For years I have been trying to tell people the same thing. How can TV and radios be unislamic when these things weren't there 1400 years ago. For quite sometime I thought that since those things were new maybe they misunderstood them but now 20 years later in their captured districts they are still banning social media and restricting women form education they are still as backwards but with a posh office in Doha.

@LeakSource _ Oh really? Weren't they literally propped up thanks to the US support and funding for the Mujahideen, where after the Soviets withdrew, a lot of the factions then regrouped into the Taliban. Not to mention that it was supported by Saudi Arabia, a US ally.

Clearly, it was the Pashtun culture of the Taliban and their use of religion to enforce them rather than rooted from Islam itself. Muslims all around the world have the right to get educated and work outside the home. In modern times, you see this in all over the muslim countries from Turkey to Indonesia. The mother of the believers, the wife of the Prophet herself, was a successful businesswoman. There are also records of women who fought in the wars like in the Battle of Uhud during the Prophet's time.

Taliban have greatly evolved in allowing women's education and easing some laws that they made themselves and not from religious text. What good have Western powers ever done except raid a country's resources and leave it to the parties created in the power gap, and no formal governance in the country.

I don't know why the Pashtun culture is so much against education, but Islam definitely isn't. We are the nation of knowledge. Our prophet Muhammad (saw) said we should always seek knowledge even if we have to go China and the pursuit of knowledge is obligatory for every Muslim man and woman alike. In his time (saw) the slaves who taught 10 Muslims to read were freed. Seeking knowledge has been encouraged since the very beginning of Islam. The Pashtuns might have their own cultural norms regarding women's education, but there is definitely no basis in Islam for those views. It's purely cultural and tribal norms. Even when it comes to hand cutting it is to only be applied in a society where there is at least minimum well-being and economic stability where stealing is just an option for lazy people who don't want to work. Under shariah it's unlawful to apply it in a poverty-ridden place like Afghanistan.
