Doing asset inventory or stock room inventory requires confirming against a master list. Using Scan to Spreadsheet, you can scan barcodes to conduct inventory. When finished, use the Vertical Lookup or VLOOKUP function in your spreadsheet software to confirm matches and highlight the assets that were not scanned.

Save the asset list as import.csv
Import into Scan to Spreadsheet
2. Set the validation to Error when NOT in list
3. Create a new spreadsheet named Assets
4. Start scanning
5. When you scan a barcode that is not in the asset list
Save - saves immediately, you may continue scanning
Review - You can remove it or add a note when saving.
6. Finished, email the spreadsheet or share directly to Google Drive
7. Open Assets.csv
8. Copy the list of asset numbers to the main asset spreadsheet,
9. Paste in a different tab
10. Highlight the list of scanned serial numbers/asset tags
11. Right click and select Defined Named Range
12. Give the range a name of ASSETS
13. Click Done.
14. Open the main Assets listing
15. In the On Hand column, create a VLOOKUP
16. =VLOOKUP(A2, ASSETS, 1, FALSE)
A2 - the column with the original asset number
ASSETS - the named range from the scanned asset tags
1 - Column index we are searching, this is 1 to 1
FALSE - We want exact matches
17. Copy the VLOOKUP in the same column for all rows
