I love having an omnipotent being that is not numb and bored and instead actually cares for the struggles of mortals. It felt so refreshing to have that for once.
Kind of odd how the Lich didn't do anything when Death was there since killing him would mean he would get to replace him and destroy the cycle of the afterlife and probably allow him to get to Life and kill her as well. Plus the Citadel was up and running at this point so killing Death would have fulfilled the cosmic being murder needed to get there
The thing is for starters: Pre-distant lands-death is technically giving life to those after death. Because technically they are alive in another realm. If the lich went after death before distant lands then the underworld could fall apart so practically the second and final death like hell for christians.
I’ve got a theory, since prismo is depicted as the editor of adventure time when he was changing where the crown was, his boss is the Cartoon Network head or the creator of adventure time.
Prismo is really Odin from American Gods. The egg he gave Jake to eat was his eye. It was the eye he sacrificed for knowledge to the World Tree. That's why he said it was brain food. Making Jake the Dog, Shadow Moon. That's why Jake had to take his place. When they needed to get to the Citadel he gave them Sonic Screwdrivers, for Odin is the Lord of Time. They Lich has 6 fingers, making him the Beast from The Magicians making Ooo Fillory from the books. Finn Sword is the Time Knife from the Good Place. Finn in the other world plays a flute because he's Shiva, aka David Haller form Legion. Maybe
@@_BubblGum_ If I'm not mistaken, there was an continuity error in "Finn the Human" where the crown appeared on Simon's skeleton when the bomb exploded, even though Finn was already with it. Then "Crossover" explained that Prismo sent the crown back in time to that scene so it would be destroyed by the bomb, freeing Finn from the curse.
I realize now that the cosmic owl leaves because prizmo tells them about committing a cosmic crime; he probably thought that they would try to kill him or something 🤯🤯🤯
while we are on the topic; let's talk about that part when prismo said, "my boss". * My theory: his boss is Pendleton Ward. the one-above-all of the adventure time universe 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 thoughts?
@@weeb6316 He is a higher dimensional being. we cant perceive higher dimensions but the would still cast a 'shadow' in our dimensional space. Prismo is a shadow.
I love how there's a party and stuff and then there's just Lich sitting in a corner clearly not having any fun whatsoever, like an introvert that got dragged to the party
He didn't get a lot of screen time, but Prismo was definitely one of my favorite characters in the show. Kumail's voice fit him perfectly and added so much charm to him.
@@DiggitySliceimagine being so braindead that you instantly define any not-white person as "wokey" lmfao shut up and go cry about pronouns or something
Kumail Nanjiani. It’s interesting because he started voicing Prismo before he became famous and continued it for a bit after that before the show was cancelled. I’ve never read an interview where he talks about Adventure Time though.
Also, he doesn't WARN people of what's gonna happen. HE makes it happen. Him simply entering a dream makes it real. NO dream is bound to happen, the dreams that ARE "supposed" to happen get a coin, a coin that the owl uses to enter the dream. He needs the coins to enter dreams, but he isn't limited to A dream for every coin. The coins aren't exclusive to one dream, so he can use ANY coin, to enter ANY dream, even if the dream isn't supposed to become real. That's why the whole thing with King of Ooo becoming princess, and then getting dethroned happened. Because prismo was chasing a chick(who turned out to be gunther, aka orgalorg, lol) into different dreams, and he made all of them a reality. The last one was Pb dreaming of her subjects loving her, and praising her, but then (female)gunther uses some weird magic to make the candy people hate Pb, and she falls and and a new ruler takes her place. That was all so he can get the chance to steal Pb's rocket and reach the catalyst comet to steal it's power.
@@3bodYking99 I can remember how dumb it was that Jake thought that he was in space with banana man if they had known that he was not a guy who predicts death but rather just something that will happen he even tried to warn Finn but he blew it just like he said he just warns you for your benefit the only time he would intervene is against the whywolves.
It’s honestly chilling to know that literally everything the Lich does is done for the purpose of causing as much death as possible. Like even that one time that he possessed a snail, he was going around with mass genocide on his mind. He’s almost robotic in the way he goes about achieving his goal. That one where he’s been inactive for a super long time and then suddenly raises his head slightly before attacking is honestly spine chilling, it’s just there to show that he’s about to commit atrocities in .5 seconds.
Lich isn’t a being but more closer to a force. It’s always around and will eventually get its way. Everything comes to and end eventually and that’s what the Lich represents
@@oozly9291 very true, also I just started rewatching a show and I noticed another scene that demonstrates how weirdly mechanical the lich is in his behavior. When he’s still disguised as Billy, there’s a scene where Jake asks: “how many more gems do we have left? 2? 1?” And Lichy just nods, Jake gets super weirded out asks if it was two or one and Lichy just holds up a finger. The Lich doesn’t bother speaking and answers in a way that is confusing to a regular person but would make sense to someone/thing that thinks mechanically.
