What an informative video! That's identical to the 1960's turntable in my Zenith stereo. Any way to contact you via e-mail...I was disassembling mine and can't remove the cam gear...it moves very freely, but it won't come out. I tried heating it, but no success. Also, a part fell out and I have no idea where it goes...could you assist? Thanks!

hey I need your help! I got a GE portable automatic record changer here that the overarm is all floppy side to side and doesn't stay in a fixed position when it is down like it is supose to. In addition to this I need to shift it waaay to the right in order for it to stay in it's upper locked position, as-in right above the tonearm rest. I have already had the player appart to regrease it and fix the idler. I have a feeling someone forced something at some point, this is the changer with the (F) shaped overarm if that makes a difference at all. I already have a feeling whatever is out of wack is what is causing the automatic mode to malfunction. The machine works fine on manual but when you engage auto with a stack of records you need to manually tell the player to return arm and drop the next record by engaging reject. I had to add ziptie spacers in the shaft of the overarm to prevent the arm from coming down violently, and bumping the tonearm, scratching records in the process! It does that by it self, once I think the arm is down it will hammer down on it's shaft, bumping the back of the tonearm. I really would like to fix it the right way if possible! I didn't see any broken pieces inside

Thanks for making this video. It is a huge help in getting the V-M I have back into working condition. Do you have any info on the power connection? I am going to power my V-M a1296 directly instead of from the receiver unit. I understand the AC switch can use a cord plugged into the wall using the 4 prong connector on the other end. I just can't figure out which pins the wires are supposed to connect to.

I recently served one. A complete oxidized mess to the mechanism subject to moisture. The cam gear and speed selector frozen but strange to me the idle tire was hard as plastic.

Thank you for these helpful videos! I have several Motorola consoles and watched this 3 part video many times to get into one of my changers. I was successful until I went all the way and removed the tone arm. When the record ends the tone arm slides back a little across it before lifting up. Any thought on where to recheck would be great, I took lots of pics and am not sure what I changed. Thanks again, I appreciate you sharing all these projects!

Hi Jordan. It’s a long shot if this message will reach you since this video was uploaded a few years ago. These videos have been of so much help while refurbishing my own zenith stereo console. It has an identical turntable. Would you have any clue how to fix a turntable that doesn’t begin the cycle automatically? I can tell that the little trip pawl on the main cam gear is not engaging with the turntable since I can only get it to cycle by moving the gear by hand to engage it. However, the cycle will begin when I use the reject option on the dial. What gives? The pawl is free moving and lubricated. I have a version with plastic parts, not the brass type. Is there supposed to be tension on it, or is there something that isn’t pushing it out when I turn the record player on? If you have any idea, I’d love to hear it

I use lighter fluid to dissolove tough grease. it has less odor than liquid wrench

Help please!! I have a Columbia 360 which is a VM mechanism. I completely took everything apart, cleaned and lubed and oiled what needs to be. The speed is good, I stacked several records on the changer and they dropped and played as normal. When the last record dropped though, as soon as the needle touched the record, the player shut off. I turned the player back on and it plays fine. After the record finished, the arm returned and shut off like it should. I’m lost. I went through the manual troubleshooting suggestions for the turntable shutting off after the last record drops but non of the suggestions helped. Any ideas? Thanks Dave

I've never taken one down this far before but my friend did/ Now, I'ev lost 3 of those damn springs you showed as an afterthought with no idean on how it install it. and also have 4 machines without that spring now. Bad F*#$^%. day.

I've used easy off on transmission never had a problem ever....

Never remove that plastic switch. They break apart and you will need to order a replacement from VOM. You were warned :)
