@@bababooey7257 the first one is just a problem when you like your parents and the second one it's not necessary. just live in a distance of the one that is considered the real that you can never change if you want.
shoko just kinda fed the tree by dying next to it actually now that I think about it all the radioactive goop on her should've killed the tree. guess we'll never know.
From what I remember the original Finn became the Finn sword and a new Finn got it but only to have sword Finn exist again as a humanoid and shunned which hurts me BECAUSE HE'S LITERALLY THE ORIGINAL FINN...
@@Regulinecolt009 well technically he is a memory/time shadow of the original Finn created by the paradoxical powers of prismo but I don’t really know how that all works so he might as well be the original. He has all the memories and stuff after all.
4:12. fern wasn’t the only idiot who got consumed by one of the elements. Finn was consumed by fire with his anger, and almost got turned into both slime and candy cause he was just standing around
@@uluccoban8875 No, LSP saved everyone. Finn actually completely failed and got corrupted, Jake too. And poor Fern was probably just turned overnight without him even noticing a thing.
Fern as a character is just so sad to think about. It’s literally just finn but in a grass body, he’s not a fake Finn, he’s literally the Finn we all know but in a grass body. Imagine being you your whole life, and then one day you wake up to find yourself being shunned and antagonized because you’re an alleged demon version of somebody else. All the friends u thought were friends act like they don’t know you, all the things you enjoyed you no longer can experience, and then you have to compare yourself to the “real” version of you just to find out you’re inferior in every way, even tho up until this point that person was you. And it hurts even more when characters like jake force themselves to treat fern like an equal, and then probably makes fern feel even worse because he can tell nobody wants anything to do with him, except Finn, which is the person fern lost his humanity to essentially. Such a miserable existence, this may sound bad but it was probably for the best that he ended up losing his life at the very end, because even though he ended up slaying the demon that made him malicious, it still would’ve more or less been the same life.
When I was a kid, I thought that Finn had doubled up and that the one I always knew from the first few seasons was he, fern. When I saw the other finn, I kept thinking about how the "first Finn" according to me had lost everything to the sword, from his brother to his own identity, having to turn Fern.
0:35 I feel super bad for Fern, because when you think about it, Fern is actually Finn who’s getting corrupted by the green squid. So I 100% understand Fern’s confusion and surprise when Jake (his own brother) doesn’t recognize him and gangs up against him.
I think it's because the Finn sword copied all of Finn's attitude and stuff (mostly focused on his bad side) He's like Finn but with reduced personality and other stuff (can't breathe, a bit evil, eh. His brain is... Yuh, aggressive towards himself and Finn) or the evil side of Finn So fern is the same as Finn which is very understandable and he feels and looks himself AS finn
@@bobtheanimator8353 The Finn sword is literally the original Finn but a got touched by a future version of himself to turn him into a sword. All the evil stuff was the grass demon that merged with him
No fern is an alternate version. Fern is the fun trying to wake Jake up, original finn stops him. When that happens alternate fern finn turns into finn sword. And that’s how he came to be.
Fern is so tragic. I can't even begin to imagine being an exact copy of someone, and knowing that YOU are the copy. You'll never be able to be or live up to the original. But you are lost because you don't know who you, YOURSELF, is. Anything you try to do that's different from the original doesn't work because it isn't something that the original would do. It wouldn't feel good or natural to you. And to top it all off, you'd only be the 2nd "Finn" to everyone you know, not the original
The thing is, he's not even a copy. He's more or less just an alternate timeline Finn. If you wanna be technical, Fern is actually the *original* Finn, and the Finn we finish the show with is the alternate timeline one introduced by Prismo's contingency plan (Also, the Jake we finish with is from a duplicate timeline as well, with the original Jake becoming Prismo's new dream host)
@@funynonsence Really? Honestly I don't remember too much of earlier adventure time in detail lol. Are you referring to the first time we met Prismo with the Lich and the wishes and everything? Because given that the whole scenario was resolved by changing the Lich's wish and sidestepping the time travel stuff I'd argue that still counts as original Finn
@@blak4831 remember when fin turned into fin sword when jake became prismos new dreamer well the fin sword is the original fin we see in seasons 1-6 and that fuses with the grass sword creating fern
@@somefuckingretard8289 they literally say int he show and everything "I don't think he's a doppelganger or evil clone or anything. Finn, he's just you." Which would technically make it suicide, the Finn sword was literally just Finn in a time paradox when prismo died
@@grellsutcliffe8265 He's basically killing himself, but not his own self. The current body he owns stays alive. He's ending the life of another body, so it's not suicide
Fern was actually forshadowed when Jake went to the fire kingdom to try to find Finn a girlfriend. He said that Finn was a prince of the grass kingdom (I think)
@Crimson Outdoors Co. yeah that’s what I love about the show. In the first episode with Hunson Abadeer he told Gunther that he was one of the most evil beings he encountered and turned out to be right
Evidence that fern out of all the Finn versions of the series (Fiona , AU normal human Finn etc.) damm even pillow world Finn can’t compete..NGL Thet touch me fern is a more tragic Finn than the other
Fern has always been one of my favorite adventure time characters despite his short inclusion. His story was so tragic, and it’s heart breaking to think that when he had his realization about his own humanity, and finally lost all the turmoil trapped both literally and metaphorically within him, that he only got to enjoy it for maybe just a few good minutes. I hope he’s enjoying being a tree, or a sword stuck in a tree. Either way I just want him to be happy in the end.
