AESPA - vocal analysis 

Ningning’s vibrato is extremely satisfying to me, her lows are healthy and her highs are pleasant enough to make me like her voice the most, it stands out although Karina has a pretty outstanding voice too. I’d definitely look out for these two especially

what i really admire about ningning is how incredibly free her very high “belts” sound. like a lot of vocalists just try to squeeze the note out of their throat but her E5s - G5s still sound so free which is crazy

Really hoping that both Giselle and Karina have the desire to improve. Giselle being main rapper, lead vocal material 👀 and Karina’s tone? If she pulled a Luna/Taemin that would be amazing.

My biggest problem with people talking about Aespa vocals is that they acting like we already seen everything the girls can do vocally when it not the case. Aespa is just a year old group and most of the members just enter their 20. I think they have so much room for improvement. The first example that come to my mind is Ariana Grande (i am not saying aespa vocal can compare to her btw), if you compare her voice when she first started and now, she almost seem like a different vocalist when all she did is improve her technique. Or another better example, Taeyeon from snsd. Her technique also got alot better compare to her debuts years. My point is, people should let aespa time to breathe and let them enjoy their debut years. If this was at least their second going to third year, i would understand the need to focus so much on their voices, but it not.

My theory is SM will suddenly make aespa sing live to surprise audience just like they hide winter's vocal so hard before debut.. not revealing everything at the beginning is SM's classic strategy

Ningning and Winter are the best main and lead vocalist duo of 4th gen. No one will argue with that. Giselle's vocals is superb for someone who's a main rapper of a group. Clearly, she can be a lead vocalist if she was in another group. Don't forget that she's the backbone of Aespa. She's got most part in hidden vocals. Same for Karina right there, our main dancer, who can pass as a main vocalist in other groups. I think she has the best vocal color in Aespa. Her voice is so distinctive and it adds flavor to Aespa's songs. AESPA QUEENS.

I really, but like, REALLLLLYYYYYY, want karina to improve so bad, gosh I just love her voice so much, I would absolutely love for her to get better. I know that singing was always what she really wanted to do so I hope she improves so that SM will give her even more singing lines. Also , am I the only one who lives for ningning’s softer belts ? Like idk they just feel so nice and relaxing to the ear.

Fun Fact: NingNing have the best low register in the entire 4th gen. Since she’s one of the two vocalist who can carry support down to G3 consistently and F#3 at best. Making her almost on par with Wendy and Taeyeon on lower register 🤧

People underestimated NingNing a lot and I mean it A LOT. I remember during BM era some people said that Winter should had been the main vocalist 💀 and some people even said the she is below Yuri. Like she just debuted give her time😟

Aespa is like the combination of Taeyeon, Yuri, Luna and Wendy's vocal in one group. Imagine what future they have

i like Winter's tone the most but Karina reallllllly surprised me with her vocal skills, especially in Dream comes true

Love the part that Winter was the dark horse of the team, she was unknown and when she showcased her talent she shined as she should be LETS GO LITTLE ROCKSTAR!

I feel kinda sad that on Ningning's part where it said she needs confidence, after all the backlash she received, Im afraid on how her confidence is. Her vocals having different like persons singing in each song and her low notes, I do hope she is (and everyone in general) feels better

My favorite voice tone in AESPA is definitively Karina's but Ningning's skills and approach bring heaven to me!

What I love about Ningning vocals are how CLEAR it sound. Either when she sing low notes, middle notes, or high notes you still can hear her development compared to the other girls which is quite insane considering the others are still very good vocalists too overall and also I think her pronountiation are also good too. Tbh a little bit rant but I dislike when people comparing her with other main vocalists and told the other main vocalists are better, they only take into account of her issue with light mixing or nasality and totally ignored her development in low notes. Her lower notes arguably the best one in 4th gen and there still no other 4th gen girls that surpassing her low notes development.

karina and giselle are very underrated. I find they have the nicest voice colors in the group and I love that they don't sound like sm at all. I'd like to see these two's unit, the combination of their voices is so harmonious and pleasant to the ear, I remember when they sang "aespa it's me, there can't be two" live and it was such a crazy good combination that I didn't know about. I also think they sound very good with English pronunciation, have a good accent and vocals with that natural sassy feeling on a more distinctive side. it's a pity that sm doesn't use it for their intl popularity. karina with a similar key to her "XI" covers by Code Kunst ft Lee Hi and giselle with her synk or next level key as rappers + their vocals...this duo would be so powerful if they made their debut under yg. they have neither solid rap parts nor solid vocal parts under sm imo. I'd like to see more of them.

