I've liked the math on the scorpions since the start of the edition. It played out on the tabletop too where I got stuck going second, the squad got shot off the board down to the exarch, and he went and killed a 5x intercessor and 5x hellblaster squad all on his own.
In two games against Imperial Guard two squads of Scorpions just shredded everything. Even when their numbers got too low to fully kill a squad they still were able to keep them trapped in melee for several fight phases. In another game a squad of Scorpions got Heroically intervened by a Flesh Hounds when charging a full unit of Bloodletters. In that one round of combat the Scorpions killed every single Bloodletter and brought the Skulltaker to 2 wounds while the Exarch killed the unit of Fleshhounds by himself. I love them, a bit sad that my current list doesn't really have enough points leftover for them. Maybe if the Shining Spears turn out completely useless but so far they have been good and I needed something that not only can get on the Point Turn 1 but also at least threaten some damage on a vehicle like a Rhino or Bloat Drone. The Scorpions sadly can't. I could maybe take them instead of the Shroud Runners but I have seen those take such ungodly amounts of punishment and survive while move blocking like pros, giving Lethals, and doing good work against Demons and light infantry. Maybe get rid of the Vyper for them, but again that has done a good job and is really filling a different role than the Scorpions. Long Story short Eldar have too many awesome units I want to take! Fun fact about Biting Blade vs Scorpion's Claw: The latter is better against Vehicles with either T8 or less or T10 or more but worse against pretty much every single other enemy profile in the game.
Interesting i didn't know that the claw was worse by that much! They look pretty much the same on paper give or take but that 4+ really hurts it i suppose. Ya they are not for every list though really depends on what else you are bringing to the table!
@@ProxyHammer1 The 4+ is a big downside but with how the statistics work out it does seem like the Claw gets a much bigger boost from Karandras than the Blade. Karandras +1 to hit makes the Claw perform pretty much exactly the same as the Blade into MEQ and Terminator equivalents while still keeping it performance better against vehicles that aren't T9 (where they perform the same with the hit boost, Claw worse without). As Karandras himself does enough work against Hordes I might actually switch to using the Claw for Karandra's unit and the Blade for any other Scorpion units. Edit: Though if you use it with a Falcon reroll that changes it again and profits the Biting Blade more.
Played 3x5 of these in my last 2 games. 2 squads infiltrating, and one with Karandras in a Falcon. I can indeed confirm that these do great! The infiltrating units are a bit dependent on who goes first, especially against a melee heavy army you might not want to put them near objectives in case your opponent goes first, charges them, and by doing so made it firmly on to the midfield with you then needing to fight them off again. At the very least they'll screen out enemy scouts/infiltrators. Best case scenario is going first, and depending on the situation, pulling them back or charging in early to tie up vehicles etc. Last game they did wonders for me, mopping up small units here and there, contesting and claiming objectives throughout the game while my other aspects did secondaries. For the cost these are an absolutely awesome little unit! And yeah, Karandras SLAPS!
Totally agree! I’m loving using them as well and the other day I ran karandras with 5 scorps and they brutalized an aggressor unit to the point where my opponent got a bit salty lol 😂
Typical fake empiricists, ruled by abstractions instead of the immediate pure experience they putatively pay lip service to. If I lose a coin flip 5 times in a row I don’t whine about probability, I understand there is some trickery afoot, whether by scoundrel or cosmic imbalance of some sort.
So, Scorpions don't necessarily do it for me, regarding Aspect Warriors; over 20 years of being a fan, I've always liked the Fire Dragons most, and then second place has kind of been a free for all between Dark Reapers, Warp Spiders, and Shadow Spectres. I've always wished the Dire Avengers never existed, and that the Shining Spears felt more distinct from other Eldar jetbike units, but beyond all that whining, I am glad to see that Striking Scorpions are doing well. My tastes aside, I know that they, and Banshees, have classically been the common AW choices (opinion), and I'm glad they can be a good choice, as well as their Phoenix Lord. Some, like Warp Spiders, don't even get one, and others, like Irillyth, just sort of suck? He doesnt even have jumppack, or fly, so especially in a setup where Autarchs can't join, it's nice to see they have a good, hard-hitting option. I wish that Warp Spiders and Shadow Spectres were in a better place, but I'm glad it's because they were too good, prior, and not because they just sucked, and no one was taking them. Still, unrelated, I sincerely hope that one change Eldar get in their codex is allowing the Autarch to join Aspect Warriors squads. I get certain bits of why; his role is different, and numerous players wouldn't want him ensconced in a forward-moving, combat-iminent unit, and certain squads might mandate particular war gear, like needing a bike, or pack, to join a bike-or pack-unit, but it just feels like the epitome of Aspect training should be in squads with similar training, instead of basically militia, or at least also have that option. Kind of like Shadow Spectres, I'm not holding my breath, and expecting to see it in, but I can hope.😊
Agreed on almost all points you just said. I've been playing since 5th. Dark reapers, striking scorpions, and shadow specters are my favorites since then. It's been nice to have at least one type pretty good at a time this edition.
Great vid! Scorpions feel really worth it points wise for screening and occasionally messing up light infantry or 5 model MEQ units. Especially if you go first. Just a noote on screening jump pack infantry, they all have fly so can move over your units without penalty. To screen them out you're looking to position your units close together so when they charge they can't just hop over your screening unit and into your backline.
