Hear Tim's remarkable TURP story and how the procedure helped him void better and live an improved life. He took medications such as tamsulosin and finasteride, which led to unacceptable side effects. He finally had enough of his symptoms after trying medication, and had a TURP. He talks about sexual function or urinary control after the procedure.
The TURP procedure is typically done as OUTPATIENT surgery, and NO hospital stay is needed.
Dr. Lin works at Sunrise Urology in Gilbert, Arizona, USA.

I had TURP done in April, spend 20 hours in the hospital getting flushed with a Folley catheter. The only significant pain that I felt from the entire TURP experience happened when the Folley catheter was removed and that only lasted a minute. I was able to urinate right after the catheter was removed so I didn't have to go home with a catheter. Blood in the urine was gone in 3 days, started walking my usual 7 miles/day 4 days after surgery. Started riding my bike and lifting weights 6 weeks after surgery, per surgeons orders. After 15 years of suffering from BPH, I feel GREAT now... wish I would've had TURP done years ago.

How was the "pain aspect"? Pain with urination, pain with catheterization, flushing and clots, , possible stricture and blockage issues. What's the realistic expectation? These videos only show people who seem to indicate that it's a piece of cake. I suspect it's not.

You’re so right. I had the turp done in a local hospital last week- I stayed the night for observation and monitoring (probably not necessary, but my insurance is paying,) then I was discharged the next day with an antibiotic and a pain reliever that turns your urine orange ,(pyridine,) and I thought the worst was over. Turns out his pain reliever did not help and the pain from the catheter was excruciating. 4 days later a nurse removed the catheter (Thank god,) and when I asked why there wasn’t more adequate pain management I was told we’re looking into state policies(WA,) and catheters aren’t painful to everybody, and I could smell the b.s. I told the nurse I will never get another catheter without adequate pain management!

The catheter is the worst, but they will minimize the effect so they don’t prescribe any narcotic medication. Pain in your future, they won’t tell you the truth about it, and it will take time to heal.

@@ALKRANTZ I've held off. So far. But, I will need to do it. I'm hoping I can make it until June or July so I can go away on a trip in May and not worry. The stream is gettng worse.

This channel has a lot of success stories, and literally no bad ones... hmmm. It is suspicious but encouraging to hear them, yet far more men share terrible post-surgery experiences from their TURP. After all, 50-year technique is still the gold standard? If they CAN REPAIR A HEART WITH A STENT, I have never understood why some doctor hasn't come up with some kind of stent for this prostate issue. I mentioned this to a doctor and he said it has to do with uric acid, but if we all pee in a ceramic toilet, surely they can solve the uric acid/stent issue. My TURP is scheduled for the first week in Sept, and I fear months of post surgery suffering, incontinence and impotence. Five years ago I had the Urolift with little relief, now finally surrendering to the TURP out of sheer desperation, just exhausted thinking about down there every damn day. Been living with BPH for probably 20 years.

@@servingcommonsense4379 Sorry to say I had complications after my TURP and I am now self-cathetarizing every day to try to repair a meatal stricture that I believe was caused when they used a set of van buren dilators in the beginning of my surgery that day. I read the post op report which described a situation where the resectoscope "met with resistance" immediately so they used these dilators and I think they screwed up my urethra... life is not good. Gentlemen, ask about the urethral damage caused by the instrumentation they use before you go forward with your TURP, or for that matter, before you allow them to perform a cystoscopy, which can also damage your urethra permanently.

@@dicey7890 sorry to hear that . Hopefully in time you can get fixed up correctly. This too will pass. I keep telling myself this. . Good luck and thank you for your reply .

@@mrbing70 After an extremely painful cystoscopy due to my meatal stricture closing up, I am still self catheterizing. I am trying to go from a F16 diameter to an F18. The process of getting these surgical supply places to provide the catheter has become an issue, too. Incompetence and apathy abounds.

One hears all kinds of misleading information.. I was informed that erections are definitely not going to happen with TURP operation but holmium Lazer or green light is far superior and minimal risk of not getting a erection . Please someone put me correct

Turp is a living horror show. I strongly discourage it. Your doctor will not tell you the negative effects. Depression, incontinence frequent urination, erectile disfunction.
