Tavistock GIDS whistleblowers Sue Evans and Dr David Bell are joined by Prof. Michele Moore, Dr Michael Biggs and Stephanie Davies-Arai to reveal the shocking story of how the care of children was sacrificed to ideology.
When the Cass Report was published in April 2024, it was immediately recognised in the UK and abroad as a game-changing intervention in the debate over the treatment of children who express confusion about their gender. Led by eminent paediatrician Dr Hilary Cass, the systematic review was the most extensive and thoroughgoing assessment ever undertaken of the ‘transgender care’ pathway provided by the Tavistock and Portman Trust’s NHS-funded Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS). Devastatingly, Dr Cass and her team concluded that there was no robust evidence base for the ‘affirmative’ treatment thousands of children and young people have received, including the prescribing of ‘puberty blockers’ and cross-sex hormones.
The exposure of this medical scandal was fought for, long and hard, by many who suffered for their commitment to medical ethics and safeguarding children. The first member of staff to raise concerns about treatment at the Tavistock Clinic was Sue Evans back in 2005, but she, and others after her, experienced serious attempts to silence them within the clinic, across related professional bodies, in universities, publishing, the media and public life.
The Free Speech Union was honoured to bring together an expert panel, including whistleblowere Sue Evans and Dr David Bell from the Tavistock Clinic, who risked their careers and much more to pursue the truth. This is a unique opportunity for us to learn the lessons from the Cass Report and the Tavistock scandal: that open inquiry and freedom of speech are essential to protecting us from pernicious ideas.
About the Speakers
Sue Evans was a state registered nurse and psychiatric nurse and has worked in many areas of mental health. She was a Senior Clinical Lecturer at the Tavistock Clinic and during her employment there, she spent a period of years working in the Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS).
Dr Michael Biggs was the first to discover the experiment with puberty blockers conducted by GIDS and the first to publish its unfavourable results. His research on endocrinological interventions on children and adolescents who identify as transgender has been published in Archives of Sexual Behavior, Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, Journal of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Journal of Sexual Medicine, and in two edited volumes: Inventing Transgender Children and Young People and Sex and Gender: A Contemporary Reader. He acted as an expert witness in the case of Keira Bell and Mrs A. versus Tavistock NHS Trust (2020) at the High Court of England and Wales, for a case in the Australian Family Court, and for Dekker et al. v. Weida et al. in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. He is Associate Professor of Sociology and Fellow of St Cross College, University of Oxford.
Dr David Bell is a past president of the British Psychoanalytic Society and worked at the Tavistock Clinic as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst for more than 25 years. In his role as Staff Governor, David was approached by clinicians who were working or had worked within GIDS, raising very serious concerns about its approach and in 2018 he wrote a report to convey these concerns to Tavistock management but they responded by instituting proceedings against him. Dr Bell’s persistence in working alongside other whistleblowers to force a change in approach, eventually led to the Cass Review. He is also a leading psychiatric expert in immigration/human rights.
Stephanie Davies-Arai is the founder and director of Transgender Trend, the leading UK organisation calling for evidence-based healthcare for gender dysphoric children and young people as well as fact-based teaching in schools. Stephanie was an intervener in the High Court in support of Keira Bell and Mrs A, who brought a landmark case against GIDS in a claim that under-18s are not old enough to consent to treatment with puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
Professor Michele Moore has worked internationally for more than 30 years, building research-led expertise to support inclusive education and communities. She is the co-editor, with Heather Brunskell-Evans, of two books which first raised concerns about gender ideology and medicine that are at the heart of the Cass Review: Transgender Children and Young People: Born in Your Own Body which the Tavistock wanted banned from its library, followed by Inventing Transgender Children and Young People which the Tavistock tried to block with threatened legal action. Because of the concerns she raises about the treatment of children experiencing gender confusion, she has been the target of vicious campaigns by activists for the last ten years.

