I thought the same thing. Now my employer values external certification and I do take many tests again. But they feel different and similar at the same time. But learning is my passion.

I’m graduating from my internship in April. After that I decided to go to Japan with my husband to see a friend and family member. It’s such a huge accomplishment especially during the pandemic. I don’t think people understand how the pandemic strips a lot of joy from school and it becomes a grind to finish. But congrats again! This trip seemed like the refresher you needed.

Siobhan, your triumphs are spectacular ! No car here - so used to schlepping balanced yet heavy packages, walking up 6 flights of stairs most days. Eat lunch and dinner combined. Doctors say I look much younger than almost 64. One takeaway for your devoted audience: Just because some parents, like mine, were always sick, and now long gone - -> It's not all in the genes 😮 !

I loved hearing this story because it's a little similar to what I'm trying to do in my own life. I'm not going to go on a crazy long hike. But I'm getting back into being more active after having two knee surgeries and I'm also a student who spends so much time working on homework, so I'm just trying to get myself to move and be more in touch with the world around me.

That sounds like an amazing trip. I was in a similar situation where when I was in school I didn't realize exactly how miserable I felt but then I got to summer break and it was like I was finally back to my old self again. School can really take it out of you when you're putting your all into it and it's always great when you're able to finally get a break to get back to you.

You landed in my queue today randomly and im here for it! Some recs from someone with an extra 15-20 on you, get back to that violin!!! Treat it like a martial art. Do it for you. That creative regeneration is worth the sometimes hassle and resistance we all have to doing whats good for us. ☺️ Walkable city ftw. I split time across 4 cities in 4 countries because i love each and ea gives me something different. Two are mountainous. Bunz of steel. Two are major cities on the water, epic city life without losing nature entirely. I time my stays with symphony seasons. If you can indulge in walks, especially long walks 1-2x week, Sunrises and sunsets can do more to reaffirm your soul than anything else ive experienced. Congrats on passing exams. Your curiosity will serve you and all the rest of us well.

What a wonderful adventure Siobhan! I am just about to start my first day of medical school tomorrow (in Australia), after studying Speech Pathology for 3 years (you should follow around a speechie for a day!), and similarly to you, just spent 4.5 months walking 2500km of the Te Araroa trail in New Zealand. Such a life changing experience, I completely agree with everything you said about walking being so meditative, and I loved the simplicity of a life consisting only of walk, eat, sleep, repeat. All the best for this next chapter 😊

This was really nice. We live near the mountains and dad hikes daily (environmental biologist)he has always said nature puts us in touch with who we really are. Sadly diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks ago, and the day I took him in he had already hiked his 4 miles for the day.

I'm currently studying for the MCAT to take it in the spring. I've always known I wanted to be a physician since I was 4 but only recently have I developed a maturity to understanding what a career in medicine and what type of physician I want to be - especially given that I have no one close to me or in my family that has gone into medicine. I usually dislike watching "medical school" or "medical" influencers but your honesty, openness, and warmness without seeming discouraging or pretentious stood out to me from your first video I came across maybe 2 weeks ago - one of your 24 hour+ shifts as a resident.
