If I could afford it, honestly I would buy both. Each of them literally tells you what it's made for just by the looks, the razorback wants you to go out and chop some wood or build a shed and the ranger just wants to be taken on a hike or camping trip. Such awesome and functional designs!
I work, trek, and go to town in only one pair of boots, my Razorback by Jim Green. Living in the cooler high Drakensberg, whilst managing a farm, my feet experience every conceivable range of conditions you can think of. Spring with new veld grass wet with recent rain, rushing streams, stables, towing stuck cars from the deep mud on the un-serviced district road, ( When will this service ever happen?), and workshop with oil and grease. High summer, maintaining roads and hiking trails, mowing, gardening, general concrete construction, forestry, and fencing, you name it, it is probably on my list of tasks. Autumn, burning firebreaks and preparing the property for winter, with its cold frost and occasional snow, dry veld fighting runaway fires. then in the same boots after a lick and polish, I go to town once in a while, (one has to, unfortunately) I am happy to walk around, proud to be a countryman in my Razorbacks. The only times I don't wear my Razorbacks are when I shower, and in bed, for obvious reasons, I think. All in all, I wear them because I don't have to think about them. They just become a natural part of me and who I am. Now here is the thing. Right from the go, I will in the future replace the inner sole with a custom sole. My feet and rough lifestyle wear out the factory-fitted fiber sole very quickly. and secondly, I will wear gumboots on the district road in the future. Give these Razorbacks by Jim Green of South Africa a go. I have never been disappointed with them. And another thing, perhaps I will buy two pairs next time round, one for all the hard work, and the other as my "going out" pair, but I will wear my work pair when I have to meet my bank manager. It will show him I'm still strong and hard-working.
Good day and thank you for the awesome words and feedback on our Razorback, we take huge pride in the quality of boot we provide for each customer. It sounds like you and your boots have some awesome Jim Green journeys and stories from along the way. We wish you all the best on future adventures with your boots and should you have any questions or queries down the line we are always happy to assist to get you going again with your boots 🐸🐸🐸
I'm so glad you made this video. As someone who gets shoes through work, I still spend my money with you guys. I have people ask about your products, as the green laces are an eye catcher. My only desire is for you to offer the African Ranger in tan. It's such a cool color.
I just purchased the Razorback with the safety toe and I love them. After breaking them in over a weekend, I put them straight to use in the mud and muck of a field audit in the oilfield in Texas. They performed admirably and I look forward to many more years of service from them.
Just found your product from the Rose Anvil, I been using Red Wing boots for the past 17 years, they don't make the boot I used anymore and quality has dropped. I have a lawn care business in Louisiana, needless to say it wet all the time. Few questions, I like a lower boots 3 3/4 to 4". Would the African Ranger work well for me? Are they waterproof or resistance? Do you have any EH rated boots? Also I'm used mink oil on my Red Wings, would that also be a option for maintenance on the Ranger? Thanks
Good day and thank you for your interest in Jim Green Footwear. Our boots are not waterproof besides for our Monster Range, the rest are water resistant. These water resistant properties can be improved by the care and conditioning method used on the boots. We do not have any EH rated boots in our range and finally, we do have a care guide on our channel for our Crazy Horse Leather option, we recommend any natural product for the care and to test the product on a small area of boot before full application to get an idea of the results.
I have had some rangers for about 6 months and wear them several times a week. The are great for early morning dogs walks around my neighborhood, though I am already getting some wear on the soft (and comfy) soles from the sidewalks. I'm looking at either some razorbacks or maybe the new Baobab next. I'd love to see a similar comparison that includes that boot.
HI Andrew! Thank you for the support and feedback. We have a Baobab Boot breakdown in the works which shall hopefully clear a lot of questions for many in the same boat🐸💪
It's so cool to see what goes into the making of these boots! i have been wearing my African rangers since i got them almost a month ago and they are so comfy and so tough. Next on my list are those beautiful Razorbacks. Lol Keep up the great work Jim Green
Bought a pair of Rangers about two months ago. Wear them for most hiking and camping (I prefer boots to runners/shoes or sandals). Was a little tough to break them in, but really like the expanded toe box.
