Ironically, the guy who you said was smart for wearing a helmet just retired due to concussion related issues.

Thats unfortunate... Best not to risk anymore head injuries though. What was his name?

@@MenkeYT That is Angus Brayshaw. He is also in the last clip. He is part of a very sporty family. Brothers and Uncle have played at elite levels in AFL and Cricket. He's a real good guy I see him around occasionally. Always polite, kind and willing to chat. Sucks that he had to retire and this is coming from a Collingwood supporter. Also, a few years ago he placed 3rd in the Brownlow (MVP of the year award)

@@MenkeYT His name is Angus Brayshaw, and he played for Melbourne. Brayshaw had multiple concussions over several years. Ironically, the last hit in this video was the Collingwood player, Brayden Maynard, colliding with Brayshaw, this was the hit that ended Brayshaw's career. Brayshaw had about 5 years left to run on his contract around $800k-$900k each year. Was it a legal hit? The Tribunal said it was a 'football incident', so Maynard escaped penalty. This was a very controversial incident and decision. My personal opinion is that Maynard should have got six weeks on the sidelines. I played Aussie Rules for almost 20 years and over that time I received some bone crunching hits, some fair, some not. Never did I feel any animosity toward the player that hit me, most were genuine football incidents. However, if I had ever been lined up and hit like Maynard did to Brayshaw ... I would have been f***ing filthy. And for that hit to end Brayshaw's career, I reckon Brayshaw would be feeling the same way.

Wearing a GREAT shirt there buddy!

Unfortunately, you have to sit through hours and hours of fumbling like cross country basketball in order to see a few moments of real action or contact. Unless running aimlessly is your idea of action. The NRL provides 80 minutes of highlights in every match.

I disagree Steve. I'm wasting my breath here but I got nothing else to do right now lol. I have watched both sports religiously for 20+ years. They are both great sports. AFL has a higher range of different skillsets whereas NRL is limited in the variety of skillsets shown. But, they definitely do have bigger bodies and heavier hits (although, unlike the AFL, they are protected by the offside rule). Man, just go watch Webster taking off Sympkins head in a PRACTICE match the other day. He just got a 7 match ban. That sort of head high contact rarely happens in NRL these days. In fact, there may be an argument that AFL players receive more head knocks? (don't quote me on that). If you are into sport strategy you will love the AFL. What sport requires 36 players on the field at all times? I can only think of one. If you really love watching big meaty men run into each other that much then I guess it makes sense to love NRL and shit on AFL but I guess I don't care enough about that stuff. I don't get why people are so divided between AFL and NRL, they are both great, if you love one, how can you not love the other? Anyway....I wrote my first youtube essay....

@@KO-us9dg you’re a gent. I’ve played both extensively and trust me my friend. The skill set in league is not only greater but has to be done in the face of enormous risk of pain and collision. Jogging all day is one thing but jogging and absorbing punishment is a completely different level of fitness and the split second decisions that have to be made where the consequences for drop ball or a bad timed pass are cataclysmic and far outweigh the continuous flow of AFL, when fumbling has no consequences. Consider match highlights: kicks, catches. tackling can come from a blindside but forwards in rugby league make 40 tackles plus each match. I can’t remember playing with anyone who made 40 tackles in a season in AFL

@@stevewren1079 I don’t agree with the skill set element of this discussion, nor the extent to which you claim AFL has no physical consequences because they clearly do. The example I provided in my original comment is the consequence and proof right there. Sympkin was out COLD from a flying, airborne shoulder charge. They literally outlawed the shoulder charge in NRL because it’s too dangerous yet they still use it in AFL. Anyway as I prefaced, I’m wasting my breath. At the end of the day, they are BOTH great sports. No need to talk shit about one or the other. They are both Aussie sports and require elite level strength, speed and endurance. I just love sport in general so ye, end of my second essay.

The player you are referring too with the helmet is Angus Brayshaw and after being knocked out in the finals last year he has now just had to medically retire due to the effects of the concussion

Hi Menke great to have you back like your Cap. Now this is going to be a very hard question which team are you going to support this season? Remember to try not to upset anybody 😉

the last clip with "the guy in the helmet" he was medically retired from the game due to the hit he took in that last clip, also from my knowledge he was so prone to being concussed that he was required to wear that helmet to try prevent him getting concussed, its incredibly sad to see him get medically retired though he was a great play to watch and he will be missed.
