there is an another trick that i discovered and posted it on my channel its an animation cancel for the sword that combine primary attack and the lunge
such a great, no nonsense guide. i've been loving the Dash + Sword and I'm embarrased I didnt even know there was a lunge technique! Thanks for the tips man! Subbed!
I tested as much as I could recently for techs regarding all melee weapons. It's good to see others are also working them out. I'll make a quick note that may help some people getting the Evasive Dash timing down. The Sword swish sound is what you want to play around, beyond that you will miss the window and dash without doing damage to a target. For Dagger, the timing is much more precise. Dash when you raise the blade and it disappears from your screen, if you wait you will miss the damage frames. Obviously Cloak is more likely what you will be using with a Dagger, but if you don't miss the "Evasive Dash Backstab into Quick Melee" you can one shot anyone from a distance. "Heavy Attack, Dagger raises, Dash, Strike (my word for the moment of contact), Quick Melee" will kill most people. I say most because I don't know if a Medium can heal through the Backstab+Quick Melee combo. Backstab+Quick Melee will delete a full HP Heavy. Also, one more note to make. In CQC Quick Melee has a short lunge, the lunge on Heavy Attack/Backstab for Dagger is at least twice the distance of Quick Melee's lunge. Figured not everyone knows that. Useful info if you're behind someone and want to close the distance. I figure also it's helpful to mention the Evasive Dash Dagger tech because the timing is the opposite of the Sword visually. When you dash with the Sword you see it stab, if your Dagger stabs in front of you while hitting your dash input, you just missed the timing.
I could do a quick video on that, right now I'm taking a break from the Finals because the cheater situation and controller aim assist is out of control and its been killing my desire to play the game.
first technique is dead angling used a lot in ghostrunner pretty much all tricks u learn from ghostrunner speedrunning and sword play can translate to other games and is a complete game changer
The technique is found in a lot of games but goes by different names. In Jedi Academy(the first major sword based game I played) the lightsaber is actively aimed with your mouse in combination with your swings so we didn't even have a name for it. I know of dead angling from Dark Souls 1 but in Jedi Academy we named it poking and the mechanics were a bit different.
These were some amazing, amazing tips. I’ve already known about some of them, and I’m not sure I can adequately apply all of them because I play on Xbox, but still. Awesome tips and your presented them really well
I swear there was a game that had a sword just like this 🤷♂️ idk but whenever I started using it in beta it just felt right, I somehow knew about the active frames already and was able to use it with the dash and lunge. Favorite weapon by far, and my most efficient.
If anyone knows of a game that was first person with a dashing sword that had a lingering hitbox let me know Edit: narrowed it down, dirty bomb, sea of thieves and every chivalry-like game. Maybe it was a combination of all of them? Idk I just feel like I’ve used this sword in a game somewhere before Edit 2: maybe a little demoknight from tf2? I have no idea
Hey, very nice video! Thanks for that. Could you also show your key layout? E.g. I find it hard to make the combo when my normal hit is on the button "V". Maybe you have a suggestion here.
its also aggravating to get sniped, honestly why can't melee and guns coexist? yes it's annoying to get killed by a different weapon type, but you have to learn to not make a big deal out of it
I've gotten up to 11 kill games playing sword and Cloak but this actually taught me a ton I didnt know and explains why I was failing to get kills sometimes too. ty
I think they are a little busy with double c4 barrel cringe, double barrel shotgun, rpgs, double medium + heavy / double heavy + medium teams and all the other broken stuff in the game.
I knew it existed had no idea it did more dmg. Ill have to work that lunge into my hit and run style i usually just dash at ppl kill them or weaken them for allies and speed off. Then come back around and do it again while theyre looking for me. I can get a few more kills utilizing the lunge
I'm reviewing all the melee weapons right now to see any tricks they may have since they have a lot more depth then most of the guns in the game. Most of the techniques I used in this video can also be used with the dagger with the exclusion of the lunge techniques since the Dagger doesn't have a lunge.
I'll definitely take the sledge hammer onto the test range and see if there are any similarities with the sword or other techniques I can find with the hammer.
Love the guide and the tips, but personally I cant use the evasive dash. The cloak provides such a huge safety net and i just cant live without it. when I use the cloak i can get pretty consistent high score games
Back in the day when I was playing overwatch I used to main genji and we always had mele after dash or mele after shruken thing and I always wondered if I can implement it on this game too and seeing you combo lunge with mele kinda remembered me that
I've got some clips saved but I've been dealing with so many cheaters and controller aim assist that its been killing my desire to play the game. All my friends also stopped playing because they couldn't stand it so now I have no one to play with.