Not to poop on your parade here but would you like to explain where is that double layerd toe cap on your 'how its made video'? Because as far as I can see... I cant see it there.
Good day and thank you for reaching out. We are aware of this and have had it pointed out, thank you for the comment. Our How Its Made video was filmed from an external media company at the time and unbeknown to their team filmed a custom boot. We are aware and going to be posting an updated version to this video soon to clarify the process and product. Apologies for any inconvenience and confusion this has caused and please feel free to get in touch further should you have any more questions, we are always happy to assist 💪
I have a pair of Razorbacks that are just broke in and honestly, they are super hard soled. I work construction and they aren't the most comfortable boot on concrete all day. They really do seem bulletproof but I think I would like them better for working outside off concrete. I feel like the African Rangers would suit me better with that different sole material. Just my personal take on these boots.
@@Dkoarn I actually have the Razorbacks broken in now with a slightly cushier insole and they are awesome now. But I also bought a set of African Rangers. They are great but I think you're right. The Razorbacks with the wedge sole might be the chef's kiss.
Just ordered the Rose Anvil Ranger boot from you. Looking forward to receiving the zero-drop footwear. I have a pair of older Vellies (forget the mfg from Africa) with Kudu leather that I really like and hope these are as comfortable.
I've got a pair of Razorbacks, and I love 'em. I'm considering the AR8 boots, but I haven't been able to find any reviews of that model online. I'd love to see you deconstruct the 8" African Ranger as you did for the ankle height African Ranger and Razorback.
I've got a pair AR8s and I like 'em quite a bit. They fit quite closely to your ankle and calf but aren't at all uncomfortable, and as always, plenty of toe room.
I'm saving up for a pair of Jim Greens. However not sure which I'll be getting. I'm pretty heavy, 140kg to 145kg. And have flat feet. Will be walking pretty much everywhere with them. In the city and on the farm. Thinking maybe Razorback or Mean Machine.
I’m also a bigger dude at 115kg and have flat feet as well. I’ve had a pair of the Razorbacks for two years now. I mostly use mine for hikes, and yard work. Solid boot definitely would buy again. Just make sure you get the correct size.
Gotta go for the rangers. Definitely more of a daily driver option. Kind of a middle ground between a vellie and a proper boot, perfect for casual hiking or situations where a lighter option would be desirable.
does the AR8 use the same last as the African Ranger? when looking at the AR8, it looks more like the Razorback, but it is in the "African Ranger" category on your website
Good day and thank you for the interest in Jim Green Footwear. Our range makes use of a few lasts. I have gone ahead and attached the information about our lasts and fit. JG last - This is a wide fit and offers a snugger feel all around. This last, we use on our Razorback and AR8 Boot STC last - This is a wide fit and offers a roomy and rounded toe box (more room above the toes). This last, we use on our African Ranger
I’m enjoying my razorback boots. Upon receiving them a couple of weeks ago. And opening the box, I looked at them for the longest time. And thought they are some great looking boots. Even more better in person.
I bought a pair of razorbacks after seeing so many videos of them but I’ve never received them due to insufficient address info. As much as I’ve emailed and called customer support no one has gotten back to me, I paid for them and never received them I wouldn’t recommend buying these. My boots are now in Memphis TN even though they were on my home state of San Diego last week but there absolutely no one on the customer support side. Very disappointing
Just bought a pair of Razorbacks, while i was trying to find fault with this boots, i couldnt, only with the chapter naming of this video, please fix it, certain sections the word comparison is written comaprison, thats the only issue i could find with your boots, great product, hense why i decided to buy it instead of Caterpillar Diagnostics HL ST.
