adult and entertained him. I never saw an older gentleman ask a toddler "Do you drink alcohol?" With a straight face before and the three year old asking "Whats alcohol?". 10/10 based doctor would visit again.
