This new AEA Challenger Elite Big Bore is regulated and the most powerful regulated 357 on the market. This video focuses on the Power Test that Backyard AirGuns is known for. We test 16-gauge plate steel at 50 yards down range. We also test on the 40 slat Penetration Box and this rifles passes the Glock 9mm on penetration.

Great illustration of the power of this rifle. However, based on your fps and fpe statistics it's a little misleading. A 145gr 9mm can generate around 400+ fpe. Almost double what the rifle is doing. The nosler slogs are performing pretty much like solids. Hence, the great penetration . I wish content creators would leave the firearm comparisons out of the equation. It draws the wrong kind of attention to the airgun world and invites more regulation...

very true, course what can a 9mm firearm do with a 125gr solid? my .357 big bore challenger unregulated , does 320fpe with that. and i seriously have not seen any 9mm firearm get 400fpe sir. it would have to be hand loaded hot as hell. and i can only get 378 fpe with a 200gr solid in my big bore. and the 9mm firearm my buddy has can't get more than 300fpe on a good day, so i would really like to know where you are getting your info and what kind of ammunition is doing that 400fpe. cause i call junk till ya do.

Wonderful video, I’ll contribute to the pool of data you’re doing such a good job of collecting. I did a test of a .308 air rifle vs 124 grn hard cast 9mm hand load. The velocity of the 9mm is very close to 1100 fps (~330 fpe). The air rifle is pushing a 173 grn cast bullet at ~870 fps for close to 290 fpe. The target is made of 3/4” pine boards screwed together in blocks of 5 and then taped together to hold the total of 10 boards. The target was shot at 50 yards. The two projectiles preformed similarly as both as cast lead. The 9mm took several attempts to score a hit. The .308 took one attempt. Not sure how this matches up to your testing but I think these two rifles are close in punching ability, in these tests anyway. As this test was run at 50 yards it does offer some data collected at reasonable distance. The AEA 357 is pretty slick. Need to feed it some heavier lead without the mag and see what she can actually punch out. I’m guessing she’ll easily exceed 300 fpe with the right weigh projectile. Cheers! Thanks Motor for the positive feedback. I have to get me an Airforce in 308 or larger; I have the Talon P in 25 cal and it's can do about 70 fpe. For my Elite 357 I actually cranked the reg to about 215 from 190 and 200 bar and it shot worst. I was getting close to 300 bar but the accuracy fell off and the 145g slug started to wobble at the higher speed and it did not penetrate as far. Your idea on using a heavier slug might work; I will have to try it out!
@motorgearhead
@motorgearhead 4 месяца назад
@@backyardairguns - had similar experience with lighter slugs in the .308. There is a sweet spot. Go past it and accuracy suffers. Heavy slugs seem to provide power & stay stable.

smiles and the non regulated .357 big bore does get that 320-370fpe energy level, and yes the aea .30cal cgallenger 32inch barrel with a .284dia 162gr fmj slid backwards down the muzzle easily gets over 300fpe. giggles and the fmj can be shot into rubber mulch through steel a couple times before it even starts opening up. because it is moving under 1300fps it wont peel the jacket. ooohhhh armor piercing whooyahh.