@@JimGreenFootwearOfficial I will check them out. It would be so awesome if you guys came out with a mid height boot, full rubber rand, and waterproof liner to rival the high end hunting boots from European companies. Moderately stiff, but with that wide toe box. Most boots squish my toes or are too sloppy in the instep if I order wide. Would be awesome! I might give these monsters or razorbacks a try.
Got my rangers. Def my favorite boot. Video is great giving awesome info. I would say razorbacks are in my future. Want to see some videos on your ar8 boots
I have a pair of Rangers and I really like them. They're great for light hikes and bumming around for everyday wear. They're surprisingly light for full leather, but they're so comfortable underfoot. Definitely a go to for the easy days
I have a pair of AR8's that I love, and I'm thinking about trying the steel toe Razorbacks for work. I noticed in a recent pic you posted (I think on Facebook) that it looks like the steel toe Razorback is coming with either a two piece upper or does it have an additional layer of leather over the toe now?
Just got the brown african rangers after getting the us release of the chukka (wish I sized down on the chukkas.) So far so good I'll go on a hike with them in a week or two
Great news! We are excited to hear how the Jim Green journey goes ahead with your boots and please do let us know if we can assist along the way, we are happy to help 💪
Hi Daniel, thank you for your interest. We would recommend placing an order through our South African webstore or our Amazon store. Should you have any further questions please do get in touch, we are happy to assist in getting a pair of Jim Green boots in your hands and on your feet.
Between these two boots, which one would be likely to have the best traction on a grassy hill? (And also, a damp grassy hill?) Which would have the best traction while pushing a mower up a somewhat steep hill?
Hi and thank you for the interest towards Jim Green Footwear. We would recommend our Razorback with the JG lug outsole from what you have mentioned above 💪💪
I have both. The Ranger has some bunched up material right at pressure points on my ankle that caused pain, and are still not fully broken in. Maybe review that design point? Overall, I love the wide designs since I wear EE. Great blend of quality and price, a true value.
I have 2 Jim green boots one is the Razor back and the other is a vellie boot. Both seem to have the same issue although more so on the razor back then the vellie. The issue is that the sole is convex and not flat. I mean convex going left to right, a convex font to back would not be an issue. Anyway this convex nature of the sole mean that the big toe and the pinky toe never actually touch the ground while the middle of the foot does. I am unsure if the ranger has this issue or not and I am not even sure what causes it. So if I do not include that issue the boot are perfect the width is perfect. I mean perfect as it fits my foot exactly where my feet are touching the sides with no issues so not too wide and not too narrow, it is perfect.
Good day Fred, thank you for the feedback. Here at Jim Green Footwear we take huge pride in the quality of boot and customer services provided to each customer, what you mention above is not up to our standard. Please get in touch with jason@jimgreenfootwear.co.za with the above issue and they shall assist further with your boots.
I have 2 pairs of Jim Green's, Razorbacks and a pair I cannot recall the name of, for about 2 years now. Basically they area worn every 2nd day. I really battled to break in my Razorbacks, but now they are fine. My feet pained at the end of the day, but I found that if I tie them loosely, they are great on my feet. Great thing is, that even if tied loosely, they still function as if tied fully. Saving up for a pair of Rangers, as I spend a huge amount of time on my feet, more standing than walking, when operating in the bush.
Hi and thanks for the feedback!💪 Our Razorback boot can be seen to take a good few miles to break in due to the amount of leather around your foot but once done shall feel like your slippers 🐸🐸. All the best for the journeys ahead and please do get in touch should you have any questions, we are always happy to assist 🐸💪
hello again, is the JG last EE or EEE width? in one of your latest videos (i believe the one about lasts) you mention it is EEE width, which doesn't match up with this video
Good day, the yellow ties in with our brand identity of our traditional Green and Yellow as per our logo and worked through to our laces and Yellow branding on boot. In the near future we are looking at reworking this to create more of a unique identity for our soles 🐸💪
Hey just ordered my first pair! I’m so glad I could get a pair in the states, will be perfect for Florida and my arrowhead hunting expeditions! Can’t wait to get them in the post! Thank you