He's basically sentient entropy. He's not just a force of death, but a force of returning the universe to its primal form of absolute homogenous nothingness.
Its important to remember too that finn and the lich are, technically speaking, the same being. The calamity comet canonically comes around every so many thousands of years as an agent of change. The first time it reaches Ooo, it becomes the lich. An entity of pure malice. It has decided to bring about change through destruction. While some here have called him a force of entropy, that is technically untrue. The natural force of entropy is Golb, however the lich does refer to himself as "The Last Scholar of Golb". Which we can take to mean that he learned much of his powers from Golb itself, so entropy does play a large part in who he is. The Lich brings about change through destruction and death, driven solely by his purpose, ceaseless, unending, inevitable. So what does that have to do with Finn? Simple really. Finn is one of a long line of reincarnations of the Calamity Comets second coming. After being the lich, the comet decided this time instead of being a force of great evil, it would be a force of great good. Finn, and his past and future selves, exhibit the comets desire to experience life from a more down to earth perspective, to live out full lives to their natural conclusions, and to bring change in smaller ways, by battling evil by hand. In the end, good always triumphs over evil, and thus finn and his future reincarnations will continue to push back the lich for all of time. The Lich, and by extension Finn, are both immutable parts of the universe now, constantly returning as the universe understands and learns about itself. Adventure Time is all about cycles. The ways that everything changes, and the ways they all stay the same.
I love Prismo and Jake's relationship and how they made him and Prismo connected the way they did. Alternate reality Jake now sleeps forever to keep Prismo alive. These are the plotlines that kept this show alive. It really did grow with its audience. It's amazing how the goofy first season evolved into stories about cosmic beings and nuclear apocalypse. I know Marceline already got a Distant Lands episode, but I think we really need a good Simon/Marceline episode. I think we can all agree we'd like seeing more of one of the best storylines in AT.
And if you notice alternate reality jake ages and looks exactly like the only man, meaning the old man was jake to begin with and prismo was always a dream of jakes, it’s a paradox but a good one that’s kinda sweet
Believe it or not, Kumail Nanjiani posted on Twitter that Prismo is his favorite role. He wanted to reprise the character again for Fionna and Cake, but his agents never told him that the Adventure Time team wanted him to come back.
The series went from episodic comedy to exploring all kinds of weird shit in a way more serious tone. I managed To watch every single episode except for the Series finale of the main show
Unfortunately despite Adam asking for it Kumail will not return as Prismo in Fionna and Cake due to his agents passing on it and not even telling him of the offer to come back as Prismo Kumail has expressed his disappointment on twitter saying he would've done it for free as he loved voicing the wish master. I'm sure the new VA did a good job capturing Prismo and us fans should welcome him in open arms and give him a chance. He's got big shoes to fill but I'm sure the new voice will fit the character but MAN I was looking forward to more Kumail as Prismo so I am saddened by this news.
If you think about it, Prismo's power makes sense. When the Lich went to his Cube and wished for the Extinction of All Life in the Universe, Prismo fulfilled the wish and I was puzzled. After watching more of Prismo I wondered how he had the power to wipe out all life in the universe? Then I realized, he doesn't. He simply has the capability of comprehending a universe in which the wish takes place, and sends the wisher into it. Technically, the universe he thinks up is just a dream until it's experienced by another person, inwhich it becomes a fully realized universe that can be entered and left, added on or destroyed, and events in it can change through time as usual. That, in a sense, is the basis for Prismo's whole power set. He's not real, and never really was real. Prismo, the Wish Master is, in fact, a very aloof and sleepy Dream Caster that can project his personality while sleeping and manifest itself in its own pocket of reality. Prismo's box is the event horizon of this, as it were, since you could be tied to many different timelines while outside the box, but while inside, you're protected by all changes and erratas to time and space, cause Prismo isn't in any pocket of reality with other universes. Which makes sense why the Lich disappeared after his wish. At first, I thought he disappeared with the rest of the life in his universe. But that couldn't be, since he made the wish in Prismo's cube which is protected from those things. I think, the Lich was sent to the dream scape that Prismo thought up in which the Lich's wish becomes true, so that the universe can be experienced by another being and become true. It's the same reason why, when Finn made his wish that the Lich never existed, he was sent there cause he made the wish, and Jake wasn't made dumb and normal like in the alternate reality because he was protected by Prismo's Cube. Finn's consciousness needed to be sent to the timeline in order for it to be real. Which is why everything worked out when Jake made his wish. Technically, he didn't wish for any crazy, time-altering eratas, he just wished for the Lich, just as Finn and Jake found him, to wish for Finn and Jake to go home, which ruins his wish. They then do, but I have a theory that this isn't in fact their world. Just like with everything else, Jake was sent to an alternate universe where his wish takes place. And for the two of them and the Lich to be unchanged, it means the 13 billion or so years of their timeline is unchanged, and all things that did happen and things they experienced is exactly how they were, down to the nano-second. Except, the change is that there's Jake's wish-version where they both get sent home, and I'm sure there's the version they came from too, where the jewels to the Enchiridian