Love my clam! I am a mosquito magnet, so I need a place to be when camping. Two hints I have for shorter person setup of this tent. First I stake down one corner to pull against so I’m not dragging it around the campsite 😅 pop open two sides and then the roof, if you leave the roof till last you may not be able to reach to push it up. 😊thanks for the great review. PS I also like the side panels, you can put up one or more, great flexibility.

Got back yesterday from my very first camping trip. I went to the Garden of God's area in Shawnee National Forrest in Southern Illinois. Found a great spot to camp in. One of the things I learned is that a Clam Shell will be essential and it will be my next purchase. I'm sure there will be lot's of bugs every place I want to go too!! Thank you for posting this!

Hi Feels! Thanks for the good wishes. I just checked out your channel, and it's bringing me right back to when I traveled India 20 years ago. Those roads up north! I prayed for my life when our bus leaving Manali had to back up to let another pass along a cliffside road. Be careful out there!!

Hammering stakes is awful, I bought several 9 inch hex head lag bolt screws so I can just Drill them into and out the ground with a rechargeable drill. WHAT a help! I’m mostly in the desert and sandy or rocky soil I never have any problem, get my popup shower tent up and down in no time :)
@TheVanThatGotAway
@TheVanThatGotAway Год назад
Omg, CaSun! I might have to try that b/c yesterday our Clam caught some strong wind and we were staked into sand. 😜 It got uprooted and it was okay, but what a pain in the butt. How do you handle ground that's super hard?
@CalFunInSun
@CalFunInSun Год назад
@@TheVanThatGotAway Ground that’s really hard would be like the wood these pointed lag bolts sink in to, the threads will just pull the screw into the ground. And what makes it so much better even is that if it sinks in wonky in one spot just reverse the drill to back it out and try again a few inches away.

Seems like a good purchase. All the a lá carte items (panels, bathtub floor, etc) are dollar-daunting but the setup is so easy, so there’s that. Really great review and demo, as always. DIY Waterproof the existing storage bag for the Clam (or almost any fabric). I have been doing this with old sheets to use as tarps or flys. Let me know if you want details. Being able to easily and cheaply make ANYTHING waterproof has been amazing.💦

I had the 6x6 and I threw it away. It was hard to pop the roof up. I am 5’6 and just pushing up the middle to pop the roof was impossible without trying to hold down a side as well. It got a hole on one of the corner top edges where the pole goes. That didn’t help. Take down was easier than putting up. I just thought it would be easy up and down. Not so. Once up it was great to sit in. The tight screen keeps it warmer inside than the outside. It held up great in heavy wind, even with the side walls. If there are two people this would be easy to put up.

Thank you for another great video. I love the Clams, but am not ready to invest in one yet. We purchased the Kelty Sideroad Awning. It doesn't have screens and sides, but it is also more compact, light, and easy to set up. We were using it on multiple vehicles too. The Sideroad handles wind really well too. Kelty has a lot of quality shades , awnings, and tents as well a other outdoor gear. Thank you again for the review of your setup. Safe travels.

Hi hello! - thanks for your review, especially as you've been using it for a year. Are you considering buying the wall covers and/or fly or does a tarp work just as well?
@TheVanThatGotAway
@TheVanThatGotAway Год назад
Hi Jaycee, You know me... I was already thinking "How can I just make my own wind panels?" But we haven't really felt we NEEDED to have panels or the rain fly yet. We spend most of our time in the shelter when the weather is nice 🙂
@CalFunInSun
@CalFunInSun Год назад
I used a tarp once on my 6x6 Clam Traveler. It was just the right size so I was able to very neatly lace through its grommets and through the pull loops midway on the Clam’s sides so it fit real snug like a laced up sneaker.

Nope, worst investment ever. When it rains it becomes a sweet box due to having to put up the side panels to prevent the rain from dripping inside. Yes, the Roof is smaller then the diameter of the outside wall and thus water will fall into this so called cover.
@TheVanThatGotAway
@TheVanThatGotAway 10 месяцев назад
Hi PJ, Thanks for checking in. I understood that the Clam itself isn't rainproof, but you can buy a rain fly (or put up a tarp.) We haven't since we don't rely on it for rain protection. Have you used the fly or tarp, yourself?
