I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Lauren at a tiny home show last year. She is so sweet and loves van life. Her little dog, Penny is precious. Thanks for sharing her story.
Watching this again after nearly a year (and several hundred other van videos) and it is still one of the best vans out there. Love the bed and space it gives.
I saw one once that Jarrod Tocci toured. It was very nice too. This one is fantastic as well. I think they're the best option for bed storage on these can tours.
My favorite design of all time. Love the bed and all the storage and the choice of a composting toilet. Almost all spaces have a dual use which makes sense. This is the first one which has made sense to me.
Love the bed idea, makes the space work 100% better. No need for a bed down all the time, just a waste of space. The flip down side of the bed is such a simple and great idea for more comfortable sitting area.
Thank you for inviting me into your home. I love it. I use bath whipes for bathing and wash my hair once a week or so in sink if I don't have access to shower. When i was in the hospital i couldn't take a shower for sometime so they gave me whipes that you heat or not. Love them. Your is cute. I love the company of a fury friend.
Bath wipes are fantastic! Helps save water and carries you until you can find a shower. We love this murphy bed design! Happy travels and hope to see you on the road.
The main thing I have to take away from all these shows that no one mentions is that to live this life style is that you must be in almost PERFECT HEALTH.
She can always wash her hair and take a sponge bath in her sink. I'd get one of those on demand hot water heaters that goes on your faucet if I was her.
I was on a European Van built RU-vid channel. The had a Hulu hoop that they attached to inner ceiling with sturdy Velcro loops.Shower curtain around hoop and folding pool or large horse bucket to catch water. Use either a Zodi portable shower hot water unit or you can use a house from the wind if you got a long hose..then store away out of use. If you don't t mind shower out side a 5 gallon black bag and tarp the back door area for privacy
Oh my goodness! When you said that OGAvans was in frederick I just about died! One day I want to be a van lifer (If I can get my BF and cat onboard) and you made the task of van builds so much easier. I can't wait to get to thar van life stage in my life, ogavans is so close!
I LOVE this video. My OGA Van, also using the Rambler layout, will be ready for me to pick up and drive away in just one month, so this definitely was a treat to find today, and be made excited and inspired. I’ll be taking my little dog out and traveling otherwise solo most of the time. Thanks for filming and posting this. Cheers to Lauren, Penny, and the Pennybago.
Cathie Tonkin Hi Cathie. I didn’t know #vanlife existed before the beginning of May, but wanted it from the second I found out about it. I wasn’t in a position to make the leap, but made the commitment mentally to make it happen. Change came into my life and allowed the leap. In a month, I should be rolling in a van named Lyle. If you want it, I hope it happens for you too.
Nice job with this van tour and interview! What a great van. Murphy beds are always a cool thing. Love that she has living space when its up. Her bathroom was so cool. Great idea, flip top lid counter space. That sink! Now thats a great sink. Her trip sounds amazing. Wonderful job guys! xo
Love your Style! Ive been thinking alot more about VanLife and you have Everything I will incorporate in my style of VanLife... I Love You Babe! Keep On Truckin!
For people contemplating van builds, keep your propane (LPG) on the outside of your van. You can put it in storage on the van that is accessed from outside. In fact this is the law in Australia. With caravans in Australia, you will see the propane (LPG) tanks on the drawbar.
I would lose the Hugh bed and just use a recliner. I have slept in a recliner for years and cannot sleep in a bed. That would leave room for a wet bath which I would have to have. Plus I don't want the toilet where I cook !! The van is beautifully built .
I'll look forward to seeing this build in person at the upcoming VanStock in Alaska July 2020! It will be great to welcome everyone to Alaskan-style hospitality! Your van is a beautiful build!
I met Lauren briefly, along with a couple others, in a Florida beach parking lot back in October. Nice to get a look into her rig. I really like the murphy bed. Mention of the baja - Alaska caravan sounded great then and makes me jealous now.
I like the lay out. Stove near door and not next to the bed. I like the flip up.. Even with the bench. I especially like the bed. It is put away made no having to remake and unmake each day
What a great van build! Super efficient-looking. Gotta love the Murphy bed. I wonder, however, how much insulation did you have to sacrifice for the placement of the Murphy bed?
I love the Murphy bed. I enjoy the idea of being able to open or exit out the back. Think I would have an outside shower too, for same reason. 👍👍 saving this for my ideas folder.
We have now been on the road for 3 years without a shower...guess what, we wish we had one now 😂😂😂 Thank you for watching, we appreciate you leaving a comment.
Nice build and tour! Interesting Murphy bed. I have the same ruvati sink (added it last summer when the original equipment hand pump faucet failed) Now have a much more functional sink in the same footprint and a foot pump sink which is soooo much easier to use!
Hi, very nice van build. I also am from Sarasota FL and enjoy knowing there are others out there from the area. I just started researching van builds vs already built. Either way, I can't wait to get started with a new adventure! Good luck with yours!