are gone, Billy, the Lich, Finn, and Jake are all gone, and no one knows where the hell they went. But that universe they returned to can be called a true timeline since it takes place just like how their original would if they returned. This theory for how universes and multiverses work can be backed by the Pillow World episode. Essentially, Finn had an out of body, dreamscape experience where he fully realized a whole world with other beings and physics, and spent a whole life time while there. But, once he died, the world had no one to experience it, and thus it was consumed by Golb. But the reason why Finn returned to his world after that and not just die, was because it wasn't the same total creation of universes that Prismo can create. Finn didn't get his consciousness transported to another world like Prismo does. In his universe, Finn really was just sleeping in the pillow fort. Once he died in the Pillow Dream, he was sent back to the reality he also existed in, but the rest of the dream was destroyed because no one was there to experience it. That's the key. Some external, previously conscious being has to enter and integrate with a universe in order for its existence to be justified. Now, figuring all that out was roughly simple, but how did Jake make a change to the Lich while the Lich was inside Prismo's cube? This was the thing that puzzled me most, but I think I have an answer. Prismo is the total ruler of his box world. He can create things from nothing, move things around, and use it as a hub to peer into other universes and timelines. He's God there. So he can mess with stuff inside if he wants to anyway. Someone making a wish that involves changing an event that takes place in the cube, is probably a loop-hole in Prismo's wish powers that he let slide. My guess, is because he befriended Jake and likes him, has no quarrel with Finn and would prefer he be there to make Jake happy, and likes the outcome of his wish *vastly more* than he likes the outcome of the Lich's wish. But it still makes it possible. You can even see how it's different from other wishes. With other people, their wishes happen seamlessly. All events needed to fulfill their wish take place with no gaps. But when Finn and Jake watch the change to the Lich's wish take place, it's not him seamlessly asking them to go home, it's like he completely glitched out, hence why this way of changing things is different from how Prismo usually handles stuff. And if you think about it, Prismo's power has far reaching, eternal outcomes. Like how Jake and Finn returned after Jake's wish, but the reality where Finn's wish takes place is still happening, and why it's a Cosmic threat if Ice Finn goes to the rest of the multiverse. The Finn that Jake went to Prismo with first, IS Ice Finn, and the Finn he left with is Prismo's wish version Finn. Again, since Jake didn't ask for anything before they enter to change, the Finn he left with is exactly like how he entered, but is still different. And when Prismo dies, those realities don't just disappear. He dreamed them up and then sent people their to justify the realms existence themselves, whether Prismo is alive or not. In fact, you could say Prismo has already done this to himself. He isn't real, and doesn't exist within any other universes. But he does exist in his Cube. I think, to become Prismo the Wish Master, he dreamt up the cube and the powers and effects he has within it, and by putting his real self to sleep, he can send his consciousness into the cube to justify the cubes existence. Prismo's first wish he ever granted, the way he grants wishes to others, was a wish for himself. This basically operates the same as the Pillow World, but different. Essentially, Prismo only exists as long as his real self is dreaming, just like how Pillow World only existed while Finn was dreaming. Which is why you shouldn't wake the real Prismo up, because it has the same effect is did with Finn. Prismo the Wish Master and his Cube cease to exist. The difference, is that in Pillow World, Finn still thought of himself as mortal, probably because he's never accurately comprehended Immortality. So, he experiences age and thus Pillow World has a time limit. But, Prismo has no concept or age or death for himself in his dream, so it can't be interrupted in that way. No one can really touch, feel, or harm Prismo the Wish Master, which is why his existence is so iron clad. But he can technically be killed, since it already happened. And also, the concept of "killing a Wish Master being a Cosmic crime" means that it can happen and that it's happened before. Imagine other Wish Masters like Prismo. They could all have a unison existence because they're not technically harming universes. They're creating new ones and sending people to them. The versions in which someone leaves to the plane of a Wish Master, probably involves that person leaving and never coming back. Since, like Prismo, they don't change all of reality, they think up new ones. Just like how there's a version of Ooo where Finn and Jake never returned, I'm sure there's plenty of people in the multiverse that disappeared in the same way. It's because they went to the Wish Masters, outside of time and space, made their wish, and went to a reality where their wish came true. It's the reality they wished for, but never the one they came from. This show is so weird, I love it
Prismo has always been an amazing concept for the show. His 2D body in the safety cube, he can wish for anything while inside, even for alternate realities years in the past to take place. The reasons for his powers are so cool too, he's basically a sentient, self-aware, dream version of himself with Cosmic level power. The episode where he recreated himself using Jake was one of my favorites as soon as it came out. The way Jake described the bed and pillows, it's like Prismo kindof made it perfect for a sleepy dog like Jake in the first place. He's seriously one of my favorite characters in the show
I love Prismo- his design, his voice, everything. He's so chill, it makes complete sense that he and Jake would be friends. He was willing to die just to help out a bro (though he did have Plan B, but still risky!) I had totally forgotten that he mentioned having a boss. There are still even greater entities of the Adventure Time universe that we never met!
