Since it's clear that you record these each day of advent, and not all at once, if you ever go back to using a loser calendar, a whiskey advent calendar would be great, as you would get to enjoy a nice taste of whiskey each day of advent! Nothing could go wrong at all with this idea!
@@TheLeonie2 - You would be, if they'd made it like the sides. But, as I mentioned, the 5th side (bottom) is solid, so it would just block the light (and get really hot if you used a real candle).
@@Buretsu - Photons don't stop after a set distance, what you see on RU-vid depends on the camera's sensitivity and settings. A candle can definitely light a normal room well enough for a normal human to see the ceiling.
Yeah, was kinda disappointed this year. It wasn't as samey as the Funk Pop one....but at the same time, 90 % of items in both were just pin badges or cardboard. The Dr. Who one basically only had about 2-3 actual items (not badges) that are tied into the show in any way other than having a picture of it on the front, I am looking at you glasses bag. Stuff like K 9 or the Sontaran Egg Cup. But so much of this was on the level of "cheap pencil sharpener but with a picture on the top" it wasn't funny, ESPECIALLY for the price. It makes me feel a bit bad for Stuart and Dan, since they were just saddled with a load of mediocrity for most of this "series"/"season".
Honestly, for the price I'd have been more interested in 24 pin badges than most of what we'd got. It would still feel like a ripoff for £110, but it would be less disappointing.
The main thing holding these calenders back was the funko character designs. If they actually included detail, I would have been happy getting most of the days from these. Also only like 1 day with a badge, and no posters would have been a massive improvement
Imagine if the Star Trek pins were in the art style of the 70s Star Trek animated series? I think I'd like that. The Doctor Who ones wouldn't even need to be enameled, just a nice metal pin with etched lines would be fine. Just no bloody funko super-deformed styles!
See, I like getting a Funko Pop for movies and shows I like. It's a simple little minimalist collectible design. But the problem is everyone mimicking that design (and Funko themselves using it for other merch) and it wasn't all that great to begin with. The nicest part of Pops is that all of the figures thematically match across shows and movies, all with the same design-style, even if it's a mediocre one.
I really enjoyed this year's match up. I almost bought my partner the Star Trek calendar but decided against it and it was fun to experience it while also having dodged a bullet. I wouldn't mind if you continued doing these "higher quality" calendars, but if you brought back the forfeit calendar too it would be perfect in my book.
In terms of the stuff IN the calendar, sure, but that's the deal with advent calendars. You aren't really just paying for the items. You're buying into a bit of excitement each morning. I mean, considering the cheap and nasty chocolate in most calendars, I doubt they're worth even a quarter what they're priced at. It's the kind of chocolate that can only be called so by the finest technicalities of the law. That said, you buy a premium calendar like this, you kind of expect nice things each morning. Still, there's no calendar sadder than the Pensioner's Breakfast one they did a couple of years back.
Yeah, calendars are pretty overpriced, and the maker of them may have had to pay quite a lot for the rights and also the custom art, which doesn't help
@@NoobixCube Correction: You're buying into a bit of disappointment each morning. They are overpriced trash bags and you'll either trash or lose everything that comes out of the box within weeks maybe months. Except maybe the coasters.
personally I'd rather have the tealight holder than the doctor who coasters, but that's me. Either way, I think we can conclude neither of these calenders were actually worth their price tag😂
i dont think dan should have won this personally. the coasters had the same exact art that he got on little posters but with part of it cropped to make square coasters. the borg cube tea light holder was at least a unique thing between the two calendars
I'm disappointed Dan won, just because I want to see Ashens win one of these for a change. Also, Ashens' calender had more stuff I'd want even though I'm not a Star Trek fan. HOWEVER! Those Doctor Who coasters are fucking great
I GENUINELY gasped when I saw that Cube candle holder. I thought it was gonna be MUCH larger! That's the size of the regular fucking Cube issue from the Ship collection! What a gip!
oh god. all the grass masks disappeared when the lights turned off! now i have to wait another year before the next advent. Please continue the advent calendars! your videos are always better than my actual advent calendar which is usually just a little ball of chocolate every day.