What truly hurt when fern fell apart in the end was when Finn told fern that they could go back to the tree house one more time, and Jake's eyes changed. That was very heartbreaking.
Thats pretty interesting. Sword finn liked to be in the sword form(idk why, seems like it was some inhumanely good kind of existence, show didn’t really tell why exactly he liked it, he just did), so when he got corrupted by grass demon he went from very chill and cool form to depression and crisis. Now when he is not corrupted I guess he likes being the sword again(but he didn’t show any kind of sentience so…)
The Fern character is one of the most interesting and dark characters I’ve seen. It started out as Finn, with all the same memories and personality, but was driven to madness by jealousy and everyone rejecting him, proving the same could happen to Finn. I love this show.
I mean, he is still an interesting character, but not really because of that, you’re kind of missing the very important detail that he was also basically possessed by an evil entity that actively took control multiple times, and the fact that half the time he tried to do something he enjoyed his body prevented him from doing it
One thing I always loved about Fern, is that despite having a separate VA, he still has all of his speaking habits It was like, the writers wrote Finn, and the VA did an impression of Jeremy's delivery It makes moments like the bib & "get a life man" hit hard Even "That's okay, Just promise to plant me there"
Lol seriously. They kinda of but not really mentioned him. When Jake comes to meet Finn at the dead world he was at with his dog parents. Jake loosely recognises Finn but instead of saying Finn he says Fern.
He LITERALLY tried to commit murder, multiple times. Least when papyrus did it he was so incompetent he told you how to avoid the traps. And after a while gave up trying to capture humans
I feel so bad for Fern , he doesn’t deserve to suffer like he has. But also let’s just take a second to talk about all the trama Finn and Fern gave each other
The most tragic part of Fern is that he's the Finn from Episode 1. This Finn is just an exact copy, an uncorrupted save file before the original Finn became the Finnsword. It's an existentially cruel dilemma, because technically, NEITHER of them can be called the real Finn. This is the most wild show in existence.
Fern is without a doubt the original and real Finn. His consciousness was altered only in the ways a regular human's consciousness is altered by experiences. But he never ceased to be or come into existence as a duplicate or recursive timeline version. I'm not sure either Finns really understand this, but if they did I imagine Fern would have demanded to be left with Prismo.
Isnt fern a finn from a couple of minutes in the past that got turned into a sword? Also like the other guy said, farmworld finn is like, finn from the future after present finn makes the wish, so wouldnt he actually be the original?
1:22 that bird worked so hard on the nest, making it suitable for eggs then finn just destroys it like it's nothing (Someone told me I got the timestamp wrong lol ty)
I recently started watching adventure time again and found out how much I can relate to fern is just scary as hell but funny since I have a friend who acts just like Finn
Anton Paulson don’t worry you’ll find your Finn I know you will in the mean time have a cup cake fern or Finn *hands you cupcake of your choice* have a nice day
i find it really interesting how during elements it was fern who was overtaken by the candy element, while finn was taken over by fire. fern, the character we typically see feeling frustrated and angry, was overtaken by pure fun and joy, while finn, who’s typically pretty cheery, optimistic and the ultimate goody two shoes was overtaken by unfiltered anger and violence. you might expect it to have been the other way around, but when you think about it it makes sense: they both gave in to the allure of what they wanted most. fern got to detach from all his problems and forget about them so he could always have fun and never worry, and finn got to let all his frustration out, blow off all the steam that comes with the weight of always being the hero, always being responsible for everyone around him, the obligation to save the day no matter the odds. they both know these are not healthy ways of coping with their problems, and neither of them actually want to be the people these forces turned them into, but still the temptation was just too strong, and in the end neither of them could resist.
