I’m glad that After Hours was the first experience I had with one of his albums. I liked The Weeknd but I never really liked him until I saw him on headlines of Save your tears since he looked different, and I didn’t know it was fake. At that point I was constantly playing Blinding lights, then I decided to experience it in 2020 during lockdown. Best choice of my life. XOTWOD
Bro it's better when you see the growth and lead up to After Hours. It's like a double overtime 80 point game to win your 6th championship. Making a classic like that 10 yrs after already being a legend is GOAT
I played this album EVERYDAY for 2 years! The pandemic definitely played into this, the world was shut down this album was dark claustrophobic… man what a time.
This album speaks to me so much. I had the same type of heartbreak and her name was Faith too. It’s crazy how much it relates to me. It’s a top 10 album of all time for me.
Recently watched your trilogy video and it was amazing, this one too! I had never thought of the whole Blinding Lights - Save Your Tears stretch being a dream sequence but it actually makes a lot of sense. Hope you keep doing these breakdowns with more of his albums.
i’m SO happy you mentioned the outro on too late. I listened to the album on acid, and that part stuck with me SO much. Love your videos so much, hope to see you do kissland soon. People need to know how amazing adaptation is 😤
My initial experience with this album is surreal in so many ways that I’ll never forget it. I’ve always been a fan of his music so I was hyped but the way everything changed due to the lockdown happening in my city the week of the drop, the nightmarish chaos was oddly a fitting soundtrack to chaos in a way I’d never seen irl. Obviously I don’t have the space to go into detail but it was almost like being a horror movie fan then finding yourself in a horror movie.
Great video. I always feel like blinding lights is a double entendre speak basically about the girl he longs for and his relationship with his drugs. Especially when he says “You can turn me on with just a touch.” And “I can’t see clearly when your gone” especially after the Faith. But the second verse I feel is completely about him being near death because he says “I’m running out of time cause I can see the sun light up the sky” being the light at the end of the tunnel that people feel they see when their life is almost over
the outro to too late is legit sound design witchcraft. I'm guessing you saw the illangelo clip of him messing around for an hour just getting little details right in that section..
You did a great job on explaining each song. It makes me sad for Abel, but I pray he finds the love of his life someday! Maybe Selena will return. They made a great couple! ❤
Just wow! really amazing work on the breakdown my friend 👏👏 loved both the triolgy and after hours.. I hope this gets tons of more views, so you can get the motivation to touch weeknd's other projects like the recent one dawn fm (since it's gonna be part of the new trilogy in near future with after hours, so it's going to be really interesting how you'll intertwine after hours into dawn fm with your narration and then these two into the futre album), beauty behind madness and kiss land. once again, absolutely terrific work!!! you've earned a sub for sure :)
This video and your channel deserve so much more. The effort put in this video is insane. Though I love the sound and production, I have never paid full attention to the lyrics and the subject of this album. Your analysis has completely elevated the album for me. Thank you for making this one.
This video has the best intro I have ever seen on RU-vid!!! 🤯The editing, the pacing of everything, your script was perfect, and the delivery was amazing. You should get an award for that intro!
Repeat After Me is my favorite song off the album, the organ at the beginning is so beautiful and makes me think of him imagining him and his Ex getting married but as the organ slows and he keeps repeating the line “you don’t love him, you’re just fuckin” is the illusion slowly fading away which leads into the song After Hours. RAM is such an underrated song and I assume it was overlooked by others because it has Interlude in the title in which interludes are usually just short, transitional instrumentals
Loving your channel! Just discovered it and I've been watching all your videos! You should also do a video covering Dawn FM and his upcoming 2024 record when that releases...
yo bruh would love more videos like this. maybe one for dawn fm and The Weeknd’s new album releasing soon? Legitimately watched this whole video through.
about Faith, @29:10 ...those lyrics are a little out of context. Hes talking about himself. He says "im losing my religion everyday. Time hasnt been kind to me. I pray when i look inside the mirror and see someone i love" .. When he looks inside the mirror, he sees himself. but he does not love himself so he never prays. Continuing the idea he has lost his faith
everything is great man, but i think it's important to separate "the weeknd" character and abel himself. You said abel this.., abel that..., but all this story is about his character, not him personally. especially if we talking about his late stuff
I’d argue Trilogy was his best album, then Kiss Land, before I’d mention After Hours but it’s definitely an absolutely great album, just not his magnum opus
feel that but consider that after hours is a culmination of everything he established up until that point. It’s the album that shows him operating at the height of his powers and delivers.
House of Balloons was just the beginning. An epic and legendary one, but still; he has evolved artistically and sound wise. After Hours, is in terms of quality, better than HoB, and I say this as someone, who loves the Trilogy mix tapes.