They are LYING to you. Here is the REAL TRUTH about Gay and Transgenderism: It is NOT about chromosomes (the XX or the XY) or the BODY, it is about the STRUCTURE of the human brain. A Doctor with a Ph.D. in Genetics and his team did research on the STRUCTURE of the human brain. They studied the brain of straight women and straight men, gay women, and gay men, as well as transgendered women and transgendered men. What they found is this, the STRUCTURE of the brain between a male and a female is as different from each other as night is from the day. They also found that there are two distinct and separate areas of the brain that deal with sexuality and gender. They found that the area for sexual orientation in gay men is STRUCTURED the same as in straight women, NOT straight men, and in gay women, that area is STRUCTURED the same as in straight men, NOT straight women. Likewise, the center in the brain that deals with gender identity is the same, in transgender women (male to a female) it is STRUCTURED the same as in cis-women, (born and identify as female) NOT cis-men, (born and identify as male), and in transgender men, (female to male) it is STRUCTURED the same as in cis-men, NOT cis-women. It has been STRUCTURED this way since BEFORE birth. Two other teams in different parts of the world doing the same study all independent of each other found the exact same results. When a baby is first formed in the womb it is formed 100% female. Then after a few weeks, a signal from the father's genes tells the baby's body, the body only, to change and become male. The baby goes on for a few more weeks this way until it can produce a massive amount of the male hormone testosterone, which then tells the brain to change into the male pattern, such a massive amount will never be seen in that Child's life again except at the onset of puberty. If for some reason that baby does not get that massive dose of testosterone in the womb then the brain, or parts of it, continues to develop in the female pattern. Or in the case of gay women or Trans men, at some time in the mother's pregnancy that baby received a small dose of testosterone at the wrong time, either the mother ingested it somehow or her body produced it or the baby’s own body produced it all of which can and have happened. When a baby is being formed in the womb, any variation, even in the slightest, of the chemicals can cause birth defects. You have seen these birth defects in babies being born all the time, some born blind, or deaf, born with missing limbs, or heart problems, or even with a spine outside of the body, and many, many others. So why is it so hard for the right to believe that a person’s BRAIN can be STRUCTURED in the opposite way from what their bodies say they should be? You can believe in all other birth defects so why not this? I will use transgender women for this example, even though the body is male she likes all the same things a cis-gender woman likes, her emotional likes, wants and needs are the same as any woman's, and the way she sees the world is the same. Her interactions are the same, everything about her is the same as any cis-gender woman except the body. Sexual characteristics (the body) are set by the genes (the XX or the XY) but Gender is set by the STRUCTURE of the BRAIN, this has been proven through sound scientific study. Gender is how one see themselves and their place in the world and how they interact with it. If your body is set one way and your brain the other it causes a disharmony of mind and body (gender dysphoria) it is not now or ever has been a DELUSION or a PERVERSION or a MENTAL ILLNESS. When someone is going through life with this Dysphoria their life is a living hell, when people tell them that they can't be WHO they are inside because that person is uncomfortable with it then you are forcing the trans person to live in severe PAIN, Anxiety, and Depression, a PAIN that having your arms and legs cut off with a dull rusty hacksaw without any anesthetics seem like nothing in comparison, a pain that kills, LITERALLY KILLS. Think of everything you like and want as a man or a woman, everything that makes you, you, and then think how you would feel if you were constantly told that you can't have it, or be it, or do the things you love, because you are the opposite of who and what you are now, that you must bury everything that makes you, you because other people don't like it because it makes them uncomfortable, If constantly you were told that you were evil and dammed because you are who you are, denied a job, or a home, insulted, belittled, assaulted and even targeted to be KILLED just because you exist, how would you feel? Women, think how would you feel if you were forced to live, think, told to feel like and be a man, And told that you MUST do what men do, how men do it, see things the way men see them in order to be a man and you MUST be a man and that something is wrong with you if you don’t? How would you handle that? Men, think how you would feel if you were forced to live, think, feel, and be a woman? Told that you MUST do what women do, how women do it, see things the way women see them in order to be a woman and you MUST be a woman and that something is wrong with you if you don’t? How would you handle that? A trans woman does NOT fit, in a man’s social circle the same way a man does and yet they are expected to if they do not go through transition, they are expected to think, feel, and act just like any cis-gender man in that circle, but they can’t because their brain is STRUCTURED differently, so they are insulted, belittled beat on ridiculed, and humiliated by these men, constantly, all because their brain is STRUCTURED the same way a cis-gender woman’s brain is STRUCTURED. With their brain being STRUCTURED that way they would fit into a woman’s social circle but with their bodies being male, again they don’t fit in and they are excluded. They want to wear the same outfits the women wear because their brains tell them they should be just like them. Everything inside them SCREAMS that they are just like the people who are of the opposite gender and yet they are NOT allowed to be because other people are uncomfortable with them doing so, so they are FORCED to live in severe PAIN, anxiety, and depression. Trans people just want to be accepted for who they are, they want and are deserving of the very same rights as everyone else, no more and NO LESS. Here is the truth about the road to transition: First, the person MUST go to therapy, no therapy no transition, they will meet with a therapist who has knowledge and experience with transgender people. During this time they will begin social transitioning, social transitioning is nothing more than changing one's name and pronouns, and appearance such as hairstyle and clothing. Then after a number of sessions with the therapist (usually about a year) if the Dysphoria continues, and depending on the age of the person they may be given puberty blockers, (which are reversible). Then after many more sessions with the therapist and again if the Dysphoria continues they may be given hormones, it is these that have irreversible effects. Last: when they reach the age of CONSENT (CONSENT, NOT A KID, NO ONE IS DOING SURGERY ON KIDS) and if the Dysphoria continues, and if they have lived in the gender of their choice for a MINIMUM of 1 full year, and have letters from two therapists with one having a P.HD in psychology with both therapists having seen the person over a period of time they may get a consult from the surgeon, and there is usually a long waiting list for that, after the consult if the surgeon agrees then you get on the long waiting list for the surgery. IF ANYONE TELLS YOU DIFFERENTLY FROM THIS THEY ARE LYING TO YOU. Definition of a woman: How you define a woman is by how she sees herself, a woman is one who sees herself as one in mind and soul. If a person sees themselves as a woman, thinks as a woman, acts as a woman, and lives as a woman, then what is the harm to treat and respect her as one? If you cannot have compassion for another human being then how can you ask others to have compassion for you? Show compassion, empathy, and respect by calling them the name they prefer and with the pronouns they prefer. It does NOT harm you to do so but it does great harm to them when you don’t. Definition of a Man: How you define a man is by how he sees himself, a man is one who sees himself as one in mind and soul. If a person sees themselves as a man, thinks as a man, acts as a man, and lives as a man, then what is the harm to treat and respect him as one? If you cannot have compassion for another human being then how can you ask others to have compassion for you? Show compassion, empathy, and respect by calling them the name they prefer and with the pronouns they prefer. It does NOT harm you to do so but it does great harm to them when you don’t. Some of you reject the LGBTQ community because you have a need to feel morally superior to others, “pull the beam out of your own eyes before you try to pull the mote out of another’s”. Some of you reject the LGBTQ community because you don’t understand it and it fills you with fear, fear of something that is different from what you are used to, different from YOU, either one goes forward or one stagnates and dies, you limit your thinking and can’t or won’t learn, grow, and adapt. Some of you reject the LGBTQ community because you just want to hate and hurt others, it gives you a sick thrill, and you use the LGBTQ as an excuse to do so. But ALL of you who do these are small, weak, insecure, monumentally stupid, and utterly pathetic excuses of human beings.

