My horse died at home at age 32. I had his company for 23 years. A Kentucky Derby winner was slaughtered and eaten in Japan. You don't just sell them repeatedly downhill for a few bucks when you're tired of them. They aren't cars, they are living beings. If you absolutely can't take care of them anymore for some reason, then you owe them the last act of kindness, not sending them to suffer and starve in misery in a slow death in the slaughter pipeline to give you a few dollars.

There should be a law that race tracks MUST contribute financially to a rescue fund, so at least the race horses don't end up in a kill pen. Thank you sir, for your God Send efforts❤🙏❤

When my horse was 25+ my uncle recommended I take him to the sale so I could get a little $ and not have to care for him as a senior. Basically, sell him for slaughter. I couldn’t believe it. The moment I got my horse when I was 13 I knew I was in for the long haul and I would do the act of mercy if I needed to and give him a decent place to rest…and when the time came, I did. Thank you for giving time, effort and money to animals who are capable of bonding and working in tandem with us humans. We were made to take care of the animals, (and each other) and not be cruel and non caring.

You made the right choice...selling for meat money is a decision anyone should make....a friend let her horse go off with a guy in a truck...when he could no longer be ridden...because she couldn't cope with having him put down...we've had our older ones put down at home....never nice....❤

My connection was a lot like yours. Igot my horse when I was 16 and he was 10. He was a former racehorse, and he and I were together until he was 30 years old when he went to Horsey Heaven due to a stroke. Even during my most broke days, I would never consider getting rid of him, and he always was fed well and saw the vet when he needed it, oh yeah, and shoes. He was a member of the family. I still miss him terribly.

Man, I remember betting on "My Lil Dude" sometime within the past year! Thank you so much for your position on protecting these horses from slaughter and the responsibility of the breeder. I have raised, and continue to raise money for rescues that focus on saving those bound for slaughter, and also I've raised money for Thoroughbred aftercare. I just bought into a mare that we claimed in order to have her as a broodmare, and hearing you say, "The person who breeds the horse should be responsible for that horse's life," was just so straightforward and to the point. Thank you for saying that. It will be done on our end.

God bless this man! He is bringing the ugly truth of horse racing to the light. My friend regularly pulls Thoroughbreds from Tampa Bay Downs before they load on the livestock hauler to Mexico. She trains them to be riding horses or some to compete in English show classes….she has retained and rehomed 17 to date. Her first horse was an OTTB and she had a wonderful show career with him. He is now retired.

This needs to be addressed at the source. Many people have faced hard times. I like the idea of breeders taking some responsibility. It costs a lot to properly take care of horses and I think that is driving the kill pen industry. Pet food and people eat horse meat in far oversees cultures. I think the neglect cases are definitely due to lack of funding. A lot of money in breeding horses so I think the breeders and horse enthusiasts should definitely step to the plate.

HP in Tennessee come across a lot of track horses. As a breeder, people can't just dump 24 foals, some to young to be weaned at the auction. Responsibility is reflected in this vlog. There are three bill's in Congress, one of which is simply being added too. Those bill's will stop abuse, stop export for slaughter. Everyone needs to contact their representatives to get passed. The more stories I read and heard about how these beautiful, innocent horses are discarded or killed when injured or can't run fast enough, my feelings changed. Thank you for high lighting this dirty secret………so long as no one talks it can be ignored. The whole racing industry should feel shame about this. There needs to be an industry tax that becomes a fund to save such horses. So many make money out of these creatures and don’t,t forget the betting industry here. Most of us love seeing beautiful horses but we do not have the life style that would enable us to keep one and save it. A small tax on every financial transaction to do with racing seems the best way to me, you make money out of racing in any way, then you pay a tiny tax.

New Zealand standardbreds have been rescued from the slaughter pipeline as well! The basic problem is over breeding. Horses are viewed as a commodity. What is wrong with having highly regulated slaughter facilities like in Europe where you can bring a horse and see that it's humanely put down? Yes, for meat but that's better than a trip to Mexico. Some owners are uncaring or not strong enough emotionally to make the proper decision. And that's not good enough. The horse rescues can't take them all and they can't be all rehomed either. People have to face the face the facts however challenging it is. Slaughter has a place but only if done humanely.
@nyxcin1
@nyxcin1 23 дня назад
I agree. When the 3 American horse slaughter plants were shut down it just made the 'problem" of where these horses lives end farther away. The one in Ft Worth, TX killed them the day they arrived. Now the horses endure days of stress while being transported out of the US to Canada or Mexico but they aren't all killed there. Those countries live ship to Europe so they can be slaughtered closer to where they will be consumed. Also, many, many Americans don't believe people eat horses. I had to educate a doctor who wanted to prescribe me Premarin in the early 2000's when I asked for an alternative. He was completely flabbergasted when I told him about the premarin farms in Canada. How many doctors write scripts for women who also don't understand the ugly reality behind their little pills. Premarin (Pregnant Mare urine) has two victims: mares have to be constantly pregnant and fitted with apparatus that captures their urine and the 'byproduct" of all the foals born, especially colts. One stallion can impregnate a lot of mares, especially using artificial insemination. The rest are sold at auction. Fillies have a better chance to live longer because they can replace mares that can't conceive anymore but eventually they too will end up in the slaughter pipeline. I'm sure there are a few lucky ones who end up, somehow, in good homes but the vast majority will end up in a kill pen.

@@nyxcin1Australia is the biggest exporter of horse meat in the world but we also have a lot of Off The Track incentives, each state has their own programs including some big prize money shows. An OTT horse from WA just stepped up and went clear in Olympic eventing after one of the Aussie horses pulled up lame on the xc course. There's plenty of horses doing OTT classes and open classes in the 3 English sports, but at the same time there are a lot of brain fried and outright dangerous horses in the wrong hands that would be better off being shot. Did these two deserve to be shipped off to Mexico for not being claimed? Absolutely not, they look rather sweet. But for the most part in Aus, if they're a bit older and in those knackers yards, it's probably for a good reason. 🫤

STOP breeding and STOP racing. It's that simple. This man can't take care of all the horses he's produced over the years. How he can sleep at night is a mystery for me .....😢😢😢

Racing is not good for horses, they start them too early for one thing. Most horse sports ruin horses.

If you can't have a horse of your own due to allergies, you could help by sponsoring a horse at a sanctuary.

At the very least the law that makes all horses be sent out of the country for slaughter. That is the VERY LEAST we owe all horses. At least there are humane slaughter laws in America. That being said we have to remember horses do live long past the years they can sport or work and that is probally the most expensive years too. Not everyone can afford 15 or more years of board for example and if it is required then even less people will even think of being involved with horses and that will not serve the horses eirher. No easy answers although my wish more people would include horses in their life not less.