I remember the episode when it was new that Prismo died and I just could not handle that lmao he was a really dope character and I thought it was the end of it because I stopped watching adventure time but to know he came back to life that’s awesome.
I actually had a dream a long long time ago that I was in a room with a wholly two-dimensional being. It blinked its eye so I knew it was alive, but I don't remember any more than that. So to see Prismo on TV years later was a crazy shock--it made me think my brain was secretly super creative!
Man its so sad looking back on this now especially after Jakes death knowing how much Prismo bonded with him. Now hes devastated and unwell which is odd considering how happy Finn is still.
I just realized the reason why the cosmic owl at 2:29 leaves so nervously when prismo mentioned how cosmic crimes get you in the prison. Than the Cosmic owl himself has actually done such crimes since he actually appears on Scarab’s tab thing in fionna and cake
I can't think of a more fitting personal hell for the Lich than being forced to sit in a room and watch an endless party, the purest celebration of life.
0:00 is his normal design. 7:01 is basically the same but he has eyebrows and teeth now. 8:26 Now he looks the exact same as before. 9:21 he has teeth and eyebrows again, but this time his eyebrows are transparent
"Let me take one more look around before I wake up and my corporeal form is brought back and all my time altering powers are lost..." camera pans to the lich sitting in the corner only rendered immobile from the lack of life that can be ended due to the time room's properties "Huh. Thought I'd own more stuff by now. Okay wake me up." i love this show
Good vid, maybe u could make a pt. 2 of: -his scenes in “Finn the human” -most of his scenes in “Jake the dog” -his other scene in “hoots” -his cameo in “skyhooks II” -his cameo in “come along with me” If you want, of course. Just to have ALL of Prismo
I have a theory, that Prismo's boss is Life's father. Life mentioned that she had a father when she said she could play deaths cd in her "dads garage" in the short "the gift that reaps giving". It makes sense that a being that is older than life herself would be powerful enough to be Prismo's boss. If Adventure Time has a god (excluding party god) this would be it.
1:44 What I love about Prismo’s friendship with Jake is that there’s no insecurity. Prismo doesn’t get jealous of Finn. Because he understands their bond.
Even though I stopped around the 1st or 2nd season, It's real weird seeing how we went from making sandwiches and occasionally fighting a mere ice king to interdimensional conflict, time altering, multiversal entities, and comets and liches. A lot of cooky stuff went down when I left.
It’s worse when you realize that a) the Adventure Time crew did reach out to Kumail to reprise his role b) Kumail’s agent was the one that refused on his behalf c) Kumail only found out through Twitter that he was offered the role AND found out his agent denied it without talking to Kumail about it… worst of all Kumail had fun voicing Prismo
Finn Sword is single handedly one of the most fucked up concepts on an existential scale ive ever had to wrap my head around. He casually kills and enslaves himself into a sword prison for eternity only for it to become corrupted by a grass demon and ultimately sacrifice his life AGAIN for a redemption arc; all because... this
7:43 i like the detail that Ice Finn is surprised when the multiverse 'pops'. its sweet that even when he's a cosmic threat, Prismo knows he's just incredily deluded (and also like, 13)
And I love the eps that they bring back prismo cause it shows how deep they can go and truly how mind fxcking the show is .. and this helps kids deeply think about everything and that’s amazing
Crossover was such an interesting episode, I wish there a few other stories with Prismo sending Finn and Jake in short adventures through the multiverse before the show ended.
However, the basketball hoop trashcan thing happened again when simon requested betty, after she merged with with golb. Meaning that the only things off limits to prismo are things that have become one with golb, one way or another.