Interesting discussion towards the end about whether this subject is out in the open and being discussed more widely since the Cass review. I live overseas and recently returned home to spend time with my parents who get all of their news from the BBC. Depressingly, they had not heard of the Cass review (presumably as it got so little airtime). Similarly, it's seen as a minority issue, despite the huge implications it has for women, LGB people, children and wider society. What a fantastic discussion. Huge thanks to the very brave people on the panel.

A Public Enquiry will not help I am afraid. Public Enquiries are always controlled by those at the highest levels of power. Truth is never found that way. Things can only change by the realisation by enough individual people, that society is being deliberately corrupted and degraded. The horrors of what is being done to children through the doctrine of 'gender affirming care', are a part of that, but the deliberate degrading of the whole of society and culture goes much wider than that as well.

Some real heroism on show here, thank you everyone. I work in social care & academia and it has been terrifying and upsetting to see it taking hold. I have lost close relationships to this issue. @@unitysprings3631That's because it is a claim without any proof as yet. It's also a grossly unfair and ignorant way of understanding suicide which has multiple factors. In the UK every under 18 suicide is investigated fully. For this reason we know gender dysphoria has a thankfully very low suicide rate. It would be very surprising given how few suicides we had before affirmative care and how few Finland and Sweden had after rolling it back to find this to be true. The original Dutch protocol study had 2 deaths out of 70. A study that cherry picked patients and claimed lower suicidality for affirmative care had 2 suicides out of 314. These are astronomical rates of suicide. The "dead kid or trans kid" is an incredibly irresponsible idea spread by the trans community. We know suicide is socially contagious. The fact they spread these ideas with no good evidence is disgusting as it may well lead to more suicides than if kids were presented with the truth. Oh and the person who mentioned this is an alcoholic who accused literally everyone of being transphobic. He will never ever respond.