@@AIRGUNZ_MILITIA - wow, I’d love to see the 30 cal challenge get over 250 fpe. Granted I’ve not seen a 30 loaded like a muzzle loader with a sub-caliber projectile slide down the barrel! Can you post that for us so we can see how it works out? I’m guessing accuracy with a 28 cal projectile will be suffering somewhat. Then again, anything is possible.
@AIRGUNZ_MILITIA
@AIRGUNZ_MILITIA Месяц назад
@@motorgearhead it is like this, i have the projectiles. .284 is not that much less than .300 and one of my buddies found that .298 is actually best for that gun. the barrel is 32inches long so that is a lot of time to stabilize using the air spinning through the rifleing around the projectile. but when i drop one down the barrel of my challenger pro and shoot it , it puts out over 200fpe like 208fpe in a challenger pro. i cannot seem to get anyone to sell me a 32 inch challenger .30cal but the math is correct. ifyou watch the videos of the challenger 32inch barrel .30cal, you can figure the math on a projectile that weight, by figuring the velocity of it with 110gr and with 54gr and noteing the base velocity with the 44.75 . and you will get somewhere in the mid 900's and at 920fps you break 300fpe with a 162gr projectile. everyone complaining about that airgun having too much power, they always turn it down, but no one tries to find the weight it needs to become accurate and stable. and btw that projectile is over 2 inches long so the balistic coefficient is so high it is very effin stable the longer it stays in the barrel. now i would suggest not using a moderator just in case. but when my friend in washington a bullet caster, shot one i sent him out of his 32 inch challenger .30 cal. he said it blew his chronograph over and did not read, but hit the bullseye and went through his backstop , across the road and off into the woods. he said that projectile was too dangerous to shoot again out of that rifle. his backstop is rated for a 30.06 firearm and that thing made swiss cheese out of it. so me i am just stating the obvious math. if you can squeeze a projectile that weight into that magwell and into the breach go ahead and try. i will tell ya the limit is a 140gr lead at .298... and that does get very close, but you would have to get the video yourself. i am doing stuff more fun with .51cal these days and i do not intend to try buying a 32inch challenger .30cal anymore. too many times i was thwarted from doing so. have fun with it. think about the video with the 110grain lead, how fast was that you find it and tell me. how much more weight can go in that breach and still be over 920fps. only 30-35gr needed. because i am pretty sure 162gr is too much even though the energy level of the rifle is more than that. way more than that. i would postulate that if a .298 or .299 dia projectile could be found the maximum length that can fit into the breach. you would be over 300fpe and still be above the threshhold of the rifles energy level. the energy level of a airgun is equal to the weight in grains that the air gun can spit at 671fps. that is the foot pounds of energy that gun can exibit. as you increase velocity the weight goes down , but the energy does not. untill you get past 922fps and then you start losing energy as you increase weight and have to suppliment with more energy. of course this is balistic science. and does not give a crap about accuracy. course the pellet experts would say a pellet flys best between 880fps and 920fps, hmmm i wonder why. but in that air rifle, you are an idiot if you shoot pellets, that is a slug gun. just like my .357 big bore, but yuou can watch terry's video on it and see for yourself the energy of the bullpup model with a 124g . he gets 1078fps. so me stating 1076fps with a 125gr solid when i have a 600cc tank instead of the 500cc tank the bullpup has. is conservative. another slug gun. and they gave me 800pellets with it when i bought it. effin useless 81gr pellets jsb and vortex strikes. they are still in the tins they came in unopened. course when i get the T9 i will need them in that pistol. smiles. enjoy yourself chasing that energy in the .30cal. you really need to just spend the 200 bucks and get a custom mold for .298dia for that rifle. you might buy some 130gr .308 lead and resize it for starters to find the weight you need. or upto a 140gr but it has to be lead and no jacket cause the jacket will catch on the rifleing. that is why i used fmj and 162gr so it would not get caught on the rifleing, but slide along it like a rollercoaster along the rails untill the air picked it up and spun it and that was the tale of the bullet i dubbed , "the oh jesus bullet" smiles. because it does stuff it shouldn't like go through steel and not peel away its jacket. acts like an armor piercing round at anything less than 1300fps, and it cannot get there in an air gun. i put one through a steel house door 3 times and the jacket just barely started peeling at the tip. i set it to the side and told myself , that one is gonna be for a home invader. just drop it down the muzzle after cocking, and hear the thunk and pull the trigger. cause i think it mighe open up the next time it is shot. mind ya with a challenger pro at 130fpe energy level that makes it get a velocity of 821 and that put the energy of the projectile at around 233fpe. in a challenger pro. so just think the difference between challenger pro .30cal and challenger 32inch .30cal. good day.

Hi Randy. The reg on the AEA Challenger Elite series are externally adjustable which is really a great feature. The 30 and 357 Cal Long Barrel rifles have internal reg that have to be degassed and tank removed to adjust. The scope I used in this video was the Bushnell ED Match Pro. It's a very solid scope with great ED glass. I think it's about $700. Thanks for watching!
