By kind permission of the Amber Valley Camcorder Club, and narrated by Dave Whittle.
Seen here on the 2004 Limestone Run around Derbyshire, organised every October by Terry Mellor.
I have very little footage of this vehicle in it's finished state, and there won't be any more as it was sold on, I still have the trailer and cradled textile machine, and that can be seen being pulled by my 1957 AEC Mandator ballast tractor at various shows around the Notts' and Derbys' area.

Beautiful, I passed my class 1 , in April 1974 in a Mandator , with a four in line trailer .

Looks a good restoration but another perfect example why the UK truck industry is no more. Most hauliers left the likes of AEC, ERF and Sudden Accident and went for Scania and Volvo. Even ERF afficionados Jack Richards had gone over to a range of Volvo F7 and F10's by 1988...

Got my class 1 before the test came into force and after driving some absolute old crocks l went to a firm in Hastings and one was presented with a new one in green.............................but i was still doing rope and sheet.

company my father drove for j&h transport services(peckham) ran lots of a.e.c. Mercurys on trunk, and two from the Liverpool depot on contract to cadburys with dry freight box vans. classics!

Frank Thomas my dad drove a tanker back in the 70s for ABCO. Orange and white livery on a Leyland Beaver. Same shape cab and recall semi auto gearbox. Not sure what engine it had but not v8 going by sound. Even remember the registration, AYE 5H.

I drove one of these but mine had the split screen and a full crash box I found that it was better not to use the clutch and rely on your ear to get the revs right, also you had to be a bit of a mechanic as the injector pipes were forever breaking so we allways carried spares you froze in the winter and cooked in the summer,Do I miss those days not efing likley

uncle albert I took my test in one at Ipswich. It was from Mendlesham Airfield where a school was run by Bartrums and Anglia Heavy Haulage. 6 speed crash box with odd top gear. Reverse U I seem to remember. anyway passed first time!

@@takefivevideos constant mesh box, only drivers with no feel made them into crash box, heavy clutch didn't help.

What would be the hp of the v8, I know the av760 six cylinder was 240hp, so this must be more.

The 1st V8 AEC engine (AV8 740) as in this one, was rated at 247bhp @ 2600rpm and that's the imperial rating. The AV760 was 220bhp, however had a higher torque rating, so fairly evenly matched, including displacement with only 20 cubic inch difference, or be it two cylinders less on the 760.

Are the brakes full air? Is the handbrake of the ratchet type?

Yes mate the foot brake is full air twin circuit. Normally on these the secondary and park were 'lock actuators' but this was converted by Clayton Dewandre (the air brake people who had it new) to spring brakes.

Pure luxury compared to what we had in RCT/RLC. She is a fantastic looking vehicle. The Fodens you have bring a lot of good memories back too.
