Adventures of Ellery Queen: Man Who Enjoyed Death
ComicWeb Classic TV
released 1950 mystery detective tv show
Ellery Queen is a crime fiction house name created by Frederic Dannay and Manfred Bennington Lee, and later used by other authors under Dannay and Lee's supervision. Books using this pseudonym were written from 1929 to as late as 1973. Dannay and Lee's main fictional character, whom they also named Ellery Queen, is a mystery writer who helps his father Richard Queen, a New York City police inspector, solve baffling murders. Most of the more than thirty novels and several short story collections in which Ellery Queen appeared as a character were written by Dannay and Lee. Other authors were commissioned and supervised by Dannay and Lee to write crime thrillers under the Ellery Queen authorial name, but not featuring Ellery Queen as a character. The Adventures of Ellery Queen was telecast on the DuMont Television Network from October 19, 1950, to December 6, 1951[3] and then on ABC from December 16, 1951, to November 26, 1952. This series starred Richard Hart as Ellery Queen in the first season and Lee Bowman in the role in later seasons. (Hart died suddenly of a heart attack in January 1951.) Florenz Ames played Inspector Richard Queen.

At 77, I watched "Ellery Queen" from 1950, when its original star, Richard Hart unexpectedly died of a heart attack & was replaced by Lee Bowman in early 1951! John Newland, (Charles Boone), who later became the host of the t.v. show "One Step Beyond", was excellent as a "psycho killer"! /Years later, ca. 1966, I was in the same NY Army National Guard unit as Lee Bowman's son, Lucien Lee Bowman, until he left for O.C.S. training! Small world!

Originally telecast on March 29, 1951. John Newland was "Charles Boone". He appeared on many live TV programs in New York at the time. Music by Ray Carter.

A spouse can't testify against their partner, even back in those days. Ellery had nothing to present in court against him, although I suppose he could have pushed to have the (innocent) wife tried for the crime. Pretty damn flimsy evidence for that, though.

A spouse can't "BE FORCED" to testify against their partner! They can, if they choose!