The facts scopions THE STEALTH aspects doesnt have stealth is criminal. Love the scopions and the Phoenix though. But they do have the fishing for 6s problem.
@@ProxyHammer1 honestly i'm not mad that i just got the whole kill team salvation box, the space marine scouts just got a huge buff for kill team so i'm using those a bunch too lol!
Lately I`ve also anjoyed other type of alpha strike unit in form of Yvraine and quins in Serpent. Move Yvraine from serpent, throw granade, shoot Yvraine and quins. Move serpent close to enemy and shoot all guns and wave serpent shield. Charge with serpent and tankshock. Before combat even started we have 2-4 fusion shots, Yvraine shots annnnnd 15 mortal wounds on 5+ plus d3 mortal wounds! Its also very easy to screen Yvraines unit with Serpent for oponents turn this way. Also I found it better to have two units of quins in serpent then one big. Same amount of fusion guns one more character.
Good stuff! Trying get a solid list together with falcons and Phoenix lords just to get Karandras and Asurman back the table. Hail of doom with scorpians perhaps?!?!?!
I need a reason to not put my Eldar away again. None of the advice I've seen so far has worked for me. Im constantly fighting armies that have higher T, more Wounds, Inv saves, FNP, AND STILL MORE MODELS. There are not enough attacks in the list to deal with Ork Wagggh turns, Turn 1 Eight Bound, or any other number of things. Roll 6s isn't a plan.
Bring some Windriders and screen out your opponent's units to buy yourself time. You need to sometimes be willing to use your units as a screen to prevent movement
@@ProxyHammer1 I have definitely done that. It still doesn't buy enough time. I've been playing world eaters and orks. They have gleefully eaten my screening unit, absorbed all of the fire, then charged the next line. I'm trading 3 units to kill 1. My meta is moving away from MSU, and leaning to 10 man squads of relevant things. Things like wraithlords etc just don't have attacks in volume enough to get through the numbers. You refer to scorpions losing 50% and still charging. I don't recall the last time I had any part of a scorpion squad live through a round of fire. My opponents don't spread their attacks and usually have 2 to 4 per model vs my 1 to 2 per. The math just fails. Thanks for the help though. I will keep trying, but right now the best Eldarlike list I can make would use the marine codex.
@@danielwideman5255 Join the discord if you havent already, its free and lots of players are willing to give advice, id even be willing to talk you through some play by play strats myself! Don't get discouraged it will get better, Eldar math point for point is never going to beat the cheap fodder armies that just run at you. You have to eliminate one side of the battlefield and make it hard for them to move
@@danielwideman5255 I think its a combination of having enough trash and damage dealing units. Of course there are going to be games where your opponent stages on the line, advances, just makes all their charges and you lose haha. That's why they play that army. On the flip side if their gamble fails and you deployed correctly YOU win. Unfortunately we're not in a position where expensive, fragile units can trade 1v1. Spiders, spectres ect are good but, point for point, you're right, they don't trade well into eightbound and the like. Most of our success will come from playing for the scoreboard rather than tabling our opponent now. I'm a firm believer in the MSU style lists but that's just my playstyle. Minimum 14-18 efficient units to play the game and multiple units with the ability to fight in all phases. Tie up your opponent, slow them down, deny them points and dictate the terms. Get to turn 3 with at least half your army and you got a game! Like the video said, scorpians are a perfect fit for this playstyle. Scorpians, shroud runners, Fire dragons, falcons, windriders, rangers, harlequins 😏, War Walkers, and the Avatar are all hyper efficient units for the points. For some reason I feel like a lot of players are stuck in the mindset of playing only our BEST units instead of how your army functions on the whole. Don't give up yet! Join the discord! Lets talk about it 😅
What do you think about using a squad of 5 without Karandras to infiltrate to one of the positions you designated plus a squad with Karandras in a Falcon and using the Falcon's Deepstrike to rapid ingress, deploy , move, charge in your next turn
I'm not understanding the falcon alpha strike. When a transport makes a normal move disembarking units can't move or make a charge. So that's gonna leave them vulnerable for a turn?
It's generally a turn 2 alpha strike with the melee units. Or if you go second you may have a chance on your turn 1. Alphas on turn 0 gw has avoided fairly well these days in 10th I'd say. But the falcons with payload hit harddd.
Bro you've got some really good content, but I can't handle the completely over-exaggerated click-bait titles. It makes it feel like your target audience is 14 year olds, and it's a big turn off. Just thought I'd share the opinion, but I love your strategies.
I'm really not convinced the titles are click bait, Scorpions are filthy, they are a great unit. Thank you for the input though ill keep it in mind and try not to make them too outrageous
@@davidgoodman3806 Thanks 😆 I find them funny myself which is why I do it. I find I wanted to do something different than some of the other 40K channels out there with really boring and stale titles and thumbnails
I thought adding 1 to hits and wounds didnt work on things like lethal hits and devastating wounds. Is it a change in the rules or am i looking at false info on reddit lol
They are despicable?! Lmfao 🤣 Scorpions are absolutely filthy! Great unit! Filthy=really good 👍 not really clickbait imho but I’ll see what I can do to make the essence of my videos more clear