There were a few things I learned on my own, and you definetly taught me some more with this! I've normally hopped out of slide and charged a right-click in the air to not lose momentum and THEN release, but charging during a slide saves some time for when it needs to be faster thats awesome. Biggest takeaway is the quick-swap out of lunge to cancel the lag, THAT is huge. Lunge cancel into slice into QM to kill a medium should be very very fast, I'll time myself and see how fast I can get it. Also double lunge + 2 QM wasn't something I considered for taking down heavies, I kinda disregarded the usefulness of QM when going against heavy since it wasn't a finisher but as free animation cancel its awesome. I personally really enjoy grapple with sword, lets me get up to some bhop lunge shenanigans that the other specs can't support. Dash is probably a better all-rounder, but the fun of grappling is too much. Great video!
It is theoretically possible but its very difficult to pull off because the hitbox for a back stab is incredibly finicky. If your even slightly off to the side it won't register a backstab.
Being able to essentially one shot lights and two shot mediums seems kinda broken to me. I feel like they're gonna nerf the sword eventually. But until then, I'll definitely be using the strategies that you showed in thos video lol
thanks for the guide it has a lot of good tips. i knew a lot of the stuff in here already but was unaware that lunge could be canceled with gadget swaps. i should be able to burst mediums better now with that tip.
Great vid. Pretty much sums up everything I found out on my own. One new thing was the slide thrust. I hadn’t tried to right click AFTER sliding. I only tried sliding after right clicking. It’s crazy that you can slide and it doesn’t cancel the forward momentum of the thrust.
I've been trying to collect clips and wanted to stream but the cheaters and aim assist have been ruining the game for me an my friends. No one wants to play the game right now.
Right now the game is brand new so balancing is all over the place. The sword can be good but its overshadowed by really broken things like the double barrel shotgun which can two tap a heavy.
If you utilize the slide lounge technique I showed in the video you can have the benefits of high mobility and invisibility from the cloak. I love the cloak, especially on throwing knives I just find the evasive dash allows for some crazy techniques that you can't get with the cloak.
I've made it my goal to master the sword into higher level play, to the point it is as viable as any other build. I wasn't aware the pull out animation could save you some time! I'm still trying to find the best possible build for running a sword. My first guess is changing the breaking point of the sword by grenades. The second idea was using thermal vision and staying inside smoked areas, but I found the smoke to not be very effective at hiding. The third one was to run vanish bomb as a cloak alternative which is extremely useful to fill the gap having dash does. The very last thing is, I've discovered grapple has a weird interaction with the sword dash, where it will stay attached to the ground for the max time a grapple would be activated, no matter if you passed the original grapple point, which could make you do 360 spins in a circle which could be useful? If anyone has build ideas or team strats for the sword, let me know.
I use grapple, sword , goo nade, frag nade, and the vision, tbh the vision isn't all that useful and it bugs sometimes and just makes your screen black, I would probably use stun gun instead of heat vision.
The vanish bomb can be pretty useful for cloaking when you need to escape or get close to a team before ambushing them. Goo Grenade can allow you to block line of sight against people with guns when you are out of range and has other uses like blocking doorways, getting revives or knocking the cashout box to prevent a steal. Stun gun is very powerful because you can stun people and make it so they can't move as fast, most high level light players I see run the stun gun. Glitch grenade is great for dealing with teams who fortify the objective with turrets / bubble shields / mesh shields etc. There is a fair amount of variability in what gadgets you run with sword.
It doesn't seem like turning your camera adjusts the speed of the hit, but it's really hard to tell when you don't compare back and forth and talk in-between.
Testing in the range myself, I really can't tell the difference. Even full swing when the enemy is on the opposite side from where you swing the sword seems to be the same speed. I'd have to break it down frame by frame to really see, but honestly this could be one of those things people never actually collected real data for and just assume. It is not obviously faster.
Could you make a video on heavy sledgehammer? The ani canceling isnt as good but you might find something I didn't, the wide swing plus quick melee kills lights btw
Hey money Man this may sound odd but sadly I'm under spiritual attack I was watching your video cuz I was thinking about playing the finals in the future and the enemy had placed a spiritual turd a piece of s*** on your sword so I just wanted to let you know. Sorry I couldn't stop the attack. Moneyman, Report... Report... Report....
I would but I haven't really found any special techniques with the dagger yet. Basically all the same things I can do in this video except the lunge techniques apply. I'll look more in depth into it.
@@Mon3yman228 alright no rush :) Personally im waiting for an update to the game before I jump back into it. The performance and. Balancing between the weapons is just so off to me right now
Quick note, at 1:25 what you're describing is an "accel" attack, which does not exist in games that use bounding boxes for their melee hit reg, which the finals does. It doesn't matter what position the sword is, what matters is weather your target is inside the bounding box on the initial activation. So directional attacks do not make a difference in the finals, you would see this technique along with "dragging" in games like Chivalry or Mordhau.
Great tips this is a super useful guide. Only other thing I'd mention is gadgets that go well with sword like vanishing bomb which is basically cloak on a cooldown. I also run smoke and thermal vision which really helps on objectives where its hard to play around without getting beamed by a full team
