Thank you for this, Lisa. Perfect timing as this has been my area focus. Looking to retire in five years, and moving to Florida had always been the dream. But for reasons already well-known at this point, looking to purchase a single family home was just too pricey by the time you factor in insurance, taxes, etc. so about six months ago, I shifted my focus into tiny homes as an alternative. Initially, it looked promising. However, for all the reasons you’ve discussed, the cost per square foot plus the added obstacles that are found in many locations, made it not a worthwhile pursuit. I have since been shifting my focus into finding a piece of land where I can build precisely what you’re describing: a small home around 800 ft.² or so. Appreciate all the content in your videos. Wondered if in future videos, you could talk about the process for vetting a contractor, and/or tips when looking for land to purchase in the state of Florida. Thank you ❤
Depends.. location is big.. as long as the home is maintained it should bring fair market, you’ll just be dealing with either retirees or people without kids in such a small space.. but a lower cost home will be attractive to many.
The message in all this is .... EXPECT LESS. "You want to own a home, peasant? Well, this is what you get now. Enjoy it." Not an encouraging message to convey. I don't mean from you, Lisa. I mean that this is the message economic reality is sending to Americans. I don't even care to own a home because it's become a financial trap. How can anyone call it "ownership" when there are no cost controls and numerous entities have an unfettered license to steal? I'll rent and be free to leave when I want to, without needing to find a sucker to buy my financial trap when he knows I want the fuck out of there.
I get it....truly I do. While I believe affordable home ownership should be an option for everyone, some people just want the freedom to move around the cabin... If we were to have a housing correction and ownership were cheaper than renting "again" possible you would change positions, but that of course, is your choice. It does make me sad that people do not have choices like we had just a few short years ago. I worry my grandkids will never own a home. Thank you for your comments.....
@@TheRealLivingWithLisa A price correction will never make ownership what it used to be because of all the entities having access to your pockets, while you sit there defenseless. This is all by design and even if the house were free, it would STILL cost more than renting. That's the point everyone is missing, and that trend will not reverse itself because the goal is to eject us from home ownership. I got ahead of the takeaway because at least I got money for my place. Imagine you were looking to buy a business. Would it be worth owning that business if it had a mountain of overhead costs that could not be controlled? No. That business would be worthless, and this concept is no different with a home. The only case to be made for "owning" the home is the idea of someday selling it to the greater fool, but the 2-minute warning was just announced. The game is almost over. The team that is behind is unlikely to tie the score and put the game into overtime.
@@TheRealLivingWithLisa Except the happiness part, obviously. Psychopaths/Sociopaths love making people suffer. Entrusting our livelihoods to such individuals 'will not' end well.