No one in their right mind thinks that makes sense except that trans is a socio-cultural identity. The Q is clearly boring as fuck heterosexuals with no personality. I don't know about you but I'm guessing like me you couldn't dilute your personality down to a label. Unfortunately some young ppl today are just that shallow and superficial. If you've not read the Wpath files then I highly highly recommend it. You can also look up the author Mia Hughes in Genspect videos where they go through similar medical scandals. All the same markers are there. It's fascinating in a macabre way. BTW if evidence came out that the cides were linked I'd be open to it. But the "community" thrives on shirt term claims that they never follow up on. They still dine out on the deaths of trans ppl at the hands of "cis-het" hatred even after it's been debunked. I regularly tell ppl what Wpath actually says and they're horrified, call me a liar and then continue believing. There's a woman, Diane Ehrensaft, part of Wpath who was literally involved in the Satanic Panic. They mentioned it briefly here and I can't lol but the Wpath chapter on U-nux is sourced by one of the most horrible things on the internet today. It's the biggest medical scandal of our generation.

27:33 this entire thing is being scaffolded by the fear that middle aged people have of not wanting recreate the problems we saw in the 80s regarding homosexuality. i was the same at first. it’s like we had learnt our lesson. once this is explained we will see a change i’m certain of it. also, isn’t GIDS or “jids” such a revolting sounding acronym. it’s like interfering with the word ‘kids’.

Whilst the subjects are very different the suppression of public debate, the restriction on funding and publishing of research, and the religious fervour of the acolytes is mirrored in the Net Zero/ Climate change problem.

This is interesting, however, do we have a list of detransitioners? I am asking genuinely because this is always the biteback from TRAs. I am only aware of Keira Bell. I have never heard of a single other complainant or detransitioner. I would like to cite numbers or evidence for how we know that Tavi actually did cause harm to children. If anyone knows, please direct me

I think the shame is unlikely to result in many coming forward. I tend to focus on things like the numbers of same-sex attracted or autistic. Or just the fact at the Tavistock the mental health outcomes were negative. The "critique" out of Yale is also useful. They complained that it focused too much on helping improve mental health. They made the rather amazing admission that affirmative care has nothing to do with helping alleviate gender dysphoria. They know it's aesthetic. If there is anything I find TRAs get really confounded by it's feeding back to them what members of Wpath actually say. They get awfully stuck when they call you a liar because they are clearly appalled by this and then you bring out the proof.

there is a reason JK Rowling has been at the forefront of this: she has f*ck-you-money, and she, her family, her kids and loved ones are not dependent upon anyone else to have a safe roof over their heads. I hate that the world is like this, that people can be threatened to silence, but it is what it is. It makes the truth-sayes truly brave people ❤

Often times, but sometimes your comment may just be 'hidden'. At the top of the comments section click "sort by" & check in both "Top Comments" & "newest first" if you can't find it in either of the two listing...you were censored.

David's digression into the politics of Israel-Palestine really didn't help. But since he's raised the objection, let me respond. Israel is the only territory on Earth claimed by Jews who want to have a Jewish-majority homeland. They want a Jewish-majority homeland because if they were a minority in their homeland they couldn't democratically prevent the introduction of antisemitic legislation and couldn't bring much pressure to bear on law courts and security agencies who discriminated against them. The homeland they claimed in 1948 was, per the UN's 1947 partition plan, a speck of land just 14,100 sq kms in area. Only 4,100 sq kms of that area was deemed habitable. Initially, 500,000 Jews would share that land almost equally with 480,000 non-Jews. So the amount of habitable land claimed just by Jews to be their homeland was just 2,050 sq kms. I hope David can be relied on to do his own research and work out how many times that amount of land would fit into the land area claimed by European Christians who wanted to increase their resource base by planting a flag in New Zealand, Australia, and every country in the Americas. The answer is several thousand times. Then David should research the combined land area of all the Muslim-ruled countries from Bangladesh in the east, via Pakistan and Afghanistan, all the way to Mauritania and Algeria in the west. About 45 per cent of Israel's Jewish population are Mizrahi and Sephardi, Jews from these lands who were forced to leave places like Baghdad and Cairo and cannot safely return. Israel has a right to exist and an obligation to defend its people from attack. People who argue the Israeli counter attack in Gaza is disproportionate need to examine why they think that but are willing to accept the US and its allies killing up to 3 million Japanese in response to an attack on Pearl Harbour which killed 2,400 US citizens.