The Tardis box needs a blue LED in the top with a remote that looks like Tardis key/sonic screwdriver. Totally the best episode/series yet. Only another 341 days to go! 🤣
Really feel like Stuart should've won today, because I loved his tealight cube and I'm not even a Trekkie. It says a lot that he could get something so neat that wins over a non-fan.
Looks like Stuart is gonna have a blast tomorrow with those 5 packs of "Pogs"...unless they're really "Grass Masks", and I have a feeling they will be.
It was a genuinely cool to have a bit of my art show up on the Tat Cam. Glad the coasters won! I didn't even know they were in the Advent until the morning of the 24th.
‘City of Death’ was one of my favourite Tom Baker/Lala Ward stories, set in (and filmed in) Paris and involves the theft/copying of the Mona Lisa and an exploding space craft which led to the creation of life on Earth iirc.
I'd started watching Who earlier in Tom Baker's run but it was City Of Death, along with Horror Of Fang Rock, that always stayed with me and freaked me out a little.
Thumbnail looks like a spoiler. If Dan wins with the objectively worse overall box I will riot Edit: Time to riot. Dan won with luck and also some questionable points like the magnets not being a draw. Ashens destroys if like items were put head-to-head
With that pencil sharpener there is no way you can claim Ashens' calendar was objectively better! That was enough to knock it down to the worst calendar ever opened on this channel!
@@Okurka. That may be true but they can claim anything when they are the ones pricing the individual items. It doesn't make it true, as you'll probably agree.
All's well that ends well. Merry Christmas pals! Excited to get back to cheap tat calendars next year though, these expensive tat calendars have been a bit disappointing.
...the masks disappearing in the background after the lights went out is certainly something that startled me a few minutes later...that was a pretty well hidden way of cutting that, so nice job on that. I'm sure nothing more cursed with happen this year...
Bah still should have been a draw because of Ashens getting screwed by them not having a bottle to open with the trek bottle opener 😝 also I was certain that when they brought the tardis box back on it would be full of grass masks
Good to see that both calendars are doing their bit, no matter how small, to hasten the final dying breath of the planet as we know it with unnecessarily large and half-empty cardboard boxes every day. It does my little heart proud. Soon, friends, soon... All our suffering will be over. Merry Christmas, one and all! 🤣
And once more, the grass masks are satisfied, their hunger satiated for another 12 months. WE AWAIT THEIR INEVITABLE RETURN UPON 2022 #allhailthegrassmask
This was a fun one, I loved the cheese punishment calendar from before but it was interesting having two calendars from the same company. It's just a shame most of it was the most awful tat, I'd have been happier with Pensioners Breakfast.
I think the 2021 series has proven your better off with cheaper calendars and being occasionally pleasantly surprised than spending the money and being forever disappointed
May I suggest you make a calendar for each other next year with a fixed budget and get yourselves some really cool themed stuff? 24 days of exciting surprises!
Ever since my best friend introduced me to Nerdcubed with the showing of Intrusion 2 I've been a fan (did you ever manage to defeat that final boss? ^^). Then through Dan's channel I found Ashens and the advent calendar tradition has been one of the most enjoyable things about Christmas for me. I just want to say thank you so much to Ashens and Dan for continuing this series, being the brave and mad men that they are. I hope you will have the willpower to keep doing advent calendars for many years to come. Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2022!
Well thanks to the thumbnail I know that Dan won without even watching it. The Borg cube light won't turn off? That's because (electrical) resistance is futile
Today, we learn who is truly the champion of Pogs. It is- Dan. ...wait, where did the masks go?! I thought they snuck into the packet, but they're no longer here! ...OH GOD. If there's a Day 25, we're in for shenanigans.
