I miss my last Hospitalist, she was a prior Nurse who went back to school to be a MD. She was always so nice and would always make sure to call after report and if it was running long she'd just come up to the floor and wait for it to be over. She also protected "her" Nurses from "big head" Doctors and went to bat several times for us over census. Hope she's doing well.

I'm a new nurse and once during shift change when we're doing report a physician called wanting an update on a patient's progress and then gave me a list of orders to enter. He had just done the same to another who then passed the phone to me. Then he came to the floor himself to check the guy and i was giving report on that guy to day nurse in the room. Still had to enter the orders myself.... After calling the imaging department so i could enter the order correctly. And the guy in the imaging department said that doctor was new and did things backwards. That was a stressful shift change.

I have a question (about an ECG). What would cause "poor R wave progression" to randomly disappear (and go back to normal)? This patient has had *dozens* of ECGs that showed "poor R wave progression" in leads v1-v3. Yesterday, it went back to normal. What would cause a reversal on that? (going back to normal)

or or OR! instead of acting high and mighty, if a doctor would also love to be a part of the team and hear report alongside the incoming nurse you let them. this skit sums up the issue with nursing culture perfectly. nurses say “i’ll talk to you when i’m finished” or something like that but when they need the doctor they’ll call repeatedly until they get an answer. cuz god forbid the doctor isn’t immediately available 24/7

The hours I have spent battling first year residents that my patient with 2+ pitting edema and an EF of 10% doesn’t need fluids. I feel like I’m a pretty reasonable person overall but this gets me so riled up 😳.

Love thorough nurses. They're the best and I'm GONNA be one. I'm an emergency nurse. A year in the field. I love it , it's everything but lately i find that stepping into the hospital gives me palpitations. Limited resources , critically ill patients coming in , not being able to do most of what you and the doctors know need to be done. Practicing healthcare is psychologically demanding enough, in a 3rd world country, its brutal. And it's so sad and pathetic that youtube is where i can share these thoughts . Love your content by the way

My heart goes out to you with the palpitations upon arriving at work. I am a nurse too and for years suffered with anxiety about not being enough for my patients. A lot of nurses experience this in one form or another. Please know that we all do the best we can with the knowledge and resources we have and the best thing you can do is take a deep breath and try to be present for each patient as you see them. Take really good care of yourself and stay safe.

I’m an emergency nurse as well and I totally feel you, some days it feels like it’s never enough. I promise you that giving your all in a shift is absolutely enough. Sorry to say that It is wronge to sparet Medical & nursing care delivery and receipt of the pt status report system. Because both of them complete each other. And u can simply say: I am going to check on that pt at that room if any need me I am there. Do not wait the nurse to ask the pt. Specaily if he/she in reporting status, they will get lose and forget wt you asked for. So please next time just report where the pt and where u will be. And go ask the pt ur self. Nothing wronge in that. And imadiatly the nurse will follow u. To check if u need any help.

You're young doctor. y doctor said to take probiotics, you said no. My doctor gives me Xanax for my nerves and you said no . You are a GI Doctor . You have a lot to learn but you are entertaining
@catmomster
@catmomster 2 года назад
Xanax is one of the worst drugs on the planet. I'm a nurse and if he said don't take it, he's on target. It's one of the most addictive, like Valium and has a long half life so it stays in your system a long time. It's a poor choice for a benzodiazapine. Better options. I've been a nurse for 35+ years, Dr Schmitt is young but one of the smartest of residents, fellows, I've been around. In this case, watching his videos should tell you how knowledgeable he is. The residents and fellows are young. You better be glad they are. They retain great, they're very interested in learning, and up on the latest practices of medicine. I worked in a teaching hospital. 99% of the residents and fellows are smart as can be and do not think they know it all. Smart ones listen to nurses for direction and details sometimes. Teaching hospitals are the best. Nothing beats having a House Staff there 24/7 and the opportunity to contact a resident or fellow in the middle of the night who will join the nurse to work on a problem together. They usually bring help, too. Dr Schmitt is brilliant. I would take him for my GI Dr in a heartbeat. He's great. And will be even greater as he learns more. If you think because he is GI, he can't recommend medications for issues other than just GI, you might want to watch more of his videos and especially the teaching ones he does. Remember, Dr Schmitt already has 3 yrs of internal medicine behind him before he started his GI fellowship.
