traveljunkie59 I’m aware of this, it’s really unfortunate. It’s common in a lot of Latinos. I think part is ignorance, not wanting to be called black because some don’t understand that all african Americans are black but not all black people are African American 🤷🏾‍♀️

MiVidaBellisima it’s the colonist’s mindset that lives on. Anything non European was considered less than. We now celebrate indigenous people being elected to political office when they have been subjected to harsh treatment because of their roots for years. We should all acknowledge our mixed heritage.

I think it's just a convenience thing. Because a lot of countries in Africa have their borders defined by their former colonizers, the colonizer language is the only one the people there have in common, since before colonization that "country" did not really exist, and it overlaps the traditional land of multiple ethnic groups (who also live in neighboring countries a lot of the time).
@Tracymmo
@Tracymmo 3 года назад
You're speaking English on land that belongs to tribal nations with their own language too. In our case, colonizers did such a thorough job that most Americans don't even know the names of the tribal nations whose land they're on, let alone any of the language, even when there are still some speakers left. Countries throughout Africa, the Americas, Pacific Islands, Australia and parts of Asia speak French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, or Dutch because of the European invaders (a.k.a. "explorers" and "colonists"). Colonizers often impose their own language to control populations, whether English in Kenya, French (at one time) in Vietnam, or English in Ireland. As recently as the '70s Native American kids got punished in white-run religious schools for speaking their own language. Look at some African maps by language to see which countries speak which African and colonial languages. It's interesting. Most Africans I have met speak at least one colonial language and at least one African one, depending on their country, ethnic group and level of education. They are well aware of the negative consequences of European colonialism, but they also embrace the colonial languages they speak too. They've made them their own.
@rfmerrill
@rfmerrill 3 года назад
@@Tracymmo You're probably right, but my school at least took an effort to educate us about the tribes who lived in our area pre-colonization. Unfortunately like most things that they teach in school I doubt most people remember it. Also where I grew up many of the towns are still named after the tribes who lived there (Massapequa=Massapequas, Montauk=Montaukett, etc).

@JLT We use those languages mainly because we need to trade with other countries thus these languages make it easier to trade as they are widely used. Also most African countries have so many native languages that if we focus on ‘African languages’ we would never understand each other thus we picked one or two languages that all of us can know and learn so that it can unite us. For example Kenya we have two official languages :English (mainly for trade and other international activities) and Kiswahili for uniting all the 43 tribes with one language and also to unite us with our East African neighbors

It was an active part of colonization and maintaining slaves in a slave state of mind. It can't be only whips and lashes, it needs to be a systematic break down of identity and sense of family support. Hence the generational scars seen today in Black people and Native people, such as alcoholism, mental health issues, etc.

My family is Puerto Rican and they were never in denial about having African ancestry. I grew up fully knowing about the history of the island and that I am mixed with black. My father is not only afro-Latino but is phenotypically black. People mistake him for being African American. I think that when you are racially ambiguous, you are allowed to be aloof and push aside blackness. Years ago, I would tell my peers that Latino isn't a race and that there are black, white, native American, and mixed Latinos. They would respond "No! I'm Spanish!" Would you suddenly said I'm German Latino? You need to be proud of your German ancestry because you have a German ancestor from 200 years ago. Or would you say I'm Latino first. I was born and raised here and I have Latino DNA. But all of my culture is Latino. I am Latino first. That a distant relative came from Africa over a hundred years ago is second. I acknowledge it. It is a part of me but it is not all of me and certainly not the most important thing about me.

All men are guilty of sin. Repentance means to turn away from your sin. For example, if you are a liar you stop lying. Repenting is not just saying sorry, it is saying sorry and not continuing to do that sin. Sin is what separates us from God. God sent his son Jesus to die for our sins. Meaning Jesus took the punishment for our sins on the cross. If we believe on Jesus our sins can be washed away, and God will remember them no more. If we reject the son of God and continue in sin we will be under Gods wrath(hell fire). Repent today and believe on Jesus Christ, and recieve the free gift of eternal life.

Love that Alexis is a cousin! I am also Igbo, on my Dad’s side, which makes a lot of sense as the Igbo tribe were shipped to Barbados, where my dad is from. But as Dr. Gina shared the Igbo culture to Alexis, I felt a sense of pride. My dad started several of his own businesses, and the fact that now I am hoping to start my own business (connecting to Africa, no less!) validates I am carrying on the legacy of my ancestors.

@wazobiabiazowa228
@wazobiabiazowa228 3 года назад
@@chikaikeh9205 I think the DNA interpreter actually misunderstood Igbo Ora people and Igbos, because according to guinness book of record, Igbo Ora has the highest number of twins in the world. Ejima is not a frequent occurrence in Igbo land unlike in Igbo Ora where there is a claim of at least one set of twins in every home; more also with the pictures of the twins, Igbos don't wear that kind of beads the ladies wored neither do they wear the kind of cap the boys had-on. The people from that Igbo Ora actually celebrates annual twin festival. And there is no link or relationship between Igbo and Igbo Ora people.
