I am glad you specified you were baiting a bit at the end cause I was like my guy you know layers are a nightmare once you get a handle on nodes. Also nukepedia is life.

One thing about After effects is that is a struggle for me is the finicky 3d-system. I heard in nuke you can move the camera through the scene similar to cinema4d. After effects 3d-system is very limited and super finicky.

I think Adobe is doing a good job at integrating more features for the everyday user on smaller scale projects but it pales in comparison to what Nuke is able to do as a compositor IMO. I think they're just too slow at adding features considering how commonplace the software is. The new track matte system is cool but In regards to the set matte effect, the dropdown for "Effects and Masks" has been there for years. The dropdown itself is integrated into many effects also that use maps or mattes (i.e. camera lens blur effect). From my experience, the main reason Nuke and Flame are so popular as compositing standards is largely due to it's native 3D, better color management, deep compositing abilities, the ability to handle large heavy scripts and it's flexibility in large pipelines that allow it to be integrated more efficiently with other software like Maya and Houdini. Adobe wins on price for sure and it is also more accessible to the general public. I think it's also a swiss army knife of sorts due to its motion graphics capability but I don't think it will replace Nuke in major pipelines any time soon as a compositor. This is coming from someone who has used AE as their primary for the past 15. I still think it's powerful software in its own way just different tools for different jobs I suppose!

Yup. Nuke is advantageous financially in the sense of positioning yourself in a market with more abundant opportunities. Because After Effects isn’t commonly used for compositing pipelines with many artists. Except for motion design, previs, and editors.

in nuke you can simply edit your matte in another merge node and use it for another layer. for after effects it is stil another matte layer or precomp and precomp and precomp it sucks
@onelaststop
@onelaststop 7 месяцев назад
Agreed! AE forces everything to be hidden from the user. You have to open the precomp to find out what footage it uses. You have to open up each layer to see what effects it has. You have to carefully read each effect to see if it references another layer. All things that at a quick glance are evident with nodes

Im sorry but tools like Nuke and Flame are the industry standard still not because of "FEATURES." You can add all the features you want to AE, but you are still in a mess of a timeline based UI with a joke of a 3D environment. If you are working alone and only have to look at a comp with one set of eyes, and can dump your comp after a few weeks of not touching it...AE is fine. But if you are working with a team of artists, or passing shots between teams, or even studios, NOBODY is going to want to touch your nasty AE project. All they will see is layers on top of layers and precomps on precomps with no definition what-so-ever as to what is going on. With Nuke, you can literally crack open any artist's script and trouble-shoot comps without even having to ask, and can literally do it within minutes. You can even open archived scripts you haven't worked on in years, and reuse them without trying to remember what was connected where. Quite literally because every connection is right in front of you. Same with 3D. Most modern Visual Effects utilized some sort of 3D connectivity. AE has a botched 3D viewer that lets you do basic work. Nuke you can quite literally rework 3D assets, fix lighting, and even rerender with your favorite render engine without even leaving the software and having to go through the entire pipeline again (to an extent). To compare AE and Nuke is apples and oranges still...so to say one is crushing the other depends on what you are doing with the tool. For Motion Graphics, Fun Features, and cost per shot, AE is killing it. For large scale VFX where features don't really matter because a compositor is a compositor, working with teams, access to important 3D tools, and being a part of a film VFX workflow that has worked for decades, Nuke still reigns supreme. So the title of this video is wrong, the thumbnail is a lie ("being scared") because even Nuke has a hidden message embeded that says "AE is for kids," and giving a snarky attitude for Nuke being the industry standard because you probably couldn't get a job a good studio with your andrew kramer reel is just petty and childish (a lot of people that i've talked to about this topic lol).

AE is never even gonna come close to Nuke, there is a lot more then just basic rotoing and tracking and comping. The node based workflow has been the industry standard since the 90s with Flame and then Shake and Fusion and Nuke. AE is for mograph, no studio doing vfx for movies would use AE, the whole layer based workflow is simply just disgustingly unintuitive and limited when you are working on massive projects with 200-300 nodes and 20 other people are working with you and you want constant turn around and revision. Being able to see your whole comp at one glance and not having anything hidden inside a million precomps is a lot more important than just features which Nuke is light years ahead of AE. AE is just a rotten core for millions of expensive plugins, lacks proper 3D workflow, not to mention there's no deep comp in AE, I mean it lacks the most basic 3D tools since it's a 2.5D and not full 3D. After effects looks like a toy compared to Nuke for actual work. The whole multipass compositing in AE is basically a hell ride compared to nuke. Nice clickbait tho.

This man speaks the truth. It's not jsut the layers but on top of that you can't even host 2 clips on one layer which create even more of a mess. AE is just a rotten core for millions of expensive plugins.

Pfff AE is outdated in its basic functions. You can't even put 2 clips on the same track which alone creates an immense clutter. Everything about this programm is eons outdated and everything new is just a patch on top of that. The only thing holds together is plugins made by not Adobe.
