Ultra Boy had most of the powers shared by Superboy and Mon-El, however, he could only use one at a time, for example, he couldn't use super strength while flying, or be invulnerable while using his penetra-vision.
Correct. There is actually a lot of discussion online on how this could possibly work. For instance, how could he use his super strength without invulnerability and not break all his bones. I think the answer is that the writers didn't really think it through.
@@DCSilverAgeStorytime Comic writers in the 60s didn't think a lot of things through, for instance how could Superman have his powers deep in space, far from any yellow sun? And why did the rays of a red sun instantly strip him of his powers, even on earth? That's like subjecting a 700psi rated water pipe to only 70 psi.
@@davidvanhorn3340 I've actually thought about this. If he gets his power from the yellow sun, why does a red sun almost immediately drain him. Also, I imagined him flying through the Universe, looking for yellows suns like gas stations as a spot to fill himself back up.
You are incorrect about Ultra Boy's powers. From his first appearance, he had many of the same powers as Superboy, except for some reason never specified, he could only use one power at a time.
@@jimtrue1465 when he first appeared, Ultra Boy only appeared to have his Penetra-Vision which was a slightly upgraded version of Superboy's X-Ray. A few years later it was shown that he also had flight, strength and invulnrability but only one at a time. He had ultra power which he could devote to one power.
This is one of mistakes DC got into the readers started to complain about. Everyone was used to one book, one story. The love story was to get the Girl readers to join in. Don't forget Lois Lane was one of there Top Ten books.
I do wonder (especially in Lois Lane Superman's Girlfriend) if the writers back then thought that women only cared about getting married and having children because that seems to be the only way some of them could write female characters.
That's EXACTLY what the writers thought back then. One of the things I originally liked about Inza was that she was a partner and not a lover to Dr Fate but that changed over time to the detriment of the character.
I made a comment here and now it's gone. What I said was this comic made me a Ultra Boy fan for life. His one at a time powers are unique. Also, this adventure began his romance and eventual marriage to Phantom girl.
