Good information! I don't think that the devs intended for pipes to be utilized in this manner (I'm talking about increasing their throughput, not the spaghetti mess), but it works.

Yummy pipe-spaghetti. If you cook them longer than the content creator they might look much nicer! (no taste guarantees)

they indeed intended that thats the physics behind liquids

you've always been able to manifold pipes as long as you math out whats being used by machines. pumps work as back flow

i find a better ratio is 6:1 coal to water gen. completely overlocked a water pump will fill a mark 1 pipe completely and fill 6 generators and change. added to that a mk.1 blueprint platform will fit 3 generators and the logistics for them so a 6 gen 'tile' is simply a matter of 2 blueprints, a water pump and connecting the pipe and belt. also a mk.3 belt holds 270 coal. 270 \ 15 coal per minute per gen = 18 which again splits perfectly in 3 tiles of 6

I'd only do that if you have very little water available. Between the exponential power increase and the 3 slugs requirement per extractor, I don't think this approach is worth it. Keep it 3:1, save the slugs for more complicated processes that actually need fine tuning in the later game.

I do 4 water pumps for 8 coal gens and under clock them to 75% or 90 water per min. When overclocking the power use scales badly and so you end up using a good chunk of the power you generate to power the water. it's completely the wrong way to go unless space is limited and you cant easily place the water pumps. even then running power lines is easy as eating pancakes so you can just setup the coal gensets near the ocean and the nodes then run the power lines back to base.

I've always found the best way to be be: 3 pumps, 1 water pump coming in on each end and then 1 injected in the middle.

the pipes work like belts in terms of capacity so this type of setup works yes.

Unlike belts, balancing pipes isn't very important. In my testing, you can do an endless horizontal run of pipes in series with no downside, as long as you completely fill the pipe before you start splitting it. Otherwise it might take a while for the fluid to make its way down the line while filling everything on the way.

@@evanneff7776 balancing belts isn't important either. The manifold is far superior in every situation with no down side. Some people will say it takes time to saturate the belt line but thats really no concern as nothing needs to happen fast in this game and if you're like me I preload my manifolds before activating the out puts. so max maybe 10 mins to prep a line and save SOOOOO much space vs balance setups.

I've had too many headaches with lines starving themselves over the years to do that. It only takes one more tiles to put in parallel splitters and you can ensure that every single machine is getting what it needs or more at any given time. 4 contructors in series means that the 4th split is only giving the constructor 15/m if y ou're feeding it 120/m. Great if you're making rods, but now anything beyond 4 is getting single digit feed. Putting in pre splitters means each line is getting exactly 30 with only one extra splitter.

@@evanneff7776 umm what? the manifold doesn't starve if you do the basic math correctly.
