Sometimes you just have to trim the roots on your AeroGarden plants. Why? Roots can plug the pump, float, and tank of your AeroGarden causing problems.

wow..thank you! being fairly new to Aerogarden I was stumped as to how people kept growing plants.....my roots were taking over everything!! Its good to know I can trim them back. I just started new things today in my freshly cleaned out AG. Can't wait to try this technique. Looks like you have a great setup. I'll have to stalk your channel to see if you have tour up. thanks again!! subbed as well.

Nice,I always trim the roots. That is the best thing about hydroponics you can see how healthy your plant is by looking at the roots. I like to change my water before the next feeding so I can wash the tank and inspect the roots. It is not really required it is how I like to do it.

Haha! I've been so afraid to trim the roots of my plants. I didn't want to shock my plant or trim too much. But this is perfect. Nothing too crazy, just a lil off the top. Lol. Do you still use the AeroGarden nutrients for fruiting plants? I'm determined to get a little patty pan squash, but keep getting blossom rot. At least that's what I think is happening. Thank you for this SUPER informative video. Help me a great deal.

Great video Kris, and caught a glimpse of those Beit Alpha cucumber seeds from Bakers Creek in the background. Can't wait to see the results growing those. About the Napa cabbage, have you considered placing single large plant to the side of the garden where it is farther away from the pump and water level indicator? The light would be stronger on one side of the plant, but the plant could be turned to keep it balanced in growth. Your thoughts?
@littletechgirl2
@littletechgirl2 2 года назад
Thank you so much! I am still waiting for the cucumber seeds to germinate. I put the cabbage plant kind of in the middle so there is clearance all around. I have beans on one side in another garden and tomatoes on the other. But, I think once I trim off those large side leaves I think it will be ok. I will try to keep doing that regularly as the head forms. :)

Hi I'm new to this indoor gardening! At 6:45 when you cut the roots about 2 to 3 inches from the pod, is it okay to do that in general as a practice for literally anything planted? Or just cabbage specifically? I'm growing 4 heads of lettuce, sage, thyme, basil on one of my machines and the 3 lettuces I planted about a month ago are really starting to form. I have no idea when to cut any of the roots so I want to make sure I do it right so it doesn't get too crowded.

@littletechgirl2

You're welcome. I don't really have a set amount of time that I do it. I just kind of keep a check on them and do it when needed.

Good video but why did you leave the dead roots in the water after cutting them??
@littletechgirl2

I didn't. Just didn't show myself pulling them out, dripping water all over the floor, and throwing them away. Lol

It looks like you are growing spinach. I thought the light was too warm fro spinach. What kind is it?
@littletechgirl2
@littletechgirl2 Год назад
Hi Vicki! I was not growing any spinach. However, it is possible. It's just very picky about germination.

So I am new to this whole thing but I learned that since it is aeroponics not hydroponics the roots should not be in the water but only getting water when the pump kicks on. I trim mine off so they are barely touching the water, and getting lots of AIR
@littletechgirl2
@littletechgirl2 Год назад
No. Sorry. That is not accurate. Hydroponics is a broad term that covers all kinds of growing including aeroponics, nft, dwc, and more. And it is perfectly fine for the roots to be in the water. But aeroponics is the act of running the water over the roots. Versus something like dwc that just pushes oxygen through the water. And of course there is Kratky which is a different form of Hydroponics which is passive and the bottom of the roots are in the water while the top of the roots stay dry to form air roots.