Great Van build. I love the way the dog looks away from the camera. I used to have a half Saint Bernard and half little bitty dog named puddin and she hated cameras. I only ever got one halfway decent picture of her and she was curled in a C to get away from the camera. She thought it took her soul I guess. Hahaha
I’m surprised someone hasn’t made a foldable 4 foot slim inflatable little tub for a van like hers. They make inflatable mattresses and swimming pools for children that are a breeze to set up and take the air out and when not in use deflate and store. You could have a hose set up from the kitchen sink and if no hot water just heat some in a large pot on stove and dump in the little inflatable tub in the area by the bed. Easy breezy. I would rather do that than go outside to be exposed and have a cold shower. The little tub could be made of sturdy material and probably could be made very cheaply. Just thinking.....
I wish more people would talk about vehicle breakdowns, tire issues etc. I would love to be a van lifer..but I get anxiety about breakdowns, getting stranded. What do people do when there's a breakdown?.. especially single women, elderly women..
I have seen tons of these Videos and i have to say I Love Your Setup/ Home it is Beautiful and everything You need is right there with You 💖 Thanks for sharing Your Stunning Home with us .💖
I downsized from a one bedroom apartment to a studio apartment a couple of years ago and I threw out heaps. I have a storage shed now and I need to downsize more. I plan to van life when my partners kids grow up. Which’ll be awhile sadly but it gives me time to save and buy my van.
Sounds like a good plan! We love the freedom of this lifestyle. Experience over possessions any day. We offer lots of advice about what we have learned on the road. If you ever have questions we will do our best to help. Take care and hope to see you on the road someday
@@oneadVANtureatatime that’s for sure it’s easier that way, stress free and not worrying about material things. If I think of anything I’ll let you know 😊
Tires are very important. In about four years, most tires are supposed to be air free and last longer. Millions are probably going into the landfill (or burned) every day, so this is very important. December 2019
If your personal safety is an issue, I have purchased right at 50 stun guns/personal alarms from a company called womenonguard.com. They are also on Facebook. The most important thing is how you recharge your stun gun. Some recharge via wall socked and prongs built into the unit. Others use a USB charger. You want to charge the unit for eight hours on arrival and then I would set my phone to remind me to charge it for a couple of hours every four weeks. Read the directions!!! I buy these for my extended nieces. I'm a retired cop and safety for them is paramount. These are very inexpensive.
Great Van build! I live in Sarasota and would love to see this van in person. I have a Ford Transit that I'm working on and just got some great ideas.. Thanks for the video.
Will G What year is your Ford Transit? I live in St. Pete. I just bought a 2018 Ford Transit and am building it out in my spare time. Oddly enough, I only have the floor done right now and every time I see a video like this one, my imagination for floor plans goes a little crazy. This ever happen to you? Have a blessed day, Big Silver Bear.
@@bigsilverbear4187 I have a 2017 mid roof. My floor is completed and the ceiling is insulated. In the back I have a box /garage built for my bikes. I have paused the build out to decide on the final floor plan. So many options. Cool name "Big Silver Bear" Silver is a must.
@@willg967 Are you going to the RV show in Tampa in January? The wife and I plan on picking some brains of vendors. I am in the same boat as you. I only have the floor done and the ceiling insulated. I have a hard time deciding on a floor plan even after 2 years of planning and research. The wife and I are camping in the van for 3 days in Salt Springs the weekend. Just gonna throw a mattress, cooler and a few basic supplies and enjoy this weather anyway. Plus we can hook up to shore power via extension cord.
This is still the best Murphy bed design we have seen in two years of van life.Thank you for watching. If you have any questions please ask. We love to be helpful and share our experiences.
One of the things I'm still debating. Fixed bed like Chrome or a foldable like that one. I know I don't want the hassle of a foldable that pulls out. I think I have talked myself into a fixed to start and then see where the usable space takes me. Having spent so much time living in a truck sleeper a van seems huge by comparison. Thanks for the tour!
I made my bed mounted on side wall with hinges so i can put it up if i I need space to haul stuff or whatever, very easy , one step process, I left room between edge of bed and cabinets so I can walk thru to the back , I leave bed down most of time while camping or traveling so I can rest whenever, I like to be able to exit front or back. I store much stuff under bed , in plastic bins from Walmart or milk crates, I left enough room under bed to be able to stack 2 milk crates high, this way I still get to utilize my van as a truck of sorts, when needed.
Nicely done Lauren! Nice use of space and I love the Murphy bed. Normally not a fan, but your setup is great. That sounds like a great road trip, enjoy, you are going to love going through BC if you go that route. Vancouver Island may be off your route but it's worth a trip, maybe on your way back down. :) Thanks for sharing your lovely home, and you are never alone when you have a dog. :)
Definitely, the best Murphy bed set up we have seen so far. Pretty cool bathroom also. Bc sounds like it will require a whole summer or more to explore! So many amazing areas to look forward to.
Great build! For someone that is looking to build/purchase their first van I would love to hear what changes someone would make after living in the van for a year.
