As funny as this video looks, the truth has a slightly more sinister explanation. The animals aren't getting drunk - for an elephant to get drunk eating these Marulas, it would have to eat one thousand five hundred of them. Scientists at the University of Bristol in England explained that the bizarre behaviour of the animals - and their "hangover" expressions - is really the result of them eating the poisonous pupae of beetle larvae living in the tree bark. They're not drunk, they're actually sick.
The bit at the end showing them all feeling the aftereffects is pure gold. They looked like they'd reached the stage they could hear dung beetles crawl. :D
I remember watching this with my sister as a kid and we laughed until our tummies hurt. It was hilariously funny. I found it again. Still funny after many years
True i remember watching it way back in 2010 with siblings and i laughed so good at the baboon 😂😂😂 and here we are in 2023 watching it again and still laughing about it.
Growing up here in South Africa there was a big Marula(Mafula in our language) tree next to the pitch were we used to meet with other kids. They are delicious and no one actually got drunk cause they were not fermented, but we knew they were used to make traditional alcohol and adults quite liked it. I have so many memories of that tree, most times we would just climb it and spend the whole day chatting in that tree and sometimes in season we would just play something like dodge ball but with marulas were you collect your ammo and one team go to the other side of the pitch(yes we were young and stupid). I haven't been back there in 15 years so I wonder if it's still there. Good times.
@@mikehunt4707 True, Africans speak a lot of languages. But only Sierra Leone and Liberia speak it as a primary language, the rest we speak it as a second language.
Elephants: lazy drunk Monkeys: your local drunk college kids Birds: sketch drunk Puma: random drunk walking home from the bar around the corner. Giraffe: the drunk that focuses really hard and tells everyone their completely sober.
I remember watching this show as a kid. It was called "Animals are People Too" and my mom and I laughed til we cried. Brings back a treasured memory. I miss her.
😂🤣 I'VE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE!!!😂 THANK GOD THERE WERE NO "SOBER" LIONS OR HYENAS ANYWHERE IN SIGHT!!! CUTE AND HILARIOUS 😂🤣🥰😍😘🐘💜🦣💜🐘💜🦣🦣💚🌳💦🪨🌊😃👍🏽🙋🏽🔥🙏🏽👑✝️📖🔥
The baboon with his hand on his head is classic. Did that when I was a kid after my brothers 21st party. I grabbed all the half finished wine bottles and mixed them up in a gallon fermentation bottle mum used to make dandelion wine. Then the next weekend me and some mates went down the back shed about 100yrds from the house and had a few plastic cups full each. We where only 7yrs old so got totally smashed real quick, whte red beer & bubbly all mixed together. Ugg it must have been bloody awful. A couple of the guys threw threw up, I didn't so they came right the next day. I however looked just as bad as that baboon lolololol 🤮. I didn't drink booze again for about 12yrs. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
My oldest daughter's favourite movie as a toddler was "Animals Are Beautiful People too" It was about the animals in the Namib, among other scenes with the Han. The animals all got drunk off of the fermented fruit and the elephants and warthogs were classic but the baboons suffering from a hangover were hilarious.
This is a clip from "Animals are Beautiful People". As a kid, I watched this on VHS again and again... And again and again and again. I can't count the number of times. This scene is as funny now as it was back then 😂
I remember seeing this on Showtime back in the 70s. The part about "night fall" stuck with me. I've wanted to see this again for so long. Thank you for posting this!
Reminds me when we were kids and we would pick up the sweet Marula fruit on our way from school and the naughty kids would squeeze the juice into a container and wait for it to ferment after days then drink it.
From the movie “Animals are Beautiful People.” Our family were staying at the Boston Airport Hilton after a VERY late night arrival. This movie came on TV (about 35 years ago) and had us laughing our asses off at 2AM - how we didn’t wake the rooms around us is beyond me! I think I was 10 years old at the time.
Thanks for the name... I have a similar memory too, about this movie: me and my older brother watching this on TV, and laughing so hard that mom came from the kitchen to find out what was so funny... she sat with us a while and the three of us were laughing for hours even after the movie had ended. LOL.
Yeah we all get this, and seriously I think it’s due to being aware of sleep paralysis. You want to move your physical body but you can’t. Usually happens toward the end of a dream when you wake up
Said and done... HA HA HA! Some of you (most of you) have no clue why Covid really happened, what it is paving the way for, or who is truly to blame for whats coming. Said and done... think again bub, this is life now and until we die (within 5yrs if you take the vac). Want a preview of whats to come, watch Man in The High Castle, but remove the patriotic resistance and replace Japan with CHINA.
I'm in South Africa and we have this fruit tree in our backyard... a very common tree. U shud taste the nut inside the actual fruit after it dried out in the winter... that's the best part of Marula
@@portiamadingwaneng6174 I'm of to my local african supermarket. Or just a supermarket to you 😂. I don't go I'm going to the english shop actually yes we fucking do say that in england 🤘😂 I almost chatted shit there 😂
You got the sloppy drunks, The barely can walks ones, The ones who try to act sober ones, The ones who always pass out right away But i was surprised you didnt see any roudy ones 😂😂😂... Very entertaining video
HAHAHAHA, one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Bunch of wildlife gettin’ their tipsy on. As hard as their lives are, I can’t think of a more deserving group. Too bad the apparent hangovers the next day, though. The narration was perfect.
@@Fatallica when i say "too much" Im not stupid about it xD like those Tik tok people who died from it, I at most take 5-8 pills, I dont wanna die from toxic megacolon xD
Reminds me of my neighborhood squirrels. Feasting on my old halloween pumpkin, and staggering around my front yard. They literally wait for it to ferment and get all old, just so they can gather and get hammered. 😂😂😂
@@zero.0_0 I was wondering that too, I was thinking they just had some footage of the elephant sitting down and standing up slowly that they tried to pass off as drunk footage
I don't know which was funnier -- the baboon getting bonked on the head by the falling fruit at 1:07 or the baboon waking up with a hangover at 3:53. Mother nature can provide some pure comedy gold when she wants to! LOL!
I remember seeing “Animals Are Beautiful People” years ago and laughing my ass off at this segment. A fun movie, but not without a crushingly sad segment. I’m happy to now have access to only this part.
