One of the best van builds I’ve seen!

Ahhh...thanks! We absolutely love it. Over 40,000 miles later and we're not planning on moving out anytime soon.

Patricia Randall Thanks! The build was a LOT of work despite what looks like a simple design. We’re loving every minute in it! 🙂

njcranes It’ll be a real struggle when the time comes to move back into a house. We’ve truly enjoyed exploring the US over the last six months and look forward to what’s ahead.

Thanks for your message. We are certainly living our best lives! We've also decided that we're not going back to living in a house anytime soon. Our van will continue to be our home for the foreseeable future.

This is amazing, Aaron, Chris, and Ella! I actually watched you build this beautiful home, practically from scratch. The effort and love that you put into it is an inspiration for anyone who is thinking of an adventure like the one you are creating. I'm so proud of you and wish you a wonderful rest of the year!

Linda Peters Thanks, Linda! The build was certainly much harder than we expected but are enjoying every day spent in the van.

Awesome! I love how well Ella has adapted to van life. Clearly she knows y'all are her pack, and the van is your territory wherever it roams. Part of me thinks that someday I'll adapt the minimalism needed to live in such a small space. But wherever will I store my two pressure canners & gazillions of canning jars? ;-) I'm curious if you use a pressure cooker. The down side is it's another pot to store, but the plus side is it uses less energy to cook.

Quite a few van lifers use an Instant Pot but the meals I typically prepare wouldn't work well with it. We also don't have space for it. My dehydrator took its place. lol!

Cool video.. Love that linoleum... Can you share where you got it from..??
@backcountryfoodie
@backcountryfoodie 4 года назад
Thanks! A number of flooring stores carry it here in Seattle. Here's the exact type that we have: www.forbo.com/flooring/en-us/products/marmoleum/marmoleum-linear-sheet/marmoleum-striato-color/bbelf8#5243 Pro tip: Don't install it when it's cold outside. Ours cracked and later expanded by 1/2" when we drove it to Florida where it was warmer. After removing the adhesive and trimming it back, it's been fine ever since.

Very nicely done and well thought out. I didn't see the bathroom facilities, or is that a trip to the privy?
@backcountryfoodie

Apologies for the delayed response. Eme is exactly right. We chose digging cat holes over losing living space in our van for a bathroom. We're coming up on two years in our van and don't regret not adding one.
@backcountryfoodie

You're absolutely right! We've been living in the wilderness full-time for almost two years now and actually prefer going to the bathroom outside. LOL!!

You mentioned getting up in the night to use the bathroom? Did I miss the toilet?
@backcountryfoodie
@backcountryfoodie 3 года назад
Nope, you didn't miss it. Lol! When we're in the wilderness, we go to the bathroom outside. As backpackers, this isn't a big deal for us. When in town and we can't access a bathroom, we have pee bottles.

i'm sure u two have resolved the 'air trap' issue in ur h2o lines. what was the fix ?? a 'one way' valve in the main line ????
@backcountryfoodie
@backcountryfoodie 3 года назад
Sorry for the slow reply. No, we never fixed the air trap issue. We like the convenience of our set-up but the third jug is pretty useless. It's too far away from the pump and sputters when we try to use it. The third jug is essentially our back-up for when we've run out of water elsewhere. We've since added 5 x 1 gallon jugs (stashed next to the other jugs but loose on the floor). We use the smaller jugs for drinking water (there seems to be sediment in our larger jugs, haven't figured that one out) and filling up when we need to not draw attention to ourselves in populated areas.

@@backcountryfoodie .... thanks for the reply !! etter late than never :) i like fixing problems ! wish you guys was near by, would love to fix it. but it's one of those things that has to be hands on to see the problem then create the fix. I have worked on MANY systems. yours sound like fun ( for me ). ATB !!!!!
@backcountryfoodie
@backcountryfoodie 3 года назад
@@tracykooken2606 Thanks for the offer! We're actually looking into revamping the entire system to include the gray water tank. The freezing and thawing in Colorado cracked our tank. The drain line freezes, too, which makes washing dishes tough. :(

I like how the minimalist concept of vanlife got a taste of capitalism with 300k Benz monsters with satilite TV and cellphone boosters
@backcountryfoodie
@backcountryfoodie 2 года назад
I would guess that most folks living in vans built them themselves and don't have satellite TV. We reduced our living expenses by 75% while in our van. Now that we've moved back into a house, I truly miss the simple life.
