How long till the swelling goes down and I can bend my knee?
-After ACL surgery it will typically take two months before swelling is significantly reduced. However, you can't wait until this happens before your regain you knee bending and your knee straightening so you will have swelling in your knee but you still have to work on your knee straightening and bending during this time.
During this time you will be working on two things at once:
1.You are working on reducing your swelling with ice elevation compression.
2.You are also at the same time working on getting back your knee bending.

I had ACL surgery 2 months back, Swelling was reduced almost, but last week I did walking and exercise, next day I got little pain and swelling. Is this normal ?

Yes this does sound normal. Swelling and some pain after normal ACL exercises can happen. It does not sound like you have done anything to compromise the ACL graft. By the way we also have an ACL recovery app. Find the link in this video description.

How about still have sweliing on my knee 8 weeks post acl surgery?

It is not as common but some people do have swelling at 8 weeks after ACL surgery. As long as you are not standing for too long or letting your leg hang down in a chair for too long your swelling should be gradually reducing. Has the swelling reduced over the past 8 weeks?

Its been 5 months of my acl augmentation surgery and deribment of medial meniscus and swelling is there above patela portion,, and stiffness is there. pain is not there.. Am doing bending excercise daily bt still swelling is there... Is it normal and after 6 months of surgery can we go for MRI??

Typically it is not normal to still have stiffness and swelling. I think an in-person assessment of your knee would be the first step. I would recommend a follow up with your physiotherapist to assess the stability of your knee. The MRI could be a last step if your local providers can't explain the reason for the swelling and stiffness.

I have very mild, non reactive swelling 6 months post op. My PT says its nothing to worry about, any comment?

Hi Wessel, that's tough to comment on. Many patients have mild swelling 6 months after ACL surgery and in many cases it is not an issue. Underlying issues that can cause swelling are previous injury to the meniscus or the cartilage around the knee. Both of these areas are commonly injured at the same time as an ACL injury. I would recommend specifically asking your PT about the integrity of your meniscus or cartilage and see if this can explain some of the swelling.

I had my Acl and meniscus surgery 6 weeks ago, I can hyper extend my knee with no pain but my bending seems stiff compared to my non operative leg. I can bend more than 110 degrees. Is that normal ?
@curovate
@curovate 6 месяцев назад
At 6 weeks your extension is very good and your knee flexion sounds a bit behind. At this stage you should be able to bend at least 120 degrees. It is important to regain most of your knee flexion by 8 weeks. Unless there is a surgical reason that you care not allowed to bend your knee more than 120? If not I suggest you continue to work on your knee flexion. By the way we also have an app for ACL recovery, here's the link: curovate.com/index.html

After 20 days of my surgery something knee swelling will increase and some time it's decrease. Pain is almost gone I can bend my knee around 120 degree but unable to fully straight my knee. And near my knee mussels are getting tight. It is normal suggest any opinion.

Swelling after 20 days can still be normal. It sounds like your knee range of motion is also improving gradually which is great! Keep up with your daily exercises and the swelling should improve. We also have an app for ACL recovery which you can find in this video description.

I am two months post acl sugery and i cannot bend my knee or straighten it totally is this normal?
@curovate
@curovate Год назад
Unfortunately this is not normal. Typically by 2 months most people have close to their end range knee flexion and extension. It can take up to 3 months but you should have already seen significant improvements by the end of 2 months.

My knee is still a little more swollen than my non operative knee 4 months past the surgery. Is that normal? I got my acl repaired and my meniscus stitched up
@curovate
@curovate Год назад
Typically people have more swelling with a meniscus repair in addition to the ACL surgery. If the swelling is very minimal it is likely nothing to worry about. However, significant swelling 4 months after this surgery is not normal and should be assessed by a healthcare provider.

I’m in the predicament. But the swelling feeling like it’s going to burst through the incisions. Is that something that will happen?
@curovate
@curovate 2 года назад
Very very unlikely. Because the knee is so swollen it can feel like the swelling will "burst out" but this does not happen. As long as there is no signs of infection and the incision looks clean and the skin is healing together you likely have nothing to worry about.