Ningning reminds me a lot to Ariana Grande, maybe cause both sing high a lot of time and they have free moments, but Ningning's accent make me fall in love, it's a special thing that she has and I love it. She is my bias of course🥰

i think since rosé in 2016, karina is the first vocalist i enjoy so much listening to. her tone is heavenly, she's by far my fav 4th vocalist alongside with ningning.

Giselle is literally the backbone she sings the backing vocals too as in the instrumental

also, most female main vocalists from SM started at her level, an example is Luna, she was an above average vocalists, and look at her now, same with taeyeon

And the fact that all of them can support speaks a lot about their talent vocal-wise. Find a group where all members can support.

I'm very much interested about Ningning voice. I think her voice is very feminine yet deep. Her voice suitable for both dark/strong vibe songs and also sweet songs like "way", which she Collab with onew.

Ningning will always be the superior 4th gen main vocals, no new gg can outsing her.

Ningning is a great vocalist for many reasons including the training she's had for it. It's not just that she's naturally capable but she has really been improving since she was very young. I like her voice it's not nasal or very high pitched which I notice a lot in K-pop, not that there is really anything wrong about that it's just not my cup of tea.

i have a prediction which i think is going to come true for aespa's next comeback and that is live singing, they have already received a lot of backlash for not singing live and also aespa are not rookies anymore so sm is going to let them sing live. Maybe not a lot but still...i will take all the live vocal crumbs i can get tbh 😃

Here’s my take: Ningning has the better technique and more powerful vocals + the vibrato is chef’s kiss 😘👌🏻 She also doesn’t seem to have any difficulty going from low to high register and vice-versa. Winter has the most unique vocal tone and color (my favorite). Her voice is also very sweet. However, the songs that suit her the most are those like the ones she sang in Knowing Bros. Though, she’s really good with the growls as well (Yoo Young Jin style since she was trained by him). Karina’s is more raspy and husky, which I really like - a vocal tone that majority are attracted to since her voice is naturally deeper than most as well. She’s also one who can manipulate her voice to sound different when she raps versus when she’s singing. Giselle has some singing/ harmonizing background since she was part of a choir back then. She and Karina are really good with adlibs, but Giselle is especially so. Though I think for her, she definitely has the rapper tone and vibe. In short, these 4 are really good. WinNing are the best vocalists in the 4th gen for sure.

Winter's vocals made me her fan and eventually a My. I like her vocal tone sooooo much, and I find her pronunciation satisfying to hear as well. Their voices are really good even when they're just playing around in radios. Especially when they harmonize, Giselle and Karina's lower voices and Ning and Winter's high voices sounds so good together.

More people should see this video. But yeah obviously everyone focues on the "go aesa give us nothing but lipsync" videos. It's so much easier to hate than to recognise talent

Winter has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, it's just soo soothing and her high notes are so clear, pristine, and sharp, I can't stop myself from listening to them over and over again. Karina is the other singer I love, she has a very specific voice, I could always pick her out her voice in their songs. Those 2 are the ones imma keep my eye out for

NingNing SYNK teaser doesn’t really give her justice to her tone. At first went I watched it her tone wasn’t really my favorite but after Black Mamba until DCT her tone is one of my favorite now

My future prediction for aespa that I hope will come true: NingNing will be a Proficient Vocalist or even Good Winter will be a capable vocalist Karina will be a A-AA Vocalist Giselle will be a Average Vocalist But who know I could be wrong, they might even be better

Ningning is definitely my favorite voice of the 4th gen. She is incredible.

I will never really get tired saying how heavenly Winter's vocal is. Her vocal tone and color really adds special flavor in all their songs. I feel like without her voice, aespa songs wouldn't be as good as it is. There's no doubt on that because she was trained by YYJ who are known for having an eye on choosing his own students who has good vocals and tone like Kyungsoo and Changmin. Has a lot of style of rnb in their voices. As an exo-l and sm stan for years, I am so proud how SM keeps their legacy with their artists. Her vocal tone makes her stands out in every songs their singing. She can sing with her soft voice and she can also go sing high notes effortlessly which I never doubt because she is an sm artist. She is a lead vocalist who can easily pass as a main vocalist in other groups. Well, that's given because she is an sm artist. SM really did a great job hiding her at first because we were all surprised when we heard her voice for the first time in their debut song which is Black Mamba. I remember how mysterious she was that time and how some people thought she is just a visual and an average vocalist but got surprised because of how good her voice is how talented she is. Hearing her voice at first made me think that there is something more behind that voice like she can do more with her voice which is right. Her tone and her runs never fails and it's so satisfying to see how everyone gets addicted on hearing her voice. Another reason why she stands out most of the time is because of her amazing confidence. She knows how good looking and talented she is. That's our ace Winter for you, guys. Other members are also good. They are all great vocalists specially our Ningning. She deserves the position of main vocalist so so much because she is one of a kind. SM never fails choosing their artist and gives them the position they truly deserves. To those people who are disregarding Ningning's position as a main vocalist, you are all funny. Same with how those other people who keeps on disregarding Winter's position as the main visual of the group, Karina as the main dancer and Giselle as the main rapper of the group. They are all talented in their own ways. I hope you learn more to appreciate each one of them without dragging the other members. Remember that they are all still young and can still improve. They can be even more better than what they are right now. They can show more and I'm very excited to see how much they can develop as years goes by. They deserves all the love and recognition they are having right now so please don't ruin it for them. :>

It's not like Aespa can't sing- it's just the fact that SM entertainment is wasting their talents by not letting them sing live.