Fern is so special because I always saw him as more than just a grass version of Finn, but as a metaphor for personal growth and becoming a better person. It’s like there’s the real you trying to cooperate with a toxic side of yourself who doesn’t want to cooperate, so you’re unable to fully improving yourself for the better. You try to love out the bad till it gets better, but eventually you realize you can’t continue loving a trait in you that needs to be improved. You will have to let go and destroy the bad to be able to grow as a person. This is where Finn destroys Fern with his robotic arm. It doesn’t feel good because in the process of becoming a better person you’re also super vulnerable, afraid of hurting yourself when facing the fact that you need to be better. When Finn plants Fern in the ground it represents how you can use the wisdom you have gained from growing as a person to make things better for yourself and the future, so destroying the bad didn’t go to waste, but created a process that now means you’re better at loving yourself and loved ones better than before. Adventure time is full of very deep and important life lessons explained through weird and silly metaphors, but that’s one of the reasons why this show is so great and you’re able to return to it. It only gets better and reveals more secrets the older you get to be honest. Thanks for making this video of our precious boi Fern!
If not for the emissary from beyond he could’ve actually been a better hero than Finn himself, the grass sword always was finn’s strongest weapon after all.
i genuinely feel so bad for fern, like imagine having all ur memories from before and everything but you find out your actually a clone and all your loved ones start hating you because you're a clone
Adventure time is just so... amazing. There will never be another show like it. Fern is a great example of this. Imagine saying "Yeah so the main character gets grass sword and later that grass sword becomes the main character but made out of grass." Only adventure time man
I'll never forget Fern. I remember how jarring it was knowing that a version of Finn was inside a sword, just trapped forever. Then when Fern came about, I couldnt stop thinking about how depressing his situation was. He escaped the sword just to find out there's really nothing for him on the outside. An equally tragic thing to note is how Finn becomes a better person because of Fern. Meeting Fern made him really reflect on how he was in the past, and how he actually wants to be. Its just a shame that Fern never got the chance to learn those lessons.
i feel so bad for fern having to live as a copy of someone who you once were and still feel like but no one treats you the same as u were before, not being able to do the things you once loved, just being seen as some grass demon boy :( I’m glad in the end he became a beautiful tree where he lived all those years and is at peace, ik it seems bad but maybe it’s good he’s dead, he’s finally at peace
from 1:34 to 2:28 always made me really sad. especially the part where he reaches for his finn bib and jake was about to call him out for the bib “not being his”
I was sad when he said "I just wish that I could see the tree house one more time. Thats okay, just promise to plant me there." Fern was such a great character, his end was really sad, very touching :(
fern is literally my favorite character. my favorite line from him is: “why don’t you fight me like a real butterfly?” he’s just so depressing and silly at the same time
If I remember right, Fern was the original Finn… which is even more sad. The Finn and Jake we see in the show after that Primo episode were the duplicates.
This is a good representation of what its like to change and deal with everyone's understanding of who you used to be. Depression can make you a worse person, and part of the struggle to becoming better is you expect yourself to act like you did before you got depressed. Just like Fern expected himself to be like Finn.
Finn losing his arm: 1/10 Marceline singing the sad song: 5/10 BMO getting hurt: 9/10 Fern’s death: 1000/10 Together again 100’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000’000 Me: **sobs**
Fern is honestly someone I can relate to on an emotional level. He's so focused on the negative parts of himself. He views people as superior to him even when they're really not. He beats himself up over things that he as a being cannot do. He's trying to figure himself out all over again in a world that immediately chased him away.
He feels like a childhood friend you just grow distant from but still share the same history and so in the time he's antagonizing you he goes for the vitals. It annoys me enough to wanna beat him up but holds me back from actually hating Fern as he's mostly confused. I have had many friends like this.
You've had many friends that used to be you but then tried to kill you, resulting in your killing them before thye then try to kill you and then they try to kill you and then you turn them good again by helping them to destroy their inner demon but then they can't live without their inner demon so they disintegrate and you so you have to plant their seed in the ground where your home used to be? If you had a nickel for every time that happened, how rich would you be?
Poor fern honestly, I always forget that he truly thought he was Finn, so it’s as if he was Finn and just one day a clone showed up and took over his life. I know why he turned evil.
honestly Fern is if you wake up someday and literally Everyone is calling someone else you, then everything you do and like is just a failure, and when you try to do something Other you only know that the clone you can do better, even knowing you're a different person than them... I love Fern so much, and he deserved to have a happier ending with his family.
This is why adventure time is prolly my fav shows in cartoon network. Its a kids show and yet it has such dark, gruesome, funny, and saddening parts to it. It teaches kids how life is an emotional rollercoaster and preps for reality.
Fern is officially my favorite character of A.T. Even though he went crazy being the only Finn, he still was pretty wholesome, and precious. Shame we couldn’t see him in “Together Again”..
I loved fern so much. I sadly saw him for one episode and stopped watching adventure time since I moved away from my auntie's apartment. She loved my company and treated me like if I was her niece. But overall I really REALLY love fern
But overall the last episode was kinda like a punch in the gut. Knowing yourself and facing your childhood fears. It's scary yet frightening for adults who are facing them right now. Like me. You feel like two selves who need to co-op with the past and present life self to keep on going. Made me cry ngl
