African djembe drummers in Paris Metro. Nice drums rhythms from the roots. Djembe drum. Nice video to learn how to drum djembe.
At the beginning it is Yankadi rhythm with accompaniments |B----bB-tT-b| and |S-St-tS-S--b|. Since 4:00 to the end it is Makuru rhythm. It is a classic composition Yankadi-Makuru. In arrangement there are also solo phrases similar to that of Mamady Keïta, maybe traditional ones for those rhythms. (Thanks to the neuroanimal for description in comments)

The life force is in these drums. The children feel it and pay their respect. In ancient times, people would be drummers for life for the chiefs. The drums communicated so much. When the captives hit the beaches of the Caribbean, the drums were built to send warnings and communicate yet again. The rhythms vary but the importance remains. From the Akan people in Ghana to their descendants - the Nyabinghi Rastafari brethren in Jamaica - the drums beat on and on and on. That’s the life force that can’t be stopped!

@@diopfifi4937 Ghana and Nigeria not known for drums? Idiot! All of Africa is known for its drums. From Burundi to the talking drums of the Yoruba people. Whilst I also respect the drums of Mali and Senegal, for me they are usually too high pitched don't have the bass and hypnotism compared to the drums of say the Ga of Ghana, or the Igbo and Yoruba of Nigeria where the drums of Brazil and Cuba clearly originate.

@2bit661
@2bit661 Год назад
@@NoRockinMansLand I have a totally different take on history that would require me to speak at great length. (And, I won't.) I don't believe history extends back millions of years. I don't believe world cultures originated from a single place, like Africa. Also, to say drumming was invented in Africa is logically flawed. Its about as ridiculous as saying Europeans invented the wheel. Although, perhaps the French invented the first wheel of cheese, just guessing. (meule de fromage) I think its inevitable that the wheel would have been discovered. And likewise, when someone taps a beat on something, that's drumming. To say that drumming was originated any place is illogical. How about dancing? Somebody invented that too? If nobody invented dancing, you mean, nobody as of yet would have tried a dance move? Did any specific group invent singing? Did the Irish invent joke telling? Did the Chinese invent laughing? Did the Italians invent shoes? Did the Japanese invent pants? Who invented the boat? Did the English invent language? Did Mexicans invent swimming? Foolishness! I believe human being have innate abilities endowed by their creator. I am not taking credit away from Africans, which is a really large group of differing people, culture and languages. Do I think Africans invented drumming? No Do I think Africans invented some type of musical bow for a stringed instrument? They may have, but so did others. Sorry to poop on your parade. Let's stop praising and attributing achievements to specific groups. Its not a worthwhile pursuit. And, it seems to appeal more to everyone's feel-good P-C emotions rather than logic.

That is awesome! I would actually hope for a long wait for my train or wait for another just to listen to these guys play for awhile! If this stuff doesn't make you feel something deep down in your soul then you are a robot. Drums are the first instruments ever created and goes to the very core of who we are. If you think about a concert when a drummer does a big drum solo you will understand what I mean. Everyone is always transfixed on that drummer and they'll start swaying or rocking back and forth, before you know it people are spinning in circles and other primal/tribal type movements. Its in all of us no matter your ethnicity, race or whatever because it goes back to a time when all people lived in the same way with very similar beliefs. I thank the old gods that some of the people in this world kept with those traditions and we can still experience the feelings from those long gone days when humans lived as we were intended. At one with the world and creatures around us.

@ccraibleclark
@ccraibleclark 8 лет назад
+fromundachees not really an ancient collective consciousness. It's just familiar to the western ear. African rhythms percolated all the way through from slave music, to calypso, to jazz, to rock, to funk, to hip hop. But if you asked a traditionally trained Indian musician who didn't have much exposure to other types of music, they probably wouldn't feel as familiar to that musician. Attributing this to collective consciousness misses a whole history of systematic appropriation.

Caleb Wtf does this have to do with cultural appropriation? Lul, get your white guilt, PC, SJW ass outta here with that shit. All cultures appropriate, that is how they advance. Also, your example is just plain wrong. Indian music contains, and has contained for a very long time, advanced, complex rhythms. A trained Indian musician would definitely be familiar with the rhythmic patterns happening here. Moron.

It is easy to learn. You teach your hands 2 different sounds, one sound you make is left hand movement, another sound you make is right hand movement, and a third sound is both together, etc (for instrument like tabla their can be 14 or more word sound movements like (Dha ge na te te etc.) then you sing the song in your head, and you train your muscle responses until they become muscle memory. I was taught this method by both african, and Indian teachers, I teach this way, and this is how I teach myself as well. Watch their mouths in the video, you will see they are singing what they are playing.

A refreshing break from Western drumming. Different sounds, lots of polyrhythms-that's where African music really shines. Watch the guy in the green tank; he's actually playing some pretty great stuff. 2 over 3, 3 over 4...

a has a go-go sound to it, which I guess you could say is western, though much inspired by African music
@Africa1000

anon1561 What on earth is western about this? This is wholly and completely African. Only someone with no awareness of the unlimited multiplicity of African drumming patterns and how it connects to culture could write such nonsense! Stop looking at everything through Western eyes! You might it appreciate even more.

anon1561 Given your initial comment I'm not at all surprised by the tone of your response and is, in my view, a reliable pointer to your level of intellect. Only you know how on earth I have used "race and localization" to justify anything. A truly bizarre interpretation of what I had said!

This is wonderful!!! To be able to enjoy such beautiful music in the subway..those men were giving people and invaluable gift..but look at them just passing by the drummers , acting as if they do tot exist..walking like robots incapable of a smile or a tender gesture..their hearts frozen..What have we become that we prefer our cellphones and ipads to real life. Awake!! Now or never!!