In 4th gen, only aespa and weeekly passed my list for having a strong and vocally capable vocal line (technicality wise). Edit: lip syncing doesn't equate for being bad vocalist. It doesn't make them less talented and less skilled. And live singing isn't the basis of being a good vocalist .

Sometimes when it gets really high Winter's voice becomes very piercing and it becomes hard to listen to it. Still, I think it would be great to here Aespa sing live. They are very much capable ❤️❤️❤️

Karina and Ningning both have that sweet yet a little husky? (idk how to describe it I'm not trained in western vocals lol) voice that really appeals to me. I find Karina's vocal colour to be very, very beautiful so I'm looking forward to a lot of improvement. As for Ningning I feel like she gets nervous immediately at an approaching high note, and surprisingly, unlike Winter's mixed voice I don't find Ningning's mixed voice annoying. Both of them are a Pandora's box of potential Also another thing, about Ningning's softer belts, from my experience you have to be ridiculously trained to make a vocal belt _soft_ . It's amazing how Ningning can so effortlessly do a soft belt and drop to her full chest voice like it's so satisfying!

People think just because they lip sync they can’t sing. No, they CAN sing but maybe they’re still training to sing while dancing live or SM just won’t let them perform. While it’s still a disappointment, we shouldn’t ignore the talents they clearly have.

aespa just keeps on improving, in their recent comeback they've outdone themselves, ning2 went from a c+ to a b- and karina and giselle are d+ winter is also a solid c-, they're rlly impressive.

something i've always loved about winter is her growls. i haven't seen many female kpop vocalists incorporate such an aggressive growl. most female vocalists in kpop tend to favor a shrill and high toned voice so its quite refreshing to listen to winter in her lower range.

Thank you for the analysis! I've been wanting to know more about Ningning vocals because her skills are usually undermined when comparing 4th gen vocals. But I like her voice so much and knowing SM, she will just continue to improve. I just hope SM let their artists have more live performances going forward.

Winter is my favorite vocalist in the group I really enjoy how she delivers her lines even if she sings the same lines that other members, I find really interesting that in Aespa title tracks she really demonstrates a lot of power, amazing lows, incredible high notes, strong vibrato and even growls, she's giving us full power, and in contrast to that, just see that whenever she has a chance to sing, she give us a dreamy, soft, calmed voice, mainly Head voice (examples: Radio, Knowing brothers, etc). She has this cool diversity when she is Winter in Aespa vs Winter's own choices to sing. I really feel atracted to that.

Finally someone pointed out how ningning got easily nervous singing live. There were multiple times where she hold back, idk she sounded shaky or she sang in lower octave.

No matter how much people are hating on Aespa, their voice and singing talents so called 'flops' are one of the easiest thing to debunk. Now I'm not even surprised why SM makes them lipsync most of the time; it's all to preserve their precious voices. 👍

Jennie and Giselle are both very similar in terms of their roles. They both are main rappers of their group and even tho Jennie is a lead vocalist, Giselle has a lot of potential to become a lead vocalist.

I wouldn't say Lia deals with shallowness from time to time, her best moments are shallow (price tag and can't take my eyes off of you for example are entirely shallow) her usual approach carries pretty much no support at all.

i remember back when aespa debuted there was already controversy about karina being a bad singer, which was just hater speak for “i don’t enjoy her tone”. i wasn’t rlly paying attention to karina’s vocals specifically since she already brings so much to the table and doesn’t need to be a main vocal, but since her line in the pre-chorus of savage i’ve been hooked on her. there’s just something about her tone and delivery that i’m obsessed with and if she sticks to half the training regimen some of the sm veterans have going on, i think she’ll be an absolute monster by the time aespa hits the five year mark.

i think a lot of the hate surrounding their vocals stems from the fact that sm doesn’t really let them sing live (for some reason??). i would loveeeee if sm let the girls sing live so they can truly show their skills!

I wish karina and giselle can sing more in the future. I personally don’t really care about rap so I hope they release like a special album like in the winter or smth that features all of them actually just straight up singing.
