Here's an ITV docu from 2003 about the kids from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory and what became of them in adulthood. This is not the docu that's included on DVD and Bluray versions of the film.
This docu is more substantial than the typical ATWF episode. I was quite surprised by it and regretted not taping it at the time. I was pleased to got hold of a copy many years later, so here it is.

There are 5 actors still living: Shin Hamano who played the candy store owner in Japan and 4 Oompa Loompas: Rusty Goffe and Albert Wilkinson, Rudy Borgstaller and Pepe Poupee (the only female oompa loompa) are possibly still living as it says 'is' an actor/actress known for the film. The unknown actress who played the lady who found Veruca Salt's golden ticket might still be living, she was very young back then. :)

I have adored and enjoyed the books of Roald Dahl since childhood. But the man was an antisemetic, natzi sympathizer, racist. I have decided to seperate the art from the artist and continue to enjoy the stories I loved years ago. I don't think i'll read them to my own child though. And I have no respect for any person on earth who hold such disgusting beliefs and values. Fuck him and Fuck anyone else who thinks like him.

The way they joked around with eachother as they shared their stories and carried the "bit more powder" bit into their recreation was heart warming ...I imagine any vertically challenged person not named Peter Dinklage really would be happy just to get a role in the post-Dinklage climate. Dude's screwed over the people he claims to represent. Six roles lost in Snow White! Imagine if they decided to do a large scale remake of The Wizard of Oz! It would just be Peter and a bunch of average-height people or Peter as the only adult amongst a bunch of not-quite-elf children.

The appearances of dwarfs are closely linked to the description of supernatural fairies, leprechauns, hobbits, gnomes, goblins, elves, vamana and pygmies, and thus dwarf people gives every movie a natural otherworldly appearance which is interesting to watch, especially for kids. I established a correspondence with film director Mel Stuart later in his life. I was looking for a documentary that he'd worked on in the 1970s called Life Goes to the Movies. He actually burned DVDs of the entire documentary at no cost to me and sent a nice note along with the DVDs (there were 3 of them, which I still have and cherish). I think he was flattered that anyone would remember him 35 or so years later. What a guy. We stayed in touch and he reminisced a bit about the Wonka experience. It was one of the highlights of his career.

Julie Dawn Cole’s (Veruca Salt’s) performance of I Want It All/Give it to Me is one of the most magnetic musical performances in film history. When you watch it again, notice how she just commands the scene flawlessly from beginning to end, at a time when scenes weren’t just 2 sec cuts and were more like stage performaces. My single favorite scene in the movie.

@random_account2160
@random_account2160 4 месяца назад
The 2005 Johnny Depp version isn’t a remake, it’s another adaptation of the BOOK, just like the 1971 version, it’s ALSO an adaptation. A lot of people forget to remember both versions of the film were based of the 1964 book…
@tammiepage6489
@tammiepage6489 2 месяца назад
The remakes is for the new generation a lot of these kids are not gonna watch this one. In fact, a lot of the kids of this generation like actually liked the Johnny Depp version better cause I know some kids that were born later in the 2000s or whatever liked that like in 2005 and that they were born and they were really like the Johnny Depp one. They don’t like this version so my point is the remakes of for the newer generation a lot of the kids cause this movie is gonna eventually fade as generations grow. This movie is going to fade. Overtime is sad to say, but not all kids nowadays are gonna watch this version so you don’t sit there say no need for me remix who said you have to watch it and the giant version is not really remake because that one’s called Charlie and the chocolate factory so that was never supposed to be remake at all, but again everybody has different taste and is more for another generation. They make stuff like that for newer generations and there’s nothing wrong with that.

They turned out to be such great people. No bitter memories or regrets. It's wonderful that their acting experience and brief time in the spotlight did not blight their lives as has happened to many child performers. I always loved this story - the destitute but wholesome child is tested and rewarded for his patience and honesty, while the more privileged yet self-centered children are set aside. In real life the underprivileged tend to remain so and are not singled out for their merits.

bruh it's actually good that we don't do that anymore. He may have admitted he was annoying, but back then adults could literally abuse children and that was considered socially acceptable. Doing this kind of stuff, like for example, beating your child over something small and mundane could heavily impact the child and even lead to trauma. So basically you are glorifying and romanticizing the days parents could say and do psychologically damaging things to their own children. Disgusting.

Denise Nickerson had the most acting experience of all the children at the time when the film was made. Among other roles, she had played a character on Dark Shadows, a little girl named Amy Jennings whose older brother was a werewolf. She was also in the running for the part of Regan in "The Exorcist", but her parents were understandably appalled and quickly withdrew her from the project. The latest show that I can recall seeing her in was a 1974 Brady Bunch episode in which she played a girl named Pamela whom Peter Brady asked out on a date.

I also remember Denise on the PBS children's show "The Electric Company." She played Allison, a member of the Short Circus from 1972-73.

to anyone unfamiliar with _D.S._, "whose older brother was a werewolf" might seem a bit strange. then there's the rest of us.

Is that the director talking about how “we” came up with WW’s walk out and flip entrance? Gene told it differently in interviews. He said he thought up the entire entrance scene, and was told “why?”. He said from the start people do not know if they can trust him. The director said “So if thats not how we do it you won’t do the picture?”. Gene: “Yes”.

Sad. I just learned Denise Nickerson passed away while watching this today Sept, 3rd 2019. I looked her up on Wikipedia and learned she died about a month ago. God bless her and her family.
