Hwyl... Found it 2 years ago and I was enchanted by its smokiness and the feeling of being surrounded by old Hiba cypress trees. In Welsh, Hwyl (pronounced hwill) means “stoic” or “unemotional”. This scent isn’t about frenetic motion or strong feelings - Perfumer Barnabé Fillion explains, “It’s meant to recapture the stillness and feeling when you are alone in nature, considering it as a refuge.” The scent is completely floral-free. Vetiver gives it a smoky airiness, cypress adds woodiness, frankincense contributes earthiness, and sandalwood imparts smoothness and sensuality. Thank you for reviewing it - I always love to hear your thoughts 🖤
this is an old comment but I thought I needed to let you know that Hwyl is in fact pronounced Hoil (like boil), the pronunciations online that say "hwill" are very wrong
I love basically everything from Aesop. I've been layering Hwyl with Tacit for the past few months and feel like they work so well together. Citrus, woodsy and herbal all at once.
Not many RU-vidrs review on this. But Aesop's line of perfume is so unique and exquisite smelling. I've been trying to find more affordable replacements, but sadly I can't. They're so beautiful I'm willing to shell out more money to get them.
Hi Sebastian, Barnabe Fillon is the nose for Marrakech Intense, Hwyl and Rozu. Tacit was created by Celine Barel, who also did Squid by Zoologist. Apparently Barnabe Fillon is also the nose behind Aesop's range of room sprays and candles
Tried on the Rozu in store recently and it's just as you said, the floral notes surprised me after 30 minutes of wearing. Started getting compliments so I have to go back for it now.
My mom only bought Rōzu because she loves Charlotte Perriand, to whom perfume is dedicated. Luckily she doesn't like it and she gave to me...I love it. I also like Hwyl because hinoki is absolutely my cup of tea.
Love hwyl, it’s like cdg’s hinoki but with better longevity and projection (although if I’m honest I prefer CdG but it’s so short-lived). I noticed A Nose Knows reviewed this one, was hoping you’d get around to it!
I especially love their body care. The skincare that I’ve tried is also good. But, you can’t be sensitive to essential oils. I have sensitive skin, but I’ve never had a negative reaction to their products. Unfortunately, I haven’t smelled their perfumes, as far as I can remember.
Your description of Rōzu reminds me of Kalan by Parfums de Marley if it had rose in it. Even down to a cumin accord that's not listed. Thanks for your reviews!
Thank you so much for this video! I have been wanting to check out Aesop's fragrances and I had tried Rozu and kinda like it. I may just take the plunge and get it after all! 😍Before watching your video, I had thought Rozu resembled Le Labo's Rose 31 too! 😉
My brother, who lives in Australia, gave me Tacit as a present and i absolute love it. I am a citrus, female fragrance lover but this however had me obsessed. Would you be able to recommend ones that might be in the same “family” as Tacit that I might love as well? Thank you!
The Marrakech Intense Parfum is the best and it comes in a 10ml roll on and is the most expensive. It’s pure Parfum, not even EDP. To give you an idea, the Marrakech Intense EDT is SGD 115 for 50ml, the roll on is SGD 120 for 10ml. Aesop is a brilliant brand and their products are very good - the mouthwash, the bamboo scrub, etc.
I'm gonna check out their fragrances, now I'm curious. I'm personally not a huge fan of this brand, I think that for the price, the cosmetics could have been at least made with organic oils ( I owned an organic grocery in France, I know how much these stuffs cost). But if you say these are good, I may give it a chance. I would definitely check Rōzu first.
Rozu is my signature scent but all the others scents are a better bang for your buck. In my opinion Also I recommend anyone to try the daily facial skin regimen they offer.
Hwyl kinda reminds m3 (just slightly) of Amou's Memoir. Especially throughout the end of hearts towards the dry down. Other times it stands on its own. Definitely not a resemblance. It's less dark n 'haunting' than Memoir i feel. Fresher. Less dense or what u sophisticated noses often refer to as resinous?
Can anybody give me an idea how long Aesop fragrances last? I’ve had experiences where some EDP literally last 40-45 mins before you can’t smell it anymore.
Hwyl has almost the exact same main accord/heart notes as CdG Hinoki but the opening and base are a bit different. The opening is spice instead of camphor and the base smells more obviously like ISO E Super to me which might contribute to longevity. I prefer Hinoki personally.
These are not screamers as I mentioned but to be conservative Tacit would work best. But personally all should if you wear not too many sprays. Must test them all out first though! :)
Just a heads up of you're getting into skincare avoid denatured alcohols and fragrance in skincare products, especially essential oils. Some good channels for skincare I'd recommend are Dr. Dray, Hyram, and Liya Yoo.
@@ThePerfumeGuy @robered and me picked some really good ones in greece. Black Sugar Oriental Lily Violet, L'eau de Parfum 20 and Tonka Brown: Magic Happens are really really good
