Club kinda threw him under the bus hey. You'd really think in a pro environment like the AFL, that the club would be well on top of making players aware of updates to the substance list.
Maybe showing my age buuuut - Damian Cupido (Brisbane & Essendon), Daniel Connors (Richmond), Nathan O’Keefe (North Melbourne), Travis Tuck (Hawthorn), Liam Jurrah (Melbourne), Andrew Lovett (Essendon & St Kilda), Ben Cousins (West Coast & Richmond), Justin Charles (Footscray & Richmond), Campbell Brown (Hawthorn & Gold Coast), Tarryn Thomas (North Melbourne), Wayne Carey (North Melbourne & Adelaide), Jonathon Ross (Collingwood), Trent Hotton (Collingwood, Carlton & maybe even Richmond). Re: Angwin. Guy could/would/should have been as good as Darcy Moore & Harris Andrews.
Also perhaps a bit crude & unfair but McCarthy (Collingwood & Port Adelaide) technically falls into this category but certainly doesn’t deserve to be lumped in with everyone else.
I would often see Damian Cupido while having lunch just down from Windy Hill. You would have sworn he was a combination of Usher and Garry Ablett the way he swaggered about. Last time I heard about him he was hanging curtains and gambling his money away.
@@nathand4500 Yep. Shagged Stevos missus and went from being the captain of a club that made a prelim 18 months earlier to leaving the club in disgrace and missing the entire 2002 season.
Hardly think it ruined his career. He's the best CHF in history by an absolute mile. All the others fucked up promising careers and squandered their potential.@@Spotter_Loader
As soon as I saw this vid I thought of Laurence Angwin. I'm of the same age and know a few blokes around the club at the time. Pretty much everyone knew he was trouble and stayed tf away from him (apart from dim follower types like Karl Norman)
Yes it is unfortunate for any elite athletes to have their careers cut short. Wether it be A.F.L. or badminton. Yes for some it's due to injury. For others it can be trying to deal with situational crisis. Or underlying personal issues due to past unresolved trauma . The message being reach out , get the right support, no shame!. It's takes courage to accept, courage to express, and then we move forward .
Justin Clarke for Brisbane had his career cut short due to concussion problems but was starting to become a prolific key defender but thankfully he’s doing super well now. Jarred Brennan also sprung to mind, had so much potential and showed it occasionally but just couldn’t be consistent enough and fell away.
